Daily ~Sam~'s 365 - one day at a time

I actually really like today's one. Great sense of perspective. It also shows the closing down sale at HMV (very topical as a documentary style shot). There's interest added by the lady in the foreground (although I wish you hadn't cropped her feet) and then there's that crazy awning that leaps from one side of the street to the other (so it has great architectural structure). A winner all round really

If I were to suggest some improvements, I'd maybe try from a slightly lower angle (capturing more of that awning) and also with a bit softer light. Either way I think you need to head back to that location

Thank you very much for your comments, Tim, I'm pleased you like it :) I could definitely try from a lower angle and see how that goes - and next time I'll pay more attention to details like feet! :)

Hey Sam, a little catch up needed here....

Great mono on the church doors, really works well. Nice homeward bound shot, love the processing on that shot.

As with others not sure about Day 59 hun, but nice shot of the church wall, and love the childhood toys....great composition and lighting.

Love the Ermintrude shot, think it really works well, and yesterday's shot could one day act as a reminder of what high streets used to look like.

Thank you very much for your comments & feedback, Simon - I'm glad you liked most of them.....59 wasn't one of my better days and I nearly swapped it out but kind of thought I should stick by my choice and learn from the feedback and comments (I won't be going to any more carparks!)

Sam Frustration comes to us all whilst doing a 365 challenge but we overcome it by doing some shots that we are not sure about !!!

Well I think day 63 works quite well , maybe a monochrome version perhaps !!

Chin up young lady !!

Thanks, Vince for your comments and suggestion - I will have a look at it in mono and see how it goes! Thanks for the encouragement! :)

Sam i am with you on the frustration... alot of my shots recently i have had to force myself to do... the inclination to set anything up has just done a runner, so i know how you feel...

But!........... i am with Tim here i really like it, capturing high streets and towns lately is quite a good idea, look back in a couple of years and it's quite possible it will all be different!....

Good one!... don't give up go buy chocolate instead!:D

Thanks, T, it does get to that stage sometimes and I work in two really boring places! Not intending to give up yet, though - too stubborn for that (and mostly enjoying it too much to). Thank you for your comments about the photo! :)

I do that as well Sam, take a couple of just in case shots - they have been used now and again :)

But then, being the nosy cow that I am, I like to see other peoples' High Streets and things :)

If I didn't take the just in case shots i'd have nothing to put up when my supposed masterpiece ends up looking like a piece of rubbish! Glad you like the photo Sarah! :)

Couple of nice candids Sam :)

Thanks, Jake! :)

I'd say really well done on getting out and doing some street photography. I have a real mental block with this one & feel too conspicuous, yet used to be happy to sit by a dual carriageway in a deckchair with a flask of tea photographing bike races with car drivers & passengers looking at me as if I was a nutter.

Thank you, Sarah - although I only do street photography in the sense that I will take a photo of a street!:lol: Every time anyone actually looks at me, i get my head down and move on, but I suppose I will feel more confident the more I do....it's also never been a real interest or passion for me, so I wouldn't normally take photos like that although I am racking up a few now (mainly through having few options) and might grow to enjoy it more over time. :)

No streets today, but I quite liked this brickwork and the background, kind of an abstract of sorts.....

Yep, I like it too. Kinda like a cloth rather than brickwork. Works for me, well spotted :)

oooh yes, I like that one too - I'm off into town today, so hoping to come back with at least something to show :)

Thanks, Tim - I hate those grey skies so restrict myself to things which don't feature it on grey days!

Is a nice abstract! Something you have an eye for! Nicely done!

Thanks, Jake, for your comments! :) I do quite like abstracty stuff!

Some wonderful stuff since I last called in, a real nice variety, I love the British Waterways photo  I can see there is some more that could be had from that location

Thanks, Matt, I'm also looking forward to getting further down the canal again - haven't been for a while! :)

I'll have a look out for what you found!

For goodness sake, does this drab and dreary NEVER end? #

Can't do anything with sky (:gag:), can't get out for long....all my skills and talents are meaningless in the mundane rubbish they have me doing while I run towards my redundancy....work in one of the most boring places on earth BUT can't remember a flower shot for a while, so as I don't buy them for the house too often....here's a flower or two in a pot or two!!

In other news of my day....WTF????

WTF???? by ~sammi~, on Flickr

This is the highest I have ever seen unleaded where I live....yet another demonstration of how my wages stay the same and my cost of living (essential due to where I work) rises at the same time :gag::'(

Sounds like a **** day Sam, but I like the image. Petrol was that price round here last week, but it's just dropped by 2p!!!! WOW a whole 2p :(

Yeah, it was....sometimes I think I'll never see sun again we've had so many dull and overcast days! Pleased you like the photo! :)

Love the tones in it, very nicely processed.

Petrol is very nearly the same price here now we're at about €1.53 a litre. It's more than doubled in 5 years :'( My money really doesn't go very far these days :(

The cost of living is just getting ridiculous and having permanent grey days makes it all the more depressing!:bang:

Thanks, Sarah! :)

I can remember near riots when petrol went up to just over £1, now we all have to just sit back and accept it :bang:

Thanks, T!:)

I was hoping to get out and about at the weekend, but just looked at the weather forecast.....heavy rain on Saturday and SNOW on Sunday :'(:'(:(

I like the flower shot Sam! Nicely done!
Petrol is 136.7p/l here. Still costs me around £70 a week. Stupid thirsty big petrol engines! Driving round town getting under 30mpg (I'm not a boy racer) does make a hell of a dent in my pitiful £7.50ph wage.

I don't remember ever seeing petrol at anything other than X.9p so the .7 must be a regional thing?

I only work about 15 miles away but it's on roads where people drive like they are in town and I can't get an even run so it sucks petrol :(

You'll just all have to come and visit me for the weekend, we are forecast good - can't wait :woot:

You have quite the vicious streak to you, don't you Sarah?? :naughty::lol::lol:

You have fun while I go to the attic to check whether I can find any other discarded toys!

I work the other side of town, but I work with my Mum so she drives normally. Poppy lives 60 miles away though, and I do that every weekend! When I have to bring here back for a weekend it's 240 miles before we even do anything! The .7p is only at ASDA here!

Bit of (lot of) a filler today as I haven't been out much. Didn't want an inside shot as I suspect I'll be doing that all weekend!!

Just riding out that frustration thing I mentioned earlier in the week. I know I will totally get back into this very soon, so in the meantime I'm making sure I get out there and keep looking about! :)

I liked these flowers and the raindrops on them so this is my 66:)

Like it Sam! May have been tempted to crop the flowers from the right though!

I'll try that now you pointed it out, missed it because I was cropping out a load of earth and dead leaves from the left!

Bit of a rough and ready crop. Thought about taking more off the top, but not sure whether to cut into the green leaf up there........

Better? Worse?

Like the brick abstract - well spotted!

I'd have been tempted to straighten shot 65 so the bottom edge of the table they are sat on went straight across the frame.

I also prefer the primrose crop shot, but would have liked to have seen you lying down on the muddy damp ground to get to the flowers level :D

Day 64...now that's a proper game of Jenga....lol....hardcore with real bricks ;).

Day 65 is a lovely little shot, well taken considering our weather is a bag of s*** at the moment, and love the colours on today's shot too, the crop certainly works hun :)

Yep, crop works and I like primulas as well, they look so bright, even in this s*h*1*t weather we are having.

They looked great against all the crappy everything else and, to be honest, I knew it wasn't the greatest shot but when some chav came out of Iceland and started taking the mick out of me, I KNEW it HAd to be my 365!!:lol:

I think I tried to do that but, for some reason it didn't work....might have another go in the morning because, now that you say it, it;s starting to annoy me. Thanks for that! :p

Thanks, Simon - the bricks were a gift, to be honest and I love the way they worked for me.

I think we all agree the crop works - I need to remember to take a second look before posting, but it's great that others pick up on things I didn't see so much. Loving the eyes of others!!! :)

Good sp Jake, I dont think I ever had as much hair as that, now I have none:shake:

Hair is completely over-rated!

...so that's what hair looks like ;)
