Shooting at Florida School

I read earlier that this is the 29th mass shooting in 2018 .... , if that is true, we are only 45 days into 2018... .

Watched a clip of the Senator for that area saying that this was the 19th school shooting this year and blaming inaction by legislators for the shootings. I'm afraid these shootings are so common that they have lost the ability to shock. I read about another one, shake my head and that's it.

It’s devestatingly sad.

What’s even sadder though is the US has decided that this is an acceptable price to pay for guns & this one & the next will make f*** all difference

19 year old with an AR15 and several magazines. Managed to escape by merging with the students fleeing, but was arrested an hour later.

Of course thats nothign to do with the $30m that came from the NRA into his election fund, that may have come through russian sources.

Just going to keep on getting worse with.people buying more guns to escalate the arms race then you also have the manufacturers coming out with insane assault rifle stuff for home use.

Around 7,000 US troops have been killed in Afghanistan and Iraq since 2001.

An even scarier stat is that more American Civillians have died as a result of gun violence since 1990 then American servicemen have died on the battlefield of every war that country had ever fought,

But, it makes no difference

I used to think the whole situation would get sorted by now a few years back, but the more this comedy goes on the more I thing it will become more entrenched.
I think in a few years open carry will just become common place.

How long will it be before this stops being news and it is just an accepted part of American culture that a number of dead children each year is necessary to ensure the freedoms of the wider population?

Civilised western society my arse.

Gun laws in the "Wild West", were actually more restrictive than they are nowadays.

The 1881 gunfight in Tombstone, Ariz. was actually sparked by Wyatt Earp's attempts to enforce gun control in the town. “It is hereby declared unlawful to carry in the hand or upon the person or otherwise any deadly weapon within the limits of said city of Tombstone, without first obtaining a permit in writing.”

As long as the crazy NRA lot are about, it will always happen and nothing will stop them.

I read somewhere schools are seriously considering arming teachers.
you just couldn't make this s*** up.

Football coach Aaron Feis was seriously injured as he tried to protect the students, reports say he put himself in the way of the shooter to save students

what a nutter I hope he has good health insurance.

There was an article recently about someone who got shot by a crazy gunman 9in Vegas I think). They were virtually bankrupted because their health/employer funding dried up before they were able to go back to work.
What sort of crazy society allows innocent victims to be put in that financial situation.
Then again I suppose if it's now a daily/weekly occurrence it would bankrupt any Company/Govt that tried to fund loss of earnings or cost of medical insurance in those circumstances.

Keeps the population down a bit I suppose, selection is a bit random though. Devastating for those involved.

I was absolutely staggered and horrified to read some of the after accounts of the victims of the Las Vegas shooting. Many of the people, as you correctly point out Matt, were not covered by insurance (apparently the insurance companies have acted in a quite vile manner after that tragic event), which related to medical care, unemployment etc.
There was one lady, a quadriplegic, who only blamed the shooter - Paddock - for her situation, she didn't blame the politicians, and she didn't have a problem with the gun companies.
I personally do not think that there will ever be a tragedy that is shocking enough to change anything.

Incredibly sad but this is now (and has been for a while) a part of American life. To have the 18 school shootings Byker28i pictures above is in 46 days is beyond comprehension. To not have a massive public outcry against guns, gun sales and gun culture is then barbaric.
The POTUS' comments already looking like blame shifting and political manoeuvering.

I just wonder how a parent feels in a situation like this when they get a call from school and some one is saying your child is dead because someone blew his brains out with an assault rifle.

I just wonder what rage must go through there minds

Initially I should image disbelief, followed by grief, possibly followed by rage. But what form does that rage take, revenge? prevention by increased arms? prevention by getting rid of guns? Fortunately not a position many of us have to go through and by us I mean UK citizens, although we still have children killed by parents/partners who somehow slip through the system of checks - do we protest en-mass? If it doesnt affect YOU directly I'd suggest WE are only mildly touched enough to do anything about it.
