One of those things that you do not appreciate until its used.

Out on an impromptu walk yesterday afternoon, thought to myself that grass bank looks slippery be careful, next thing legs up in the air landed on my back and slid to the bottom camera in hand. The camera and I both covered in mud, and concerned by standers asking If I was ok - old age does that to people, which is strange as I don't think of myself as old. Anyway, camera cleared of mud though the lens had filled up and will take longer to revive, the rear screen had a significant chunk out of it, my first thought were new camera, I switched it on and behold the screen had not been damaged.

Thanks goodness for the screen protector I put on when I first bought it, saved me a few bob.

Now I just need to figure out how to get it off so I can fit a new one, all tips gratefully received.

Ah, I've been looking at screen protectors lately. One of my pet hates is seeing a screen thick with greasy fingerprints. But you can't really avoid it with a flip up screen. At least a protector would go some way to mitigating that.

Good choice in fitting the protector. I've always fitted them and there is no arguing that they work - especially for the very fine scratches that happen over a long period. It's good to see that it protected the screen in a 'real' knock. (y)

I can't understand why the manufacturers' don't make provision for this - I suppose they're just hoping for more profit on screen replacements . . .

Probably just get a fingernail under a corner and it'll lift off.

My current screen protector has a chip and a hairline crack on it. Rather than than the camera.

My experience with phone screen protectors is that any minor trauma to the phone destroys the protector, where the phone would remain unblemished.

When I got this phone I bought a pair of protectors that lasted a couple of weeks each.
A year later the phone screen without a protector is unmarked

I am on the 2nd screen protector on the current phone.

I used to be an AVID anti phone screen protector, until I smashed it (iPhone 6), Since then I have put one on and I have smashed 2 screen protectors and zero phones.

I have also cracked 2 camera screen protectors and zero. screens.

All in all....all the screens are ALSO unmarked, because they were protected.

One plus for not having used a screen protector is that functional screens with a minor edge chip go for Very Very low prices indeed on the SH market.

Minor edge chips?

I don't think a screen 'protector' would have saved this one. But twelve months on a screen protector and some gaffer tape is stopping it all falling apart!

Screen protectors can be removed easily by catching the edge with a finger nail or sharp instrument and then lifting it off slowly. You can then clean the actual screen, but I would avoid trying to replace the protector. At this point, with a very clean screen surface, a new screen protector glass should be carefully placed on it. I always start by holding the new glass in place with the backer still on it. This lets me see where the edges of this glass are when it is positioned correctly. It has been easier to remove the backing and carefully align the glass to the screen when done this way. You can remove and replace it several time, as long as no finger prints or dirt get between the screen and the glass protector. Always hold the glass carefully by it's edges, and always assure that the screen is absolutely clean before putting the protector on it. It has always amazed me how flexible these thin glass screen protectors are. They don't break easily, but will break if bent too far. I have them on all of my camera displays and my cell phones. The touch screens actually seem more sensitive with a protector on it.
