Should I wait?

I've been waiting since Jan. for this rumour to come to live!

Depends if you can wait for as long as it takes.......... If I hadn't already got one and was wanting one, I would only wait as long as December 1st to find out if there is a new one. (rumours say that there is an anouncement due on that date.) If I heard nothing by then, i would just take the leap and enjoy the lens.:)

Kev.

Hi,I don't know about your side of the water but over here secondhand are'nt much cheaper so for a few more $ i'd get a nice sparkly new 1.

Don't wait, because if you do you'll be waiting forever because there is always something new and better just round the corner. Go for it now.

thing is how long do you wait for new kit to come out?
there is new dslr's every 6-12 months lens not quite as often
but you have to just say enough is enough i need it now......

Hows the bidding going dude  ?

Still have the high bid with a few days left. I asked the seller if he'd end early as I was eager to get it. lol. He said no.

Honestly, the range I'm in right now is above what they are going for, so I didn't see the harm in asking. :D

Don't get caught up in it too much and bid more than you had planned. You could easily get up to the new price if it gets silly. Stop bidding now and bid at the last 20 seconds....

Kev.

I have bid as high as I would be willing to go... If it gets over that, I'll just bid on another one. :D Still nervous. lol
... And you'll lose that one too.

The best eBay tactic is to decide how much you want to bid, and then make that bid with 10 seconds to go. That leaves no time for someone else to decide that they could perhaps stretch to the extra £5 or the extra £50 or whatever. If you declare your hand too early, you're just inviting someone to come along and outbid you.

Hope you win it Ian:thumbs: i'm gettin nervous for ya
keep us informed;)

Unlucky mate, but there's plenty more out there. But when you think you're gonna win it and some ****hole pipps you in the last seconds its a :bang:
Good luck in the quest for the best:thumbs:

A little update... Instead of splurging for the Nikon, I took a more practical approach and got the 70-200 2.8 Tamron instead. Read great reviews (will let you know how it is) and it's a LOT cheaper. I have the 17-50mm 2.8 Tamron and absolutely love it, so thought I'd give Tamron all my money. Plus, I can put the money I saved towards something else...

Good choice, let us know how you get on with it, as I fancy one of these for my Canon.

I use my 70-20 f2.8 Tamron on my 40d and its lovely. Focus is maybe not as good as it would be with the Canon or Nikon versions, however its all half the price too!
I got mine for a bargin £350 Second Hand. No box but the lens looks new :)

I'm sure you'll be happy with the Tamron Ian, and still have a pocketful of Benji's to spend on more gear:thumbs:

Ok. Got the lens today... Very fast shipment. Ordered at 4pm yesterday, got it at 11am today. Sweet!

Initial tests vary. I slapped on an SB-600 for a few test shots and they were very sharp. I then tested in un-ideal conditions this afternoon. I was only getting 1/40 shutter speeds even with bumping up to ISO 400, so didn't get very sharp images there. I will test again and post some images when I do a thorough test in ideal conditions.

Isn't there a rule about telephoto's? You need to have a shutter speed of at least twice your focal length or something? So I'm at 200mm which means I'll need at least 1/400 shutter speed? I know it's possible with slower speeds, but I think I read this "rule" somewhere.

I think it's a shutter speed equal to your effective focal length - so at 200mm on a FF D3/D700 then 1/200, on a DX D300 then it would be 1/300 or thereabouts....

Ok, now for some test shots. Again, these weren't taken in favorable conditions, but oh well. I was pleased with the results for a trial run anyway. lol

They are only small images, but this version of one of yours doesnt look too bad, with a little sharpening.

I hope you don't mind me showing you the example. I will happily delete if you wish.

Unless you have extremely steady hands, you will find it very hard to get sharp photos at 1/40 200mm. The tinest movement can blur the whole photo at this focal length.

I don't mind a bit Kev. :)

And Alex, I don't have the steadiest of hands. I'm aware of camera shake at that focal length, etc, I'm just hyped about the new lens hoping it would be sharp at anytime at any shutter speed! lol. Here's to hoping. :D

I'm going to give it a full test when we get some sun around here. Been dreary lately.

I'm the same - I have a very steady hand, but cannot take a pic at less than 1/125 for toffee!!!

Whack it on a tripod, use the self timer or a remote and see if that helps, or use a flash - I have found that the flash helps with sharpness... Also try a different posture or way of holding/supporting the camera/body combination.

It's not too much of a problem for me, I just work around it - so long as it's me and not my kit then I'm happy!!! :D
