weekly *Sarah* 2012 52 week challenge. Yippee I made it!!

   to you and Peter for being so quick. Just arrived home and started processing an orb but noticed Peter had already done one....'Ah, well', I thought, 'I'll process and post a wire wool spin for Round'....

:D

If I was you I'd put one of each up, there was a bit of a race here to see who would put theres up first and Peter won!! I hope the tree shots turned out as well!!:):):)

I saw the caravan one Flickr and decided then it was one of my favourite glow shots. Works well and a different take one the theme.

I think I like the spinning shot the best. The other one is good, looks a bit abstract.

Looks like a good night, shame we missed it but did end up with a new car :)

And.......of the two it's #1 for me. Great low perspective and the light in the doorway adds another point of interest. Bit of FG light might have been nice.

#2 looks a bit strange IMO. The colours look soft.

Cheers.

Hi Sarah, I like the first one apart from the light painting in the doorway, which I think distracts from the rest of it. Great photo :)

Number two is also lovely, but I think you've shoehorned it into the theme a little :). It would have been better for glow IMHO.

Glow - I really like the caravan shot. Nice caravan as well. Whose is it? It might have been cold out there but the cloudless sky really adds to the atmosphere of the shot

Round - Definitely like the wire wool shot. You found the best position by the look of it. Mine was awful in comparison.

Thanks Alex, you've picked the same shots as me!:):) I'm glad you've got a new car that you can fill with more camera gear!!!

Hi Andy, I'll send you out next time to light the foreground for me! I wasn't too sure how the wire wool one would work out as I stood away from everyone else and was worried about the angle of the path, though I couldn't see much at the time!!

Thanks Peter and Mark, I'm hoping that this weeks might be indoors or at least a daytime shot as I think I'll be getting a reputation for standing around in the dark!!:lol:

Hi Sarah, sorry I'm a bit behind again!

Glow, glad you posted the caravan shot, I know you're restricted on a caravan site but oh well, the sky really glows as does the caravan

I like the second shot too, can't say I can see where the faults are:thinking:

Round, that wire wool shot is AMAZING, I've seen loads of similar shots recently, how is it done?

The second shot is good too, but not sure how it fits the theme?

I think I would have liked the 2nd one better if you didn't have the lights going the length of the tunnel so just the round ones - as it is I think it's a bit busy. There is the temptation to do too much when light painting, I always think less is more. As others have said, this is also the problem with no.1 where you have light painted beneath the wire wool. Otherwise a pretty good shot of wws :)

Hi ya

#2 for me....great combination of colors , love the shapes you've created & how they go Round the corner  Can't crit as not got a clue how you'de do something like that...

Hi Sarah

Round - #1 on theme and good shot of the wool and handler. I find the blue light in the foreground a bit distracting.

'2 - don't quite get the connection to the theme, unless it is something gloopy coming round the bend ?

Thank you for your comments! :) I'm not sure why I put the last one in either but I do like the colours!!

Thank you for your comments this week!:) The light painting was fun and it was a great meet organised by Matt, hopefully he'll organise another soon!:)

It's been a very hectic week and yet again I struggled to get enthusiastic for this weeks theme! It has been a last minute job (being pushed by Peter, Thanks dear!:)) to take one this week.

This weeks pic is of one of the oldest glass plate negatives that I own. It is of my Grandpop (Ithink in his Salvation Army uniform) and I think possibly taken by my dad. It was their interest of photography that encouraged me from a young age into taking this up as a hobby. As Christmas is a time of thinking of family and friends I decided to take the shot in front of our Christmas tree and used the candle to light the neg for a softer lighting. I must thank Peter not only for encouraging me to take one this week but also for holding the neg for far too many shots and for long exposures!

Glow- The caravan shot is brilliant, technically a mess, and has so many glows in one shot. #2 is on theme but looses the impact you usually achieve.
Round - Matt's masterclass has produced some fabulous shots for this theme. Impressed with the other 52/12 threads. You have produced another shot, being close and low. Hope nothing was burnt:lol:
Shot 2 with the light painting is my winner, fantastic colours in the lights and cavern walls.
Negative - Can't find fault, love the idea of the candle and background. Definately how plates would have been viewed in olden times.

That's lovely Sarah, with great props :)

If I have to give any crit, I'd say for perfection I'd like the flame to be slightly more obscured by the negative (it looks a bit like its floating in front), and I'm not sure the bokeh'ed lights in the background add anything. That said, if this wasn't about offering comment, I'd just say it was spot on!

Thats a really lovely picture and it has a story to it too

Thank you Allan!!:):)

Sarah that is just lovely, lighting is excellent. Has to be my fave image of yours during this project.

Wow! Michael you have made my day, I was really worried about this one this week it just shows you should never give up and something will always come to mind!:):)

Thank you John for the catch up! One thing I have learnt from doing the 52 is to go with my first choice more often instead of worrying about it too much!:)

Thank you Mark, I did try some shots with the flame in different positions but it was too bright and obstructed my Grandpops image which for me was the focus of the shot, I know what you mean though as I noticed when taking them but just couldn't find an alternative that I was happy with!:)

I have another without the bokeh which I'll post up in a minute for you to compare but I couldn't decide if the background was too dark!:)

Heres the same shot but without the bokeh background. I'm going to stick with the first though just because it shows Christmas and that that is what Christmas is about for me - family, friends and memories!!:)

Having seen that Sarah, I think you made the right choice; the bokeh does add to it, especially as you say with the Christmas sentiment :)

For the flame, the only thing I can think of is a little burning in PP, but I don't know how well that would work. Again I think you made the right decision by keeping it clear of your Grandpop.

Cracker, bang on theme and I can see its been well thought out and processed. I think it would also work well without the inclusion of the photograph on the table.

Good show!

Hi Sarah

Negative - good comp, nice lighting and excellent subject. Bit of a highlight on the table top left , presumably from the tree lights which you have removed. The photo on the table is prob unnecessary for the theme - altho would have been apt if it was a print from the negative.

Another vote for the bokeh background Sarah.
The flame has been mentioned already and my pp skills aren't up to suggestions on how to deal with it
I particularly like the backstory to your image Sarah. It would also be a very strong image without your explanation as the viewer's interest is held wondering about the subject of the negative (well this viewer was ;))
Wonderful work Sarah, :)

Thanks Mark, I don't think my pp skills are up to it yet but maybe one day....:)

Thanks Andy, I originally took it without the photo but thought something was missing so threw it for the final shots!!:)

Thank you Alan, I think the highlight is from the tree lights, unfortunately I didn't have time to get the neg printed so settled for this one instead!

Wonderful work Sarah, :)

Thank you Iain, I'm surprised how well these rushed shots can turn out!!:) (sometime!!)

Hi ay

great image for negative & love the story that goes with it . the 2 shots posted are both wonderful , love the lights in the BG but the shot works equally as well with out them...really top work missus

Thank you Lynne, I think I still prefer the first shot!:):)

Lovely shot - Definitely liking the pp you've given it. Am I allowed to change my mind? I think I prefer the bokeh one now.:exit:

Thanks Peter, Yes you can change your mind seeing that you are going for my first choice!!:lol:

Well I can't quite believe it but I have finally reached the end!!:):) I have learnt many things this year and have become alot more critical of my own pics.

Thank you to everyone for your support this year, I have decided not to take part again next year but will look at doing a different challenge!:) (just need to decide which!!)

Anyway heres my last entry - Christmas is a busy time - I thought about taking pics of me preparing all the veg for Christmas dinner but forgot to take them:cuckoo:, I thought about taking pics at the local diet class which was very busy but chickened out:shake:, I tried one shot in Blackpool of the shops being busy on Boxing Day but it wasn't that busy!, so after lots of persuasion and kicks up the bum from Peter:nono: I finally got a quick shot today!:)

Santa is very busy at Christmas and I am always busy knitting presents for family/friends so I decided to get a shot of Santa that I have knitted! Its a bit dissappointing to finish with this one but at least I have finished!:)

Hi ya

well done on completing your 52 project & a good shot to finish with...great DOF , lovely colors & very sharp

ps...gotta ask...why is your thead now titled " Bananas " ?

Thanks Lynne, it's gone "bananas" because it won't let me change the title myself, Marcel is trying to fix it but in the meantime it's gone bananas like me!!
