dear me, I really can't make up my mind - I think I will just say that for no.3 I might have gone for more of an end-on shot. No.1 is fine as it is, but I might have cropped a bit more on no.2

edit - the more I look at no.1 the more I prefer it :) :)

glad to hear your recovery is progessing nicely...Kepake pain killers are the best....you know you're in pain but they really make you not give a damm :D I kept a couple back for emergency use :lol:

Choices choices for your images...I'm torn between #2 & #3...on balance I think #3 gets it...great angle , lovelt colors in the bark & lichen plus you can clearly see all the rings...top shot hun :clap:

If left as they are, I would go for #1 as the detail of the rings stands out better. But I would crop it just above and to include the '4th log up on the left' i.e the one with the kind of star shape in the rings. However if you did that to #2 too, then that would not be so busy and might compete with the b&w - but maybe not (see I still prevaricate)

Like it. Clean, especially like how the surface blends with the BG. WB looks good as does the composition.

Slightly wider dof for me I think to give a bit more detail TP the veg.

Cheers, and where's the other half of the sandwich ;)

I do like this tho, the garnish really makes the image special, even the crumbs add something, well done missus :clap:

Hi Sarah and sorry I’ve missed so many weeks

Duo – Lovely shot with great BG
Flow – Looks perfect to me having spent hours cleaning up spilt liquid during experiments.
Friendship - Good take on theme and #1 for me. Don’t mind the writing which adds greatly to the overall effect.
Change – Colours in the edited version stand out well and the water/damp rock enhances the whole effect
Natural – Love the lighting which really adds to the colour. The focus works but wonder if the whole shot in focus would have worked better.
Age – Liking #1 for the contrast which makes the rings jump out better than the colour. #3 may have looked good in B/W as well
Spread – The edit, although a minor adjustment, has turned this into a brilliant shot and as Peter say’s good for an advert

Spread - good idea, well executed.

Good colour overall and exc detail in the bread, crumbs and topping.

I think that a bit more dof would help by including more detail in the green leaf because it looks like rocket but not sure because of lack of focus - and that kind of bugs me.
Also altho the b/g and table top blend well, the line between the two is just visible and I would like to see it lower, rather than cutting thro the topping.

very scrummy looking image (feeling hungry now) , you've bought out the texture in the bread & paste/pate really well , love the stray crumbs & the BG :clap:
Just to be awkward....I could live without the greenery though cos it draws my eye away from the main subject..
 
Thank you all for your comments again this week! I decided to have the green in as it looked too plain without it, I also tried having the rocket in focus but it wasn't the best specimen and would have put everyone off eating it! The background was a piece of mdf - I tried various backgrounds but went for the subtle tones on this one.:)
 
I'm really not happy with this weeks shot but time has run out and I don't want to post late (something I've not yet!!).

We were on our way to my cousins wedding in Bristol o Saturday when the theme came through. My first thoughts was bride and groom shots or a shot of my family together! I'd left the D7000 at home and only had a compact in my handbag. It was a fantastic day but the gardens at the hotel had tons of clutter and because I couldn't change the aperture to help eliminate it. It was incredibly bright and am so glad that I don't do weddings as it was a nightmare to photograph in.

I've had a good go at editing the clutter out but can't bring back the highlights (the joy of not shooting raw).

I was going to shoot another idea tonight but have spent the evening catching up on threads so will leave it for a re shoot week!

Not my best by far but it does show my cousin Ben and Sam starting their new lives together!! It also for me reminds me of a super day with most of my family together which is a rare thing!!:)
 
Sarah, Can't argue about the theme or the setting. You already know it's too bright and blown out but I would just add that a shorter DOF to throw out the BG from the back rock and beyond would also make the couple stand out. You had a good day out and they had good weather.
 
Natural - lovely colour! Slightly abstract and thats good for the theme and shot.

Age - the b&w is great, works so well and what a great find for this theme.

Spread - good enough to eat. Another fab one, simple but well captured. Nice tones and effect.

Together - good shot for a compact and meets the theme completely :-)
 
Sarah, I like your photo here. What did you have your D7000 set too? Exposure program/shutter etc?
 
Sarah, you have given your own critique to "together" so there is no need for me to mention anything.
I will however just say that I think sometimes a photograph doesn't have to be technically perfect to mean something. There is everything else around the circumstances of the subject that make it special. You've said what a great day you had, it needs no more explanation than that, memories, what more does one need? Iain

Thank you for your comments John, Michael and Bob!:) The lighting was very harsh, great for the wedding but not so good for a photographer! Had I of had my D7000 with me then I would have used a smaller DOF and been able to play with the exposure a bit more - but I do have to say it was great to use the compact for a change and not to be thinking too much about it!:)

Thank you Mike, most people would have thought the lighting would be great for the photographer but it must have been a nightmare for him!:)

Thank you Iain, it was a super day and I do think that sometimes you can miss so much standing around taking pics and like you said memories what more do you need!!:):)

Thank you Alan, I can't take credit for the stepping stones - the brides and groom were posing on them for the photographer who was standing to the left of them, inbetween shots Sam and Ben turned to face their family which was when I managed to grab this one!!:):)
 
We were on our way to Ladybower yesterday when this weeks theme came through and soon realised that we wouldn't be able to take a shot there for it (apart from Alex:)). We had a great day and swapped ideas for the theme but apart from the obvious I didn't feel too inspired by it. Later last night The Woolpack Inn, from Emmerdale sprung to mind , a quick search on google told me that the pub was still called the Woolpack and that it is in the village of Esholt which is between Bradford and Leeds.

Peter and I took a trip up there this morning - the closer we got the thicker the fog, so I started thinking it would have to be a shot of the pub sign. Esholt is a beautiful village that looks like it gets swamped with visitors Emmerdale spotting.

From 1976 to 1996 Esholt was used for the outside location shots for the Yorkshire Television drama series Emmerdale Farm later Emmerdale. The series then relocated to a purpose built set based on the layout of Esholt on the Harewood estate in Leeds.
During the time the village was used as a filming location the name of the village pub was changed from the Commercial Inn to The Woolpack.

Anyway I'm going for #1 but have put 2 in so you can see all of the pub. As you can see the sky is as white as white can be but it can be "grim up North!":):)

Really like the one with the cat in nice wide angle shot adds something that makes it interesting rather than just a shot of a pub
