Daily Sarah's 365 31st December 2013 - The End! (CAN'T BELIEVE I'VE ACTUALLY FINISHED!!)

Thanks both. I've had the flashes & triggers for a couple of years, but only ever used them for a couple of portrait shots & I'd bought the gels from ebay but not used them. I was amazed at the depth of colour that you can get with them. I now need to get some more marbles!

I thought I had some here somewhere... :cuckoo: was going to offer but can't seem to find 'em now...

Lovely marble shot Sarah, I like that you come up with so many new things, you are very inspirational. Keep up the good work.

Thank you Brian, that's really kind of you to say so :) I have to admit since finishing the cycle sport photography business I now get to play and experiment with my photography more more & I'm enjoying more than I ever have previously.

Don't try this at home!

Inspired by a fellow photographer (thank you Grant) who got up here to look at & take a shot of the view. I decided that as Andy & I were driving past the Harringworth Viaduct today, it would be rude not to go and have a look. So Andy parked the car & off I climbed up the embankment, very steep and filled with nettles it was as too.
I thought that the viaduct was not in daily use any more, but it looked as if it was, so I got the shot, admired the view, waved at Andy
& climbed down again fairly quickly. 5 minutes later as we drove up the road, a train went across. I got a shot of that as well :)

great shot sarah... couldn't you have moved a little more over to the right...?

kidding... looks frightfully high up...

Lovely Sarah, I ride through there quite often and I keep promising to come back with my camera. I definitely will now! Thanks for sharing.

1st June 2013

Doctor Who

Well, this started off by finding these stones from the beach when we were clearing out the drawers in the dining room & I thought, oh, they might make a nice still life, then I noticed the small one seemed to have a screaming face, so I balanced it on the other one added a bit of mood lighting & here we have the screaming stone man, which I thought looked quite like he should be in an episode of Doctor Who.

Its a winner Sarah...its scary and got great mood lighting....but don't degrade it by mentioning Dr who... Matt smith is leaving...the guy who brought back fez's as being cool to wear..

Catching up after having a busy few days again - completely love both the viaduct shots - really nice to see it from both angles.

Lovely lighting there - but it looks over sharpened or something in places to me - not sure

Great shots of the viaduct and I really like the marble (little green planet). I like what you did with the rock too

Agree with Sarah about the processing on the last one, looks a bit too HDRish for my tastes (if that makes sense).. Nice scene though.

Thanks all for your comments. Wierdly, this is just about as it came out of the camera, the RAW file just had the clarity and vibrance upped a little & was nominally sharpened. Then in PS just sized & made web ready. The HDR effect I suppose could come from the light which was low and side on.

Nice shot, wow black on black, I will have to try that one day.

Nice crank set too, you must have a serious cyclist in your life!

I think your photos are generally of a high standard. The flower compositions really stand out but I'm not too keen on the PlayMobil stuff or the recent 'greeny' shots. But certainly an interesting thread to follow.

Cheers

Really liking both of these - that black "boys toy" looks well shexy :D

Thanks Brian & yes I have!

Thanks for the comments Bob, I wanted to use this year as a chance to experiment with my photography after getting stuck in the rut of cycling photography and not getting my camera out much apart from shooting that at the weekends, so some things are working and some are not quite there or probably wont be there. But it's great to be able to take what I want and not have to bother with all the paperwork and stuff.

very nice

Thanks Jim

Thanks Sarah, have plans to take some shots of the bike when it's finished.

What about single dads? or gay dads? such a shame that they are so far behind the times.

Exactly Brian, that's just what I thought. Typical of the place where the sign is though, so far behind the times :( Also the building is getting into such a state that the council were looking into a compulsory purchase order.

I remember once going for lunch there with the works accountant. The sandwich I ordered came with red onion marmalade. What do you think they served.................

A dish of chopped raw red onions mixed with orange marmalade!!!!

LOL. The company where I work hold their "25 year club" dinners there... says it all really.

PS. I have another 20 years to wait before I get invited!

It will have fallen down by then Brian. The council were looking into a compulsory purchase order as it is in such a bad state of repair. Looking out of our office, it's dreadful to see the leaking gutters & the way the stone is deteriorating. Apparently the beams inside are rotting as well. It could be such an asset to the town if it were run properly.
