Samsung NC 10 £239 Cashback now received :-))

Much prefer Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix to the default XP. It all "just works" and I'm replying to you in Firefox wirelessly.

Very painless :)

A bit O.T.

I know this is just a netbook and its purpose is not for editing, but will this run Canon DPP and CS3?
Second question, can the monitor be calibrated?

Thanks to the OP for the heads up
was looking for a netbook to replace laptop (I'm adding a 21" imac hopefully but don't tell the wife)

One of the main selling features and what made the NC1O so popular is it's 7 hour battery life.
I very much doubt that Samsung have changed the battery spec, it's more than likely a mistake on the Argos website.

I can confirm the Argos version is a 4 hour battery....why didn't I get it from pc world or currys.....I dunno...
So Crocky is correct, you're all doing well to get a price match on the Argos C10..

During my battle with PC World over the Argos pricematch, after confirming the price at Argos I thought I was about to lose when they said they just needed to check that the spec was the same, after a quick look at the spec on the box and the Argos website it was confirmed they were the same spec, they missed the bit where it said up to 4 hours battery time:D

Has anyone tried the online cashback form? does'nt work for me, bombs out with some sort of xml error after hitting submit...?

typing this on my nc-10 again, I had it on stand-by, hit the on-switch when I got in, and Ubuntu was up and running from Suspend almost immediately :)

Andy, mine did the same twice, I am just going to post mine off.

Blimey, I really am surprised that Samsung have changed the battery on the NC10.

Argos have the 7 hour battery version listed @ £279

Ha, and the spec was checked By PC World in front of me and ok'd, wonder if they have realised yet:D

I had the same problem with their site. I did submit the claim on line and it seemed to have gone through. But, there is no confirmation from them, so
I won't trust the web site.... Just to be sure they have your claim, fax or post!

Its a bit poor service from Samsung and I have email them about this and got a confimation that they have received my email, but three days with no reply.

Got mine from Currys last Sat, price matched Argos, plus 10% difference, now claiming the £20 cashback, brought mine down to £217 :)
When you sent your cashback via the internet has anybody received a confirmation of receipt
ps, this one's for my daughter, got mine sometime earlier this year, paid £315 then, these are great machines

I never got an e-mail confirmation, but the final screen showed "Thanks for Registering" so I assume it got there OK.

thanks puddleduck, yes I got the same, just expected an automated email confirmation, give it a week or so then I might send the form by post :)

I got ripped off!! I never got the 10% difference back I paid £219 net.:D

No!! I ripped them off as it was not a valid price comparison and I knew at the time ;)

Mmm, you might get 2 x £20;)

I bought one of these for my Mum last night. I managed to get the price match with Argos easy enough because I had confirmation with me that Argos had them in stock. I'm going to do the cashback online and fax it off to make sure it gets there. I doubt I'll get the money twice though.

Had a play with it last night setting it up and it does seem like a lovely machine. I wouldn't mind having one myself. My Mum's only bought it to take on holiday with her so she'll hardly be using it. :(

Would you mind an idiot asking a dumb question about Netbooks please.

I saw a couple advertised today and the spec said "CD/DVD Drive- NO".

If they don't have these drives how do you get software loaded - MS Office, Kaspersky etc

Many Thanks Rob

This would appear to be another moment where, as I approach my 47th birthday, I feel my grasp of all things technical is slipping way

Flash drive, external harddrive, download it direct from the net.

Or a USB DVD RW.
It'd probably be the easiest option for someone who has sofware purchased on CDs /DVDs plus they can also back up to disks.

I popped into PC World tonight and asked if they'd price match Argos. Things were looking promising with the assistant until the manager came out and said that because of the £20 cash back, basically the prices were the same. :bang:

I tried to see if he would budge at all on price but he was having none of it so I walked out ... and straight next door into Currys.

The Curry's manager was more than happy to match the Argos price, and what's more he cocked the 10% of the difference off and gave me an extra £3 off rather than £2 so I ended up paying £246.99 :D

Now all I;ve got to do is fill in the form I picked up in PC World for the £20 cashback (which wasn't advertised in Currys) and claim it as it's valid for all DSG shops.

Sounds like the same rubbish I was given before they gave in to my argument.

Just wondering if anyone has received their cashback yet?.

Sorry all I haven't read through this thread,So I might be repeating what someone else has said!

But beware this might be the 3 cell as opposed to the more expensive 6 cell with better battery!

The NC10 has a very impressive data recovery tool that runs independently from Windows.
When my missus somehow managed to corrupt the registry, I hadn't back up her data for a while and she needed some stuff.
I presumed the usual, remove the HDD and connect it to a desktop so I could retrieve the data.
No need, the Samsung recovery tool recognises USB HDD's and the back up process was simple to use.
It's a great bit of kit for the money and I am also tempted to buy one now the price has dropped.

Yes, I had to resort to this when the Windows restore wouldn't work. Certainly far easier than wiping the HD and starting from scratch.

Still haven't received my cashback, sent application over the net on 7th Nov, just to be sure posted day before yesterday, they must receive it by 4th Jan, anybody recvd their cashback

Kevin do you have the link for the cashback offer? Need to get mine filled out.

My gf recently bought one of these from pc world, any way she could get them to pricematch argos now? also has anyone actually got their money from samsung yet?

Postie just delivered my cashback:thumbs:

Hey!!!

My wife got one of these with the cash-back, it looked a good offer so I got one a week later a letter came this morning addressed to her, she's at work today but it looks like it could be the cash-back,
I'll let you know later tonight,
Billy
