Hi Ian,

The camera's are find and simple to install but the software is not very good, unless it has improved in the last few months.

Have a look at either ring or eufy, ring does have a subscription, eufy does not.

Great thanks for this :)

You could try ringing a few local installers. We got a new house alarm and three external cameras last year with no subscriptions at what I thought was a very competitive price. Image quality seems to be good and the police have been twice to get footage after local incidents.

We have Blinks. They're OK but I wouldn't rush to buy them again. I've already replaced 2 due to water ingress but in fairness, I hard wired them and this might've let the water in. IME, they suck batteries and you can't use alkaline either.

Resolution is fine in daylight but at night, our car registrations become mush, from 25 feet away if I zoom in.

I'm only carrying on with them to make them pay, once they die, I won't get them again.

I'd say 6 out of 10.

Ok thank you, I'll look at some of the higher end options then as suggested above too.

Any other recommendations would be great, preferably before the end of prime day tonight haha

Check out Ezviz, they are made by Hikvision. I've found them very reliable, onboard SD storage or cloud storage and brilliant video quality at reasoable prices. The app is free and very well put together with a massive range of customisations, motion detect areas etc. They are wireless so you need a reasonably good signal.

We have Blink too, as Dale has said they do suck batteries dry if you have the sensitivity turned up, but we've had no issues with water ingress. For the price they're reasonable, better than anything else in that range when we bought them about 3 years ago

Reolink is also very good.

You can record to SD card, a NVR built into your NAS or a Reolink NVR. No subscription required.

I have a number of PTZ cameras around the house, in the garage and a doorbell and they have been flawless.

There's mention in the description of a "sync module" that lets you save video files to your pc or network drive if you have one. No idea what that item would cost you as it does not seem to be listed.

First line of the description;

  • This bundle includes 2 Blink Outdoor Security Cameras, 1 Blink Video Doorbell and Sync Module 2
and a full paragraph about it further down with a diagram on how to set it up

Local Storage: Sync Module 2
Save motion clips and photos from up to 10 Blink cameras connected to the Blink Sync Module 2 locally in your home and view them through the Blink app or the computer by plugging in a USB flash drive (sold separately) for no additional fee. Learn more about local storage via Sync Module 2.

I’ve five security cameras, plus a Ring doorbell,

3 Swann internal cameras, and 1 Tapo internal, and one Tapo external. All work fine.

I have them wired to smart plugs, in the event that they require a reboot remotely.

I use a eufy camera and have used it for 2 years.
It works great.
I put it higher up at the side of my house so it was out of reach. Battery lasts a few months then I have to take it down to charge, so I bought the solar panel that links to it, and it keeps it charged....I only needed to take it down once over the winter to charge it as it wasn't getting as much sun.befunky_2023-6-6_22-6-47.jpg
