weekly *Sarah* 2012 52 week challenge. Yippee I made it!!

Ironing!! I (just) remember the last time you did one of my shirts

:lol::lol:

Letter - the typewriter letters for me. Has to be. Gritty and dark, another one I like.

Contrast - so far the 2 I have looked at have been soooo different. Contrasting! A nice find and a good take on the theme. The colours are nice and also contrast so a great shot for the theme.

Lovely interpretation of the theme Sarah. :)
The contrast between the new and the rusty are detailed well in your image. I am not sure a B&W conversion would improve this at all, I like the colour tones within the rusty wire fence??
As you were able to compose the subject of your photograph, I think a side by side composition would be interesting too, sort of a before and after.
That might be my ocd side coming out, wanting the fence parts lined up

It is a creative take on the theme though Sarah, well spotted and put together. Iain

Very good shot for contrast! Really like that one. Would fit for old/new, smooth rough, colour/greyish, complete/incomplete etc etc Lots of contrasting interpretations then!

Thank you Iain, a side by side would be interesting to see, I'm not sure if I could have bent the fence enough to get them like that though!!:) I think I have started to get a bit of ocd since starting this challenge!

yes I like it, rusty old and clean new

Straight - I love this shot for it's colour and clarity of the glasses. Winner
Letter - both good shots. Nice lighting picking up the typewriter keys. Think the idea of the shadow would be my preferred.
Contrast - great idea and good find. definately says old and new.

Desperately playing catch up, so sorry it's brief!

Straight - as everyone else has said, it's a wonderful shot. Love the colours, the execution, the lot.
Letter - #2 for me, I think it's wonderful as-is. Love the composition and (lack of) lighting.
Contrast - nice opportunist shot, says contrast very well. Love the colour of rust!

Hi Sarah

love the rusty tones in the Contrast....set against the new wire it works really well & great DOF...

Thank you Summer, John, Vicky and Lynne!:)

Hi

Letter - great spot for #1 - good comp and really like the colours. excellent sinuous shape
#2 - others' description as gritty is accurate. lovely item to photo and on theme. just a touch too dark for my taste.

Contrast - another good spot. Imaginative take on the theme because it contrasts on many levels - colour, patina, texture, age. Excellent focus. Some suggestion of converting to mono but in my view that would be awful as the elements of contrast come out so much better in colour.

Thanks for your comments Alan!:):) I agree about the colour it's the colour of the rust that makes it for me!:)

Hi Sarah, lovely shot for contrast, the detail and colour in the rust really stands out against the new barbed wire. Great composition and DOF too:clap:

Oh and it was good to see you and Peter again on Sunday.

Thanks Marsha, it was great meeting you again on Sunday as well, I just need to get round to editing the shots now!!:):)

Here are my 2 entries for Mineral. Apologies that I've got two again this week but Peter has a very similiar one to me (the joy of going shopping together!) and I think his is better, so I took another one of a pebble that The boys found on the beach many years ago and now lives on the fire place.:):)

#1 Not happy with the sharpness on this so will try and reshoot!

Both good mineral shots and on theme. Prefer the first but only because of the colours. Maybe the DOF could be increased right to the bottom of shot as not really highlighting a particular area, but down to personal choice.

ps. not yet seen Peters version.

like the first pic just as good as Peters in my opinion

I like the 1st one too, lovely colours, I'd perhaps try it without the crystal to the left and get more blue in :) :)

To my eyes the pebble looks like it has motion blur...could be the texture of the stone, but something just doesn't look right about it, maybe the light? Have you tried it in natural light? Or maybe wet the pebble and try?

Hi, Sarah, #1 for me. It's the blue that does it for me, really nice and vibrant. Looks quite sharp to me and I suspect cropping out the lower left, which draws the eye away from the blue, would effect the sharpness.

#2 is a good find. I can never work out if it's my laptop or not but I'd prefer a bit more contrast and possible a B&W conversion.

Cheers.

Love the colours in number 1, would be great to see a reshoot of this. Number 2, nice and simple and works very well.

Hi Sarah. I've not looked at Peters yet either so I can't compare!
I can't see any issues with sharpness:thinking: I really like the range in texture and colours  the composition works well too.

Thank you John, Michael and Marsha!:) I've had another go which I'm about to put on!!

Thank you, but I still think his is better but Sshh don't tell him I said that!:lol:

Thanks for the comments! Summer the pebble was taken using light from the window but I might have a go at wetting the pebble and re shooting. :)
Andy i tried a bit more cotrast but it didn't look quite right but I'll have a go a B&W conversion and up the contrast on that to see if that helps!:)

I wasn't really happy with the last 2 that I put up (the trouble with trying to take some when not really feeling 100%) so I have had another go today - sorry I know it means more to have to look at!!:)

Anyway what do you think of these - I'm still not happy with them both but they're getting there!!:)

Perrier Mineral Water by *sarah*., on Flickr

The Perrier shot is a cracker. Your imagination is working overtime. I love the use of the three glasses in front of the bottle. As for the refracted image of the bottle in a glass at the bottom of the image.... Well brilliant :clap::clap:

Ok so the second attempt at your agate mineral shows why you weren't happy with the sharpness first time round! The version is so much better!

I love your Perrier shot though:clap::clap: it's not very often I mention anything wrong in your shots as they're just all so good, but for this I think the darker area of the Perrier label at the top is my only issue!!!!

Other than that, I reckon with is a good advert shot!!!

Those colours are really nice and I like the picture, focus is better than the previous version. A great idea on the mineral water too, all looks pretty good.

Thanks Marsha, The dark label as well as the glare/smudge on the furthest away glass are the 2 main things I'm not happy with as well - watch this space!!:lol: The thing with this challenge is that its made me even more critical of my own work as well!!

certainly improved upon the first mineral shot

not to sure about the perrier shot couldn't say why though

Agate shot a lot better. Nice idea using the mineral water and well executed. As pointed out just the label needs addressing.

Thanks John, I ran out of time to reshoot the water for this week but I will try and improve it - I might even try it with wine glasses and wine tonight!!:):)
