Every honest postie should be lobbying their employers to tighten up on this service. If I pay for RM/special delivery I want to know that the RM procedures are being adhered to.

Les has refunded the money so at this stage he is out of pocket. If suddenly the RM pops up and says its been signed for and they have proof they will not be compensating. Will Kryptix then hand the money back to Les, I doubt it.
Les will then show this thread to the RM and the postie will be dismissed because he will have signed a contract to say he will follow procedures.
Potentially Kryptix could walk away without loss, Les will lose the value of the lens and a postie will lose his job, all because the procedure HAS been twisted and made a mockery of.
Of cause all of this is hyperthetical and I am sure everyone will come out of it smelling of roses
In my 5 years as a postie i've never heard of a special delivery going missing in our office. Certainly nobody i work with would leave a special delivery on a doorstep or sign for it themselves. It's simply not worth losing your job over
SD's travel seperate to bulk mail and have to be bar code scanned at every stage. In our delivery office we have to sign them out in the morning and we have to sign them back in if we couldn't deliver them and had to leave a card. We also have to phone in by 1pm if we are still out on delivery with an undelivered SD so that the guaranteed online tracking can be updated.
Some of the delivery offices that people are mentioning in this thread sound pretty slack to me :shake:
Same here BTW. This is the first time anything was lost, even non-recorded items have always arrived safely!and to give Royal Mail it's due, this is the first time RM has 'lost' an item, over the years I've sent and received numerous items within the UK and the USA without any problem.
It came today at 9am apparently! My sister signed for it and left it on the side but I only just got told it was for me... I thought it was a random box!
He can't. Only the sender can lodge a claim.I'll provide any evidence/support to Kryptix if he wants to claim against RM for a damaged item.
He can't. Only the sender can lodge a claim.
The contract is between the sender and Royal Fail. Only the sender can instigate a claim against them.

And from the RM's terms and conditions
The sender or the recipient may both claim for a damaged item but only one will be paid compensation.
Their first line of defence will be that it wasn't packaged adequately. If it was damaged in transit then, by definition, the packaging wasn't up to the job. And I think there may be an issue with the fact that glass was insured. I think that's an exclusion. How can you show that a gritty focus ring was caused by the Royal Mail?
What would you all do it my position?
Hmm, my mistake - they've changed that at some point as it certainly used to be only the sender who could claim. That's factually incorrect, please check the RM's website for confirmation.
It makes perfect sense. Only the sender has any form of contract with the Royal Mail for delivery of the item. If they're now allowing the receiver to lodge the claim then fair enough but they're under no legal obligation to do so.And it doesn't make sense, how could I (as the sender) claim for a damaged item when I don't have the damaged item and/or can't provide evidence of the damage-it would be ridiculous for kryptix to send me the damaged packing (an empty box) just so I could make the claim.
Totally agree with fabs here, how about you actually discuss this privately with Les rather than asking the rest of us and criticising him in a public forum? What would you all do it my position?
Well I never mentioned it, I just said it had arrived. He decided to bring it up so there's no problem with me continuing it...
What!?Well I never mentioned it, I just said it had arrived. He decided to bring it up so there's no problem with me continuing it...
Well I left the box on the side last night and when I woke up it was already torn up by my nan. It's not as if it was intentional I lets be honest, I could damage the box myself if I was trying to pull a fast one. There was two dented corners as if it was dropped more than once, and a hole through to side of that packaging into the actual box meaning you could see the lens from the outside. On first thoughts I thought everythin was fine, but the manual focus is very 'gritty' like no other focus I've felt before. Now for all I know it's just a problem starting to occur so I'm reluctant to continue as normal. It is scary buying a 2nd hand lens and when it arrives damaged several days after it was meant to it is worrying. Before I paid I did say I'd like the option to return the lens if I'm not happy with it, and I think this is a fairly certain thing not to be happy about when buying a 2nd hand lens. I also don't like it that the whole claiming has been chucked over to me as soon as possibe. I wasn't the one who took use contract out and I know if I was the sender I'd deal with it all -- I'd feel harsh not to, even more so considering I was prepared to deal with the initial claim. I do like the lens and it may be fine, but it's a risk and I don't know why I should when I could just buy another 2nd hand lens. If the price was cheaper then I'd be tempted but I can't see the seller wanting to do that since it wasn't like that when he posted it, or at least that's what he said or that's his opinion -- you never know, we both may view the focusing issue differently, but like I said, I've used several lenses and they haven't felt nothing like this. It's almost as if sand or something has got into the focusing ring.
