Hi Sarah

I used to love watching Emmerdale but didn't realise the place was actually real rather than just a set.......& it's not that far from home for me either.

Kitty shot for me,rather unusual angle but really works well :thumbs:

ooops..for got Together....can't really add to what you've already said about the shot but you had a good day and thats all that matters sometimes :-)

Thank you Lynne, they have built a village in the Harewood estate where they do the outside filming, you can walk close to it but down down the street.

I run a photo and media club at the primary school where I work and organised a trip for the children to visit the itv news studio last July, while we were there we were invited into the Emmerdale studios. The children loved it, we couldn't get into the Woolpack as they were filming in there but we went into the factory, cafe and the main house.

While we were outside the Woolpack this morning there was an elderly lady and her daughter looking around the village. The mother went into the front garden of one of the houses and started peering through the windows of a house whilst her daughter was trying to explain to her that they were real houses and not a set and that people lived in them!! It must be a nightmare for residents to have people staring at their houses like that!!

Thank you Alan, with the lighting being so dull the only ways to have to both in focus would have been flash or extremely high iso. I tried flash but wasn't happy with the results (my model was getting bored) and decided to sacrifice the dof to ensure a lack of noise. My model was being entertained by Peter and didn't want to sit on the table (I'm not surprised it was freezing!) so I had to be quick. I could have done with the lighting I had at the wedding last week!!:):)

Good shot. Those eyes look pin sharp. I can't believe we went there on such a foggy day given the great weather on the day before and after. You did well losing a much sky as you did.

Together, I think you've done well to recover this shot considering all the problems and things you don't like about it:thumbs: Although maybe consider a greater DOF next time ;) :naughty: shall I get my :coat:

Pack, so glad we didn't have this weather on the Saturday! I like the shot and the angle but agree with Alan about the slightly OOF lettering on the signs. I'm also not sure about the puddy cat, the cat steals all my focus (I do love puddy cats) which drags me away from the theme! I actually prefer number two purely for the theme. Sorry, I hate being negative on others work.
 
Hi, Sarah, Together, not easy lighting there :eek: Together works well, because they are now legally together. Just not too keen on the bride facing away....but the groom's face make up for this.

Pack #2 isn't for me, it's a bit busy. #1 is much better. Nice low composition and I like how the sign if OOF, I'd actually prefer if the cat wasn't there.

Thanks Marsha and Andy,
I had decided that #1 would be my entry for this weeks entry just because I like the cat posing! It seems the oof sign is a marmite one but it doesn't bother me so I will stick with my original decision!:)

Marsha, I've just worked out how to change the aperture on the compact so I won't have an excuse on dof when I use it now!!:lol::lol: Oh and no problem with you being negative so long as it's not every week!:lol:
 
We went to Knaresborough at the weekend to test our new caravan out. The site is just across the road from some wonderful woodland with the river Nidd flowing through it. We took the dogs for a walk both days but again I only took the compact with me.
This weeks entry is a reflection of the river bank on Sunday morning. If you look on my flickr you'll see the original shot as well. I've cropped, rotated and played with the levels/curves but no filters were used. If you're on my flickr have a look at a pic of Lela who is wearig a lovely mud face pack but is unfortunately a week late for last weeks "pack!":lol:

Thank you Mike, Marsha and Summer, you can't beat Autumn colours, I was just glad I had the compact in my pocket!:) It's a place to revisit during the different seasons I think!
 
I thought when I first looked it was some kind of PP thats really good for a reflection :clap:
 
This would have been an easy option if you'd have taken a straight shot of the trees and then just added a PS filter. Thumbs up for knowing what you wanted for the theme and seeing the image whilst out on the walk. I also like the crop you've chosen which I feel improves the image further.

Thank you Allan and Peter, I was lucky that the water was so still on parts of the river to capture the reflections.

Pack - Not sure with this one... Prefer 1st, but the pussy seems too prominent for the theme, the image itself is great, 2nd is more on theme for me but not so keen on the composition :)

Art - Ooooo I like that,the quirky angles add great interest, loving the pp :thumbs:

Lela's face is a cracker....pure enjoyment and anticipation!!!

I like your Art. The processing works well and it has a real impressionistic feel to it.

Only thing for me, it just feels like it's falling to the right, slightly. If you know what I mean :thinking:

Age; I like the first colour one best, which is a lovely shot. I think the rings get a little lost in B&W, and the composition is better than the single log.

Spread; obvious for the theme, but perfectly executed! I love the rustic feel of it, and its making me very hungry!

Together; nice shot, but it is a little blown in places. Certainly fits the theme though :)

Pack; I really like the first one. It is a shame about the sky, but hey, we have to take what we're given sometimes, and the composition and DoF are great. The second one is OK, but doesn't hold my interest the same.

Art; wow! My first reaction, for about 1/2 second, was "so what?", then it hit me what you've done with the PP, and it's brilliant! It's one of those shots that draws you in, so you find yourself staring at it far longer than you intended!

Lovely colour tones and detail :thumbs:
It has a painterly feel about it and it immediately struck me as an effect in photoshop (other editing programs are available ;)) but on having a closer look it becomes apparent its a reflection, very clever :thumbs:
It draws the viewers eye in and holds it while looking around to "figure it out"
Great work Sarah, well spotted, now go and order a large canvas and hang it on your wall, it deserves it. Iain

Andy the river bank was sloping and the trees were all bent towards the river so maybe thats why it looks like its leaning slightly:)

Thanks Mark, you've been busy catchig up this week!:) With art I must admit that I wasn't going to put it up but Peter persuaded me to and I'm glad he did!:) (he does come in handy sometimes but shh don't tell him I said that!)

Thank you Lynne and Iain, wow thank you!!:):) Even though Peter and I both take photos we have hardly any on display in the house (something I think that needs to change!:) We're hopefully going to go back there in a couple of weeks but I don't think the photo would work without the colour, I think I might just have to find the same spot and take the D7000 instead of the compact with me!

Art - lovely colours and very arty and on theme, but, unlike everybody else, I am having trouble seeing just what it is, even tho I know what it is, if that makes sense? :thinking:

I agree with Mark in that i could not see anything for about a couple of seconds and i have kept looking at it but maybe just one of those shots where the wiring of my eyes and brain don't read it as others do.

I thought that colour would be any easy one this week but think I've been spending so much time trying to think of an out of the box that I also ran out of time to get anything up. I've only posted late once and that was when we were on holiday so I didn't want another later so close to the end. It ended up as a bit of a rush job and not very original.
So here is colour followed by my handmade reshoot.

My last shot for handmade was some knitting that I was doig at the time so keeping in the theme I decided to take a close up shot of some cross stitch that I've bee doing. (it's actually a cross stitch rainbow so could have been colour as well!):)

Lovely colour coming through on the smarties Sarah, very pleasing composition and the dof looks great. A very good subject for the theme.

Handmade, Really like this one as well. All looks good. I would be tempted to crop out the top which has some red in there.
 
Great shot for colour. At first I wasn't sure about the broken Smarty, but looking at it I think that extra interest is needed.

Handmade reshoot I think could be improved a little if the lines were more diagonal, but I'm really not sure! I like it a lot as it is mind you :)
 
Art - Really good image which at first looked like it was photoshopped but well done for seeing this image at the time of shoot. The crop works well to enhance the overall scene.
Colour - Lovely colours and DOF. Like the broken one for added texture.
Handmade reshoot - Good shot but feel the need for a bit of stray wool, crochet hook, needle or something to indicate it's been made by hand, if you know where i'm coming from.
