I prefer no. 1 - London Pride - also a drink![]()
Soft - The triptych works well but agree sign in too in your face. I would have preferred to see footprints reversed in the middle.
Pride - I prefer the drink but these are well shot with the back lighting really doing its job. Think the second shot could be improved with the background black as #1
I like number 1 best. The backlit hairs and the diagonal composition work extremely well. Great shot![]()
Hi Sarah,
I love the tryptych it works really well. great colours and composition - nice work. Nick
I had thought about taking a shot of the drink but did not know there was a plant.
Both are good shots but I think #1 just has it. Nice lighting and good focus.
Looking on my phone I hadn't noticed that number two's background wasn't as black, but still looks great to meAlthough I do prefer number one for the detail and lighting.
I know you said you used natural lighting but how did you get this shot? I cannot get a black background without losing detail in whatever it is I'm shooting! I end up needing to pp the background a bit. Can I ask what settings you have used here?
Love the back lighting too - I would also like to hear about your setup![]()
Nice detail and lighting in Prides. I prefer #2, nice and sharp and I like the white edges. What's that in the lower right corner
Cheers.

#1 is a stunner. I like the use of back lighting and with the stem coming right out of the corner

*Sarah* said:Hope this helps a bit, but I think there was a bit of luck involved as well!![]()
Hi Sarah
great pair of images for Pride....like your take on the theme....#1 for me...fab totally black BG & lighting....
good to read your set-up as well...will give it a try like that for my next shot involving black BG...cheers for the tips![]()
Thanks for that.
Looks like more skill than luck! Maybe you should go and buy a lottery ticket with that kind of luck![]()

Ah, good use of the theme Sarah and well taken![]()
Nice. This take didn't even cross my mind
It's #2 for me...just a tad on the top.
Can I ask how you lit this one? I struggle in the area
Cheers.
Hi Sarah...
Short...nicely done, thought I was the only short straw on here!!!!
then Andy said someone else had done short straw...
almost went for exactly the same take as you, but changed my mind last min![]()
Nice bit of thinking again. I prefer the lighting of #1 which gives more saturated colours to the straws
Hi Sarah
good thinking for the theme & well lit...#2 for me , possibly boost the straw color a smidge ? Great shots though...well done on the lighting![]()
Yep, a very good bit of thinking that, I also like the more saturated colours of number 1 and the hand/finger position is better too.

Some nice creative thinking there Sarah
My vote goes to #1, it looks like it has slightly more even light on it, particularly in the palm of the hand holding the straws.
I do prefer the hands position in #2 though
Posting more than one photograph gives us choices choices
Good work though, looking forward to tomorrows theme, is it Saturday yet?
Iain
Hi Sarah, such a simple idea for theI can't decide between the two, I like the lighting and straw colours in number one but the hand positions in number two
I really hope you're better soon. Roll on the new theme and a healthy start to May!
Another one for #1 with the better hand position

The dandelion is beautiful and sharp, as are the seeds in flight
I prefer the 1st one as the seeds on the head look as though they're precious gems sorry Sarah, i seem to have missed a few weeks.
Pride - very different idea, i had thought of the drink, but didn't know about the plant, the lighting and focus is really good on both, but i prefer the composition of 1.
Short - 1 for me as well the colours are really vibrant and i think this makes the shot.
Flight - again clever idea, i am also intriqued to know how you did this
excellent flight - one of my first thoughts, my dandelions are determined to be yellow tho - I love your shot, bg and lighting are spot onI prefer the 1st one as the seeds on the head look as though they're precious gems
just off to do mine, trying something new lol
Brilliant and simple Sarah. Love them![]()
Liking the visual impact of number 1. Great idea and great pics.
Ooo not what I was expecting at all, but brilliant idea for the themeThe dandelion is beautiful and sharp, as are the seeds in flight
Yet again I have to ask how did you shoot this!
Hi Sarah, a first for me, getting in early. Great idea and my vote is #1. Very sharp and great composition. Also intrigued how you managed this shot.
)
Hi Sarah
a pair of great images for the Theme....well done for not only being quick off the mark but also for them being so darn good
Great focus & sharpness , prefer the crop of #1 for being closer
I did think about doing this for my shot but all the dandelioons round here have been flattened by the monsoon that is todays weather :bang:
*Sarah* said:I think I need to take a pic of my set up! It was a similar set up to last time.
The dandelion was in a glass held still by a peg, I used one flash to the right and slightly above the subject but this time I used a softbox as well! I took a few shots of the dandelion to get the exposure right - I had to move the background further away as it wasn't coming out as black as I wanted. Then Peter "Delta Skies" kindly sat a blew the dandelions so I could try and get one in flight. It took a lot of shots to get these ones!![]()
Ah, very clever! I was more after how you got them in flight, I would probably need to shoot 100 shots and then merge in PP! You've done very well here![]()
