Every day this week at 8, I watch the encierro (or running of the bulls) which forms part of the San Fermín festival in Pamplona.

Amazing spectacle, and the atmosphere looks amazing, but you'd have to be nuts to do it surely?

Would you do this? I know lots of Americans tend to participate. I'd rather watch from behind a barrier!

No.. But I really did want to go see this when i was in spain.. but I was at the wrong side of country.... Your seeing it every day... jammy git! :)

I'd give it a go and if one got in me way, well I'd just:bang:it!!

thats the spirit haha :)

Just waiting for the cruelty mob to spot this thread ..they will... sure as owt :)

Yup, guaranteed. Always try to spoil what are traditional, historic and cultural events, then tuck into a big juicy burger at the barby. Hypocrisy to the fore:D:D

I'd love to see a real bull fight:cool:

Like I said, the atmosphere is amazing, and that's just via the TV!

Haha, I doubt you'd say that if you saw a "toro bravo" in real life! The steers they run with are even bigger than the bulls.

I'd rather we didn't turn this into a bullfight thread. That always gets messy!

Fill your boots with my Flickr account though:

I'd imagine it could get messy. I'm not gonna argue the rights and wrongs with it, I appreciate it's a very sensitive and emotive subject to some. Doesn't change the fact if given the opportunity I'd go and see it.

Thanks for the link to the pics. Very well captured.

Only banned in the Canary Islands and Cataluña.

Closer to home you can see Spanish style bullfights in the south of France too.

Run with the bulls - no way no how :D I think I'd even find La Tomatina in Buñol a bit scary

Hey, I've been married to a cow for 20 odd years and she's getting bigger all the time:naughty:

ive seen one in portugal, i think theyre slightly different though

Yeah, in Portugal they're not allowed to kill the bull in the arena. They're either killed afterwards (professionally) or have their wounds treated and are released. Can't say it appeals to me too much. It's gonna continue happening whether people like it or not

:D:p

Watched this on TV when in Spain on my honeymoon, cannot say its something I would like to take part in personally. (cannot run for toffee)

Back in Spain again on holiday this year so hopefully get to see some on the TV again.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

A friend of mine went and said it was for boys and butch Australian birds

Don't think I'd risk the camera there though ;)

Don't think I would either!

St Fermín only lasts a week. Other encierros just aren't the same.

I love your images as you know
And I know that some of the "fighters" (if not all) are rather up'emselves;)
so, I can never help but smile when "Enrique Ponce" is mentioned :D

I had to Google that and
WTF! :D

Hahahaha I'm surprised no one has ever mentioned that on my Flickr before. The word "Ponce" doesn't exist in Spanish, except as a surname, and the pronunciation is very different of course. As it happens he is my favourite. A man that just exudes style. He's very rich, has a beautiful wife and is also now a breeder of fighting bulls too.

Our local boy José María Manzanares is now one of the top toreros in the world and is a megastar in every sense of the word. He even appeared on the front cover (with photoshoot inside) of Vanity Fair recently.

I can't say that I haven't been tempted a couple of times :D

He seems to be doing very well for himself then ;)

Excellent

The one that amazes me, if that's the right word, is
Manuel Manzanares.
From the images at least, he doesn't even look Spanish.

He's José María's younger brother. It's a bit of dynasty. Daddy was a torero and grandpa a banderillero.

I went to see the bullfighting in Las Ventas in Madrid a few years ago, not really my cup of tea. The running of the bulls I'd go to see, but no way would I jump out in front of one of them. What an embarrassing and painful way to die that would be.

anyone who wants to chance their arm / arse with 500kg of very raw grumpy steak with sharp horns is a nutter (in my opinion.)

For those that are interested, some guy had a very lucky escape this morning!
I put an instagram video on my Facebook.

Not quite, but the guy was an idiot. The advice is, if you go down stay down. He didn't.

I always stay down until the job's finished...:p Oops - wrong thread!!!

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

This is the first day I haven't watched it live (just walked out of the health centre). After a run of good encierros I've had 2 friends message me to say that today's has been brutal with at least 2 serious gorings. They play a dangerous game these people.
Nervous about watching it now (I've recorded it).

Seriously, what the *****? Why would you want to risk that happening to you? That poor fool, he deserve everything he got. Hope he makes a full recovery, both physically and mentally! Then perhaps he'll see how stupid he was.

Bet travel insurance does not cover that injury to the American :p

I suppose it is a silly thing to do to run in front of such a big animal but there hundreds of thousands of people around the world doing much more life threatening stuff than that, free climbers, them winged flyers, divers going very deep, one wrong move and your dead or very seriously injured.

making me look forward to my holidays in Spain even more now, not to do this obviously.
