Rooney to leave United - where will he go?

fergie said he didnt know why rooney would want to leave. i think its pretty obvious, utd arent the team they were back when they win the double, i cant see them winning much at all in the near future and i tink rooney wants to be part of a team who win tropheys, especially since thats what he got used to happening.

i love being right,

excerpts from rooneys statement:

During those meetings in August, I asked for assurances about the continued ability for the club to attract the top players in the world.

**For me it's always about wining trophies

Apparently Ipswich town have offered £50 million for him. He's not going though as he couldn't agree personal terms as there are no prostitutes left there.

Amazing how just a short time ago he was pledging his future to Man U, and how he wanted to be one of the long termers and revered players like Giggs, Scholes, Neville.

Such fickle fickle things footballers.... Now he's going to go elsewhere and be found out I suspect!

Yup a perfect example of the modern footballer when the going gets tough they get going, back in the old days players had the guts to stay and see their club through the bad times as well as the good.

As for where he is going its hilarious to suggest Spain I mean he has trouble speaking English no way will he learn a foreign language

Now he opens his mouth

Think alot of Man United fans will quickly turn on him now, surely sense said if you were going to want to leave and know he wouldn't sign a contract he should of done it in August or waited until December

Excerpts from Rooney's agents statement, can you really see Waynetta using language like that

I actually admire Rooney for coming out with the statement he did. He's nothing but respectful toward United and Sir Alex Ferguson. It's obvious he's not happy about being a team that is being strangled financially by American owners. I think the damage has been done though.

No player should say that about his club, that's for a manager to say. How can he think he dictates a team of man united's stature's stance in the transfer market? Oh and btw i hate man u :p

utd want to handle this carefully, they need to not **** him off because if he wants to he can buy himself out of his contract for 5 million and go wherever he likes with utd getting not a penny more.

That would be the most pleasing result for me being a liverpool fan :D

united will have their eye on torres without a doubt. The next few months liverpool need to do a 180 and start winning else he'll easily be poached away

If this was going on 12 months ago then I could have seen Torres being a target. Not sure anymore though.

i could only see torres going back to spain

Think you're probably right. Summer tends to be the time for 'big' moves but as he's cup tied for CL football and Liverpool out of contention for a major trophy I think he will go in January.

There are only 2 clubs in the country that can afford Rooney - so it's either Man City of Chelsea.

My moneys on Man City.

I wouldnt like to say who would replace him, Benzema possibly, off the beam possibly but Ibrahimavic from Barcelona who is on loan at present, think there is a 24mil option on him which is cheap considering Barca signed him for £60 mil IIRC

How much of the Ronaldo money did Man United get to spend?

Same thing will happen with any money they get for Rooney.

i'm not into footy never have been, never will do, but surely he will go wherever the wages will be best, after all he is self employed?

Think the fans need to lay off him in all honesty

he wants to move on, he has been honest about it, they need to accept it and move on and let him go. Its far better than not knowing why he isn't performing this season IMO

I don't really get the whole whoohar either, particularly holloways reaction which was very amusing given his west country accent.

At the end of the day rooney is an employed man doing a job. He wants to do it somewhere else for whatever reason. No matter what it is, it's his choice.

The only certainty in affairs concerning Mr Rooney is that he will have VD by the end of the year.

why is it strange?, hes gonna go where the cash is, surely.

It's strange because your first post on a photography forum is in the off topic part about wayne rooney.

Come on, own up - you are alex ferguson in disguise aren't you!!!

Holloway talks more sense than the rest of them put together,if you analyse what he says rather than making West Country Yokel insinuations you might learn something

(And no I am not from the West Country)

ok, ok ma wee laddy (sorry to all scots, totally rubbish i know) och aye its me. lol

sorry joe wasn't been funny or anything, but yeh it does seem strange when i think about it, right off for some photography thingymebob.

Here are some parts I listened to and what I learned

"Man Utd have helped wayne rooney's career on and off the field"

Yeah and Rooney has helped them win tropheys and sell merchandise. The club aren't the victim here at all, Rooney's career at Utd has been a completely mututallly beneficial agreement. This whole club is the victim thing is ridiculous. They paid their money for him they got a lot of use and they stand to make money when they sell him in January.

"If my car went over a certain age and I bought it off a garage I wouldn't expect that garage to be able to come and take it back off my drive for nothing"
"You buy a house, you own the deeds ... what if it's 24 years you've had it for and then it can toddle off and do what it likes?"

What the hell is he on about? You can't compare a human being to physical objects. You can't own a player in the same way you own a house or a car. I think he's mixing up his points here as well. The 24 age thing for the bosman ruling is that if his contract ends and he's over 24 then he can walk away. If a contract with a car ended and you'd had it the same amount of time - you could do the same. A contract is a contract and once it is over then it's over.

The webster rule is the one where he can buy himself out with a year left. Same as with a mobile phone or a car if he wants to compare it to inanimate objects

"It might be a rant, it might be quite funny to watch"

It is funny to watch.

I only seen some of the interview tbh but my first impression was Idiot

it has nothing to do with him, yes he has an opinion but no one will know what went on behind closed doors at Man U

Remember the likes of Beckham, Van Nistlerooy? there will be something happened behind closed doors that we will probably never find out

Rooney IMO is right with what he mentioned to about not matching his ambition, they seem to be on a downward spiral ATM and they haven't bought any world class player since the sale of Ronaldo

If you watch the whole interview Holloway is commenting on the Rooney situation but his rant against the administrators of world football who have allowed the Bosman and Webster rulings to stand, they are the lunacy that have lead to the situation we now have whereby Rooney and others can dictate where and when they can move irrespective of what their existing club has done for them

Rooney, although a I hate the bloke, is a brilliant footballer. He went to Manchester Utd with a vision of what his future would be, and for a number of reasons, the job isn't what was on the "job spec".

He was going into a team, at the top of it's league in one of the most competitive leagues in the World. He expected the club to go on from there, to continue rivalling the likes of Real Madrid & Barca. In truth, he's seen less investment in the club, his main strike partner has left, and now Chelsea look like they will dominate for a few years, plus Man City are also "on par" with their rivals across town.

He doesn't like what he sees for the future and wants to get out while he can, plus he knows that his Manager will be on his way soon, who has been a mentor for him in the last 6 years. In effect, he has out grown the club.

Where could he go ? Well Man Utd won't sell him to an English club, so I personally reckon that if he does go he'll end up in Madrid. He likes the Manager, the Manager likes him, he can pair up with his old strike partner and it is the most successful club in the world.

And I'm a Gooner, so have no real interest in him, but I think moving to Spain will make him a better player and will do his International career nothing but good.

Firstly Rooney was a brilliant footballer and the jury is out as to wether or not he will ever be that good again and secondly he has OUTGROWN the club, please Man Utd is bigger and will remain bigger than Rooney will ever be.
Players come and go but the club goes on.In addition Rooney is typical of many modern youngsters let alone footballers, when the going gets tough they try to get out.

And I am not a Utd fan in any way shape or form

OK, let me rephrase...

His ambitions have outgrown those of the club...

He's unhappy there, that's obvious, and none of us want to do a job in which we are unhappy. As for his injury, he'll be back. He's young and strong, I think his only issue will be trying to do too much too quickly.

There is nothing wrong with the bosman ruling. At the end of a contract why shouldn't the player be allowed to move to another club. Why should it be any different to other jobs where people are headhunted then given a contract if it's been fulfilled then they have the right to move. A club demanding you can't go and play for another when you are under no legal obligation to them is ridiculous, and I'm pretty sure Holloway would shut his mouth if he'd signed joe cole this summer on a free instead of liverpool.

thats a falicy. United are a business they are there to make money and are massively in debt. They'll sell to the club that has the highest offer that suits them, they aren't going to cut of their nose to spite their face.

Yes they are a business, and in business you do not sell your major assets to a direct competitor. Selling Rooney to another UK club (well Chelsea or City) will put Utd even further behind them, it doesn't make good business sense unless they pay well over the odds so you can get a better or multiple replacements.

City have more strikers than the rest of the Prem League put together, and he'll never be able to have a night out in Manchester if he went there. Chelsea have got an excellent strike force already, I'd rather have Drogba than Rooney in my side. If he went to Chelsea they would have problems with Drogba and/or Anelka.

Madrid is the obvious move, for both clubs and Rooney...

Some of the reasons you have stated for the move not happening to chelsea and city are right ... but if either of those clubs put a better offer into united then they aren't going to turn them down. They'll pick the best offer which I think will in fact be from abroad because they are likely to get a player in return.

They had no problem with losing Tevez to Man City.

However Drogba is not the future of chelsea, he's 31. Rooney has 7 years on him so chelsea are going to be interested in strengthening the younger players for the future too.

Rooney also has a say in this, he won't just go to a club because united tell him to. He might want to stay in manchester, saves him having to move house. Hasn't Colleen got a sibling in a hospital in the uk too, might want to be close to that as well.

those european clubs are rivals too on the champions league stage.

Ha ha, funny. Watch all the utd fans who were slagging him off and saying he wasn't bigger than the club now do uturns on everything they said.

Talk about a mountain out of a molehill

I'm glad cos it means they'll be less likely to poach torres!
