Should we continue to pay benefit to this person

on the bacon is making her fat front - its not the bacon per se its the way she cooks it

if you toast your bread, grill your bacon , and oven cook your sausages and mushrooms to go with your beans and an egg fried in a tiny bit of oil a breakfast like that can be fairly healthy (you can even make wedge chips in the oven with next to no oil) if a little lacking in greenery

on the otherhand if you fry all the main ingredients including the bread in a truckload of lard , then they are going to make you as fat as a hippo

On the whole i wouldn't cut off her benefits but i'd make her claim UB not DLA because 'too fat to work' is rubbish - if she can't get arround to well she may be too fat for some jobs , but theres plenty of jobs you can still do (as matt mentioned earlier)

one last word of advice - steve if you are going to shoot her in the face, i recomend a harpoon ;)

Bacon is saturated with fat. It doesn't matter how it's cooked, fried, grilled, microwaved, it still has way too high a fat content.

don't care I love bacon, with sausages, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes, hash browns. toast, and a nice strong cup of tea.
the one and only breakfast in the world. I thought this was a photo forum.

yeah but its good fat - better to eat bacon than some greasy nasty ready meal. Anyway she's not fat because she eats bacon , she's fat because she eats a mountain of unhealthy crap and doesnt take any exercise

As a way to make a point, that has to be one of the worst I've seen in a long while.
Think of something that fits your point, make it up from thin air, then state it as fact until asked, brilliant, just brilliant. Sure fire way to ensure no one takes your views on the given subject seriously.
My first thought when reading 'Person A' was this can't be for real the guy must have a 6 figure bank balance unless he's an idiot and thus thought that 'Person B' would also be a product of fantasy too.

There are some views in this thread that are at both extremes of the discussion, mine would be somewhere in the middle, people who need help (financial/medical etc) should get that help, those that don't need it shouldn't. If you're capable of providing for yourself then that's what you should, or at least be trying to, do.

I've stated absolutely nothing as fact, how on earth did you make that inference? Is there a secret club within TP where members are given the power of inference?

OK, I'll make it really really simple so hopefully you won't draw any more silly conclusions........ Any benefits you receive (excluding disability) should take into account the amount that you've contributed to the "pot", to spell it out a little more for you, if you've contributed nothing then you get a bare minimum to pay for essentials, if you've contributed a lot then you get a little more back but again, only for a short period of time.

in fact such a good English breakfast sets you up for the rest of the day.

Maybe a tabloid newspaper isn't the best place to get information to make a choice around anyone"s benefit claim

I might agree. ..happy to.
But it would appear she's gladly accepted the money they offered.

Not any better I'd say, both will be high in saturated fats and not enough unsaturated fats to do her any good.

Do you mind if I ask how you received that much per month?
From memory I was getting maximum DLA (both parts) long term terminal incapacity pay, maximum tac credit including child care, council tax discount, housing benefit, child allowance, travel money to hospital. My wife was also getting JSA (contribution based?). I also had free building work done but I think that was from a fund controlled my local council. I also paid no tax, had free boiler upgrade.

Luckily I survived and my wife is working. I guess it all worked out cheaper then letting me bed block in hospital.

As some tory said, disabled people on incapacity should be allowed to work at a lower rate as the government is giving them £130/ week. I know I'd have liked to have worked as it is really hard to get a job once you are better.

I'm not doubting that for one minute but let's face it, people who become obese to the point that their mobility is impacted aren't likely to be doing options 2 or 3 are they?
Really? I'd have thought they would be unlikely to be doing 1 or 3, and highly likely to be eating 2. Diet 2, albeit in smaller quantities, was designed to be what most people eat every day. Anyone eating diet 1 would really struggle NOT to lose weight.

If you are eating a balanced diet, incorporating all the different food groups in the right proportions, it's the quantity you eat that will make you add/lose weight.
Although only n=1, the experiment above strongly suggests that isn't the case = it's just as much down to the type of calories you eat as to the quantity. I personally suspect the quality of those calories could play a part for some people, but type of calories is the biggest influence, then quantity, then perhaps quality.

Way too high a fat content for what?

If you eat exclusively bacon for a month, I guarantee you will lose weight.

They didn't, they made an investment. A different thing.

Mmmmm it wasn't so much an investment as a 'bail them out or the economy is screwed"

If it was an investment, how come 6 years later we are still told how much the country struggles with debt?

I can never understand why some people regard accepting money from a tabloid as a good idea. She must have known it wouldn't end well for her

Indeed, must be the only time in history a company received an investment in the 10's of billions that prompted 35,000 people to lose their jobs!! FFS

They received shares in return for the bail out, so it is an investment.
Those shares have increased in value, and the government have started selling them,so the government have made money.

So why are we still in debt then? It was no sort of investment no matter how you dress it up

It's made huge progress to reduce the debt, I believe further Tory governments will get us into a budget surplus.

The investment value hasn't gone up sufficiently to make it worth selling.

errr wharts made huge progress to reduce the debt? The shareholding we hold as a result of bailing the banks out hasn't.

I'm assuming you realise that when the decision to bail the banks out was taken you know it was because they economy would have lasted about another week if it wasn't done. Not because RBS et al looked like they would provide great returns on that cash?

How? It bought shares in RBS which it can sell to whom it sees fit whenever it wants. A bailout is a gift of funds without any ownership being taken.

errr.......so it wasn't a bailout, and everythings fine then? I really struggle to believe even you see it as anything other then what it was

Facts are inconvenient for you?

So few words, so much irony

It's a long term investment, it was deemed the company could recover from where it was and grow. As it slowly is.

Ok then it wasn't a bailout and you regard any investment where you pay far more interest then you'll ever see as a return as worthwhile. Jeez. You really need to look at some recent history. Remind me what bank you work for?

I don't think anyone's suggesting workhouses but the system does need to be overhauled.

I mean how is it fair that some people are working their plums off 40+ hours a week for £6.50 per hour and still struggle to make ends meet and pay tax which goes to those who have made conscious choices to avoid working (one way or another) and have a nice comfortable lifestyle granted to them for doing nothing more than sitting on their arse all day?

Exactly, and don't forget the free housing as well. many can't afford to buy their own homes and usually a tenancy is an assured shorthold which gives the landlord power to terminate the tenancy at the end of the period should he/she choose to do so

She has chosen not to do anything about her condition refuses advice or surgery to stay on benifits. It's not the welfare state at fault, but abuse of the system. An unemployed person is required to show that they are actively seeking paid employment or loose their benifits, and the same rule should apply here - lose weight and get back into employment or lose your benifits

Lose. The most misspelt word on the internet!

Steve.

Whilst there is not full employment, I think it's pointless worrying too much about people who don't want to work, especially as they are a very small minority of the jobless total.

There are still 2,000,000+ people who could do with a job. Better to concentrate energies on creating extra jobs for them.

Steve.

Taking the article with a pinch (block) of salt..... this guy should be told to jog on and his benefits stopped!

I used to be a very keen cricketer, I would have loved to have spent hours a day training/practicing for my games on a weekend but that horrible thing called "work" seriously interfered with it.

This work-shy <insert word that sounds like 'anchor'> needs to get himself a job and fit his exercise regime in with it like the vast majority of people do.

Regardless of how much you eat or how it's cooked?
Yes, more or less regardless of how much you eat or how it's cooked - in lard, tallow, butter or ghee would be best, as it would further increase the satiety.

I should say that is within reason. The reason weight loss would happen is that fat is metabolised totally differently in the body, and has a different metabolic effect. It is also much more satiating, being both higher calorie (than protein or sugar) as well as suppressing insulin and thereby allowing your body to access stored fat as an energy source. Therefore it's actually extremely difficult to eat huge amounts of only fat and protein. If someone was to force themselves to eat huge amounts, they would increase weight, but I believe they would be forcing themselves. (Look at the video link I posted above - the guy ate DOUBLE quantities of fat/protein for three weeks and gained only 1.3kg, whereas he should (by calorie formula) have gained 7kg. Meanwhile despite the weight gain his waist measurement decreased (i.e. the excess calories were not stored as the usual abdominal fat).

It's counter-intuitive, but only because we've had "calories in / calories out" repeated over and over. Actual experimental evidence proves that not to be the case, and the macronutrient composition strongly drives how food is metabolised and the effect it has.

what I was told whenI last signed on. I was to actively seek work and to keep a diary. I must take any employment of which I am capable of doing and not consider that any job is too boring or "below me". If it was deemed that I was not putting sufficient effort into finding employment my award could be suspended.

And as there seems to be opinions that the welfare state should support peoples lifestyles may I apply for a Nikon 1DX and 400mm f2.8. Brand new, no grey imports please

When my son was on JSA a couple of years ago, he was being told to apply for jobs in Portsmouth when we live on the Isle of Wight. The boat travel would cost more than he would have got paid but the Job Centre staff didn't care about that. They see a job as a way to get the unemployment figures lower, not as a means to earn money!
