For anyone thinking of buying one of these I have just come across this latest offer from Dixons It is £259 less £20 cashback making it £239 delivered.

Could be tempted myself so got 4 weeks to make up my mind:), offer runs until Dec 4th

Same offer at PC World but you can collect at store

pcworld says their model doesn't have wifi though most specs say it does.

I'm collecting mine from PCWorld tonight - my laptop packed up during the week.

Will report back on the WIFI thing.
 
The NC10 does have WIFI.
Otherwise my missus NC10 connects to my network by magic :D
 
Also £239 in Argos - no need to send a form in for the £20 off. So much for PCWorld Exclusive!
 
Picked mine up from PCWorld - they price matched Argos so it was £237. Plus £20 cashback to come. So £217 :)

Typing this on it - it'll be nice once I've got rid of all the pre-installed crap like McAfee and Google Toolbar....!

They price matched no hassle - Argos is 2 door down from them, although the chap had internet on his till so he had a quick surf to check out the price :)

Its right on Argos home page at the moment as well :)

I want one, but not with XP on it.
Doesn't seem right to buy something new with XP, gotta get one with windows 7, and not that starter crap either...:(
 
I am surprised they price matched because the Argos one has a smaller battery. It is a 4 hour one. The Dixons/ pc world version has a 7 hour battery.

One of the main selling features and what made the NC1O so popular is it's 7 hour battery life.
I very much doubt that Samsung have changed the battery spec, it's more than likely a mistake on the Argos website.

The point of a netbook is in the name.
They are not designed for heavy number crunching like a regular laptop.
Hence the reason that XP was the way forward rather than Vista.
However, the good news is that Win 7 has been reported to run very well on these Atom CPU based machines.
I don't have a spare HDD so I can't try Win 7 on my missus NC10 :(

I hope you are right but if not I am keeping my fingers crossed they again do not realize where I have one reserved :).

I'm not going to go into Argos to have a look at one but I really can't see a reason for a change in the battery to a lesser version.
 
If you also order through Quidco you'll get 3% cashbck so that's another £5 and a bit off!
 
The NC10 has a very impressive data recovery tool that runs independently from Windows.
When my missus somehow managed to corrupt the registry, I hadn't back up her data for a while and she needed some stuff.
I presumed the usual, remove the HDD and connect it to a desktop so I could retrieve the data.
No need, the Samsung recovery tool recognises USB HDD's and the back up process was simple to use.
It's a great bit of kit for the money and I am also tempted to buy one now the price has dropped.

Apparently Unbuntu Netbook version is very nice. I will probably put it on it.

I use Kunbutu on my main PC and its excellent.

Can't see the point in Windows 7 (which I've never heard of, didn't we just get Vista?!) - I only upgraded from NT4 about 18 months ago!

:lol: We got Vista a few years ago.
Win 7 was released in October.
No wonder you are behind if you only upgraded from NT4 18 months ago :p
I'm not a linux user but I know quite a few people who are and run it on their netbooks.
 
All roads lead to win 7, especially on netbooks...:)

They are putting win 7 starter version on them, but there are various limitations that make it sound like a bag of ***** compared with the full version.
That C10 will run win 7 home better than XP, even XP runs ok but, I dunno, have new laptop want new spangly OS too....:D

Maybe I should get one with XP whilst they're cheap and buy 7 at a later date..:shrug:

I loved NT4 :lol:

I run XP x64 which seems to be excellent.

TBH all I want from an OS is for it to stay out of the way, and not pop up idiotic bubbles when your mouse goes near anything, and try not to "help". I don't need themes, sounds, annoying messager apps or any crap built in. As long as I can run my apps thats all I need from an OS :)

No doubt MS are claiming Win7 is faster, more secure than the last one.... they always seem to do that :lol:
 
Just picked one up from Currys £237 pm'd Argos less £20 cb from Samsung and hopefully £7.84 form TBC so £209.16 bargain! Used Argos/Currys reserve and collect as proof in stock.

So, what are we knacking off then, McAfee and the toolbar are a gimme, 6 processes and 150mb of memory went with those...:shake:.
I can't figure out if the Samsung updater, network manager, user guide and recovery kit are useful or not, though I have backed up with the recovery solution.
Looks like I could use everything else.
I might have a rummage in the start tab msconfig, see if there's any m$ messaging crap/useless processes starting for no good reason..
 
I managed to bag one at PC World but not without a bit of a battle with the salesperson who seemed to be making it up on the spot, first saying they had a memo from head office that they could not price match Argos, then when challenged that I knew of another PC World store price matching yesterday he said the memo came in last thing at 9.00 pm. When challenged why he said the Argos price included the cashback, again I challenged him stating that only their group was party to the cashback from Samsung, he disagreed saying all retailers including Argos were included.

I said well I am sorry but you are wrong and if you have a look at the Argos website you will see that you are at which point he handed me over to a salesgirl to check the Argos site, he in the meantime disappeared as he knew I was right. It was then checked and the purchase was made on a pricematch with Argos.

I could not understand why he resisted the pricematch, had he been told to put customers off by head office? or had he been told by the store manager in order keep their margins up? he might have been the store manager for all I knew, he certainly had a good go at putting me with what were all lies.

It was no surprise that he was nowhere to be seen when I left the shop with my prize:D

I zapped all off that. I don't want anything updating, managing or trying to guide me with my say-so.

I went through Windows Update, installed the Genuine Advantage Tool, and got the updates I wanted directly.

I hate stuff pre-installed stuff, the only stuff allowed on my machines are stuff I've directly installed.

I know what you mean, I'm not a PC whizz but I knew there was something not right with a brand new vaio I bought that ran 64 processes and 600mb of the 512 available ram, straight out of the box.....ridiculous :cuckoo: and not fit for purpose.
I do know you have to be slightly careful with laptops because they have battery management and a few other stuffs that ought to run ideally.
 
I've got mine dual booting into Linux now :)

I use eeebuntu on my eee901 netbook and it runs really well although on the minute 4gb ssd that it has for the operating system I have to use a very stripped down version to get any room left on there! I used to run a stripped down xp which worked well until the windows updates came in, got down to 30meg free and had to bail

I just got another netbook to replace the main laptop which pegged it, the packard bell dot m, was £329 from pcworld but has a 320 gb harddrive and 2gb ram, came with vista premuim even though all spec and even sticker on the body says basic, my windows 7 upgrade is in the post. Vista is more than a little slow to start but for browsing once its up and running is great.

will update on win 7 when I get it, would be nice if it was a little quicker to run as the missus won't let me linux this one :p
