Yes
I have been using RM special delivery for years now to get the £500 insurance for peace of mind.

However recently I had a package sent to me by RM and the packet was ripped and contents was ripped / damaged.

So I contacted RM chat to sort it out and basically it was not straight forward and involved getting a lot of proof and receipts etc....

Anyway I then thought well if I pay £10 - £20 to send expensive equipment and have no receipt of purchase ( i.e I bought it used or lost the receipt ) then if the item

gets damaged or lost will I be able to claim anything. And if it goes lost, how can I prove what was in the package and it value.

I'm curious because I get the feeling now that RMSP is only special in a very narrow set of circumstances, otherwise it is a waste of money and covers you for nothing

Isn't it for the sender to claim for damages as the contract is with them.

They never got back to my emails. I had zero compensation and seemed like nothing I could do about it apart from leave bad feedback

posted using RM special delivery,a Gitzo tripod after selling here, item was wrecked in transit, i got 6 1st class stamps as compensation, no longer use RM

Yes thank you. That is what I am talking about. They don't advertise exactly what is required openly on the advert so everyone buys it thinking they can easily claim upto £500

Royal Mail don't have to deal with you at all. Their contract is with the seller and it's the seller that has to make a claim. You should seek recompense from the seller.

As a business we used to use Special delivery a lot and on the couple of occasions that we needed to make a claim it was pretty straight forward. Of course they need some proof of the value of an item otherwise people could claim for anything.

I have used royal mail special delivery thousands of times.....a small percentage doesnt make it to the buyer... fil out a form online and show the reciept sent to buyer for what they bought and they refund the whole amount... and i resend the pics... so i get paid twice ...always quids in when summat goes missing :)

I did try, they ignored my email. it was a huge bookseller on ebay too, worldofbooks or something they were called

My experience is exactly the same as this. RMSD is very very reliable, it's the only service to guarantee on-time arrival, it's the easiest to use for valuable items, and the claims process is straightforward if you apply a bit of common sense. I would say it is "Special".

All you need for a claim is a a receipt for proof of postage, and an invoice to show value. However, only the sender will have said receipt so best to open a dispute on ebay, get your money back that way and then it's up to the seller to chase RM. On eBay it's always the sellers responsibility to reimburse customers for loss or damage in the post.

Claiming from RM - well The new online claim form is a piece of p***, lots of questions but in the end you wait about a week then a letter comes through the post with a cheque. Fortunately only had to claim a couple of times myself. At work we're on a really crappy contract with RM, we get a few pence off in exchange for having no insurance whatsoever or comeback if stuff goes missing.

We use RMSD a lot at work. Problems are very, very rare and when items have been lost, we have been fully compensated. We always claim, not the recipient, as we paid RM for the postage, so we have the contractual relationship with them.

only once had to claim a next day special delivery took 3 days to get to N.I ,it got there o.k in the end but I track every item sent so put in a claim for the full £11-00 for late delivery and got a cheque within a week
