Robs 52 for 2010 - Week 17 Peace

And I was so looking forward to this week as well. This will be reshot, completely). Question, how and when do people find the time for hobbies?

What with work and family life there was actually an occasion this week where I've gotten into bed and suddenly though "I haven't eaten today"

Anyway, this is my submission, I'm very disappointed with it as it's a total 'cop out' BUT, it's a submission so that's 8 for 8 so far :D

It's a crop of a shot I took last year at the Buckingham Railway Museum.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to work for the 7th day this week :(

Well done for getting a shot to fit the theme under extreme circumstances, Rob. :)

It's not bad considering you've had to rummage through your back catalogue and it's a crop. Most of the detail is there, if a little soft in places. And it certainly makes for an interesting composition.

Sorry to hear work is getting in the way, it can be damned inconsiderate like that sometimes. I'm so looking forward to retiring (or winning the lottery) :)

Finding time can be hard work in its self. It fits the theme so look forward to the next theme and hopefully find some time.

Just had a look through all of your shots. You are doing well.

Finding time is half the battle with this 52 lark and it sounds like you've had a nightmare week.

But you managed to get a shot in . . . no idea what it is, but it certainly looks mechanical and it's a nice sharp shot.
 Well done on keeping up to date and I think you've actually got a good image there too.

I like the texture in this one Rob. A big chunk of steel that's been stamped.

I too am feeling the pinch of not having enough hours in the day at the moment. Fortunately, it's time spent at a computer so I can get the comments in even if I can't get the shots going.

Hope things ease up for you soon.

Ian.

Rob, well done for getting something in, that's on theme, and good too, under the circumstances.

Work and spare time - too much of one and too little of the other. It's a bugga, insn't it!

Well done on getting this in under your current circumstances, Rob. It's well on theme, interesting but...what is it?

Thanks for all the positive comments. I've really struggled this week and was very downheartened when I realised I wasn't going to get 'out and about'. I don't think I've even looked at my camera this week. Anyway, hopefully I'll get some time over the weeke ...... :( nope, working Sat and Sun (again) :(

You have done really well getting all images in on time  and will be able to buy some more kit with all this work/overtime you are putting in ;)

Thanks Shaun,

Sadly even if the tax man didn't take his share no amount of money could buy me time and inspiration, two things I am really lacking at present :(

time?.. now thats a thing i'd love to have plenty of :) had all sorts of grand plans myself this week, but only got as far as my garage!

it certainly fits the theme.. nicely focused and like the crop..

Well done for getting an image posted on time! It certainly fits the theme, though I'm not sure what I'm looking at, but I like some of the textures in there :)

What is it with work eh! Always in the way - same for me (again) this week.

Well done on getting something in though Rob. I find it an interesting shot - nice textures.

It works for me - subtle shapes, textures and colours add up to an interesting image.

Thanks to you all for your words of encouragement and for taking the time out to stop here, look and comment.

Anyway, this weeks offering is exceptionally opportunistic, I happened to be passing these guys and they were begging to be photographed.

Week 9 PLAY

Read what people had to say and decided to butcher the shot in elements.
I tried a B&W conversion but for me it lost it's appeal. Anyway, here's my attempt at brightening things up and yes, it is a little soft, in fact every photo I have taken with the 50D appears so :(

Nice opportunistic shot.

It looks a bit wonky to me though and a little soft.

And if you fancy it, it might be up for a nice conversion to B&W. Increase the saturation on your colour shot to make that grass really green, then convert and turn the green as dark as you can to pull those lambs out of the picture. Problem is that you'd lose that lovely colour in the sky.

I like this shot. Simple and effective and the composition works for me.

Ian.

What a great grab shot... Love the way #41 has glanced over it's shoulder at you as you took it. Clearly at play and on theme.

It does look wonky, it may not be I guess, but the skyline does tip to the right. I don't think it'll make any difference to the image if it's straightened for aesthetic purposes though.

Lovely shot - it has that 'feel good factor' makes me think that spring can't be too far away!

ha I have such a dirty mind when i first saw the top of the lambs it looks as if one is on top of the other rumpy pumpy etc
fits the theme perefectly i assumed it was on a hill hence the slope !

You've brought out the sky and grass nicely in the edit but you've left the lambs with a bit of a colour cast now which needs correcting. Also looking a bit dark overall. Nicely caught and composed though. They do look like they're enjoying whatever there is of Spring :)

:gag:

Now you're expecting miracles :cuckoo:

I'll see what I can do but tbh it looks ok on my monitor (but then it's only a laptop)

Hahaha - I'm with Bob - my first thought was #41 was just about to pounce !!

Good shot. Nothing says Play like a couple of lambs in the Spring (all we need now is the Spring!)

I see lamb and #41 and the first thing that comes into my mine is an Indian takeaway menu :D. It's great to see lambs playing in the field

I want one for my back garden, he'll have all the grass he wants.

I'd call him Minty :naughty:

Awwwww - that's really made me smile :D
Even if it is still flipping freezing, I feel like Spring might just be on its way!

Great spot and great capture - I like the way that no.41 is peeking back over his shoulder at you too.

I agree that the original looked a little soft, but you've brought some of that back in the edit. The colours and the straightening give that one much more zing too.
While it might not be technically perfect, that's more than made up for by the feel good factor. And for a spur of the moment, opportunistic shot I think it's got lots going for it.

I'm also with Bob, had a dirty mind too... haha.

Nicely shot, fun image.

Well done!

Nice opportunist shot, made so much better by your edit.

Thanks guys. I'm 'losing it a little' at present and not really concentrating or giving myself enough time, this doesn't come easy so your words of encouragement really help and hopefully I'll be able to focus more on this 52 m'larky in a week or so when things start to calm down at work.

Week 10 Chemistry.

I spotted this sign whilst mooching around somewhere I shouldn't have been. sadly it's one of those shots that looked far better in my head. Having said that I kinda like it. PP consists of a b&W conversion and the addition of a little noise for atmosphere. Perhaps some subtle useage of a shoehorn is required in order if fit the theme ?

Yes, probably a little shoehorning, but an image that I like, nonetheless.
I think it could have been rather mundane, but the b&w conversion and the addition of noise not only adds atmosphere but also age - it looks as if it could have been shot back in the sixties or something.

Given your present work woes, you're doing great to get good stuff in:thumbs:

I like this a lot Rob. I'm not sure there's a crowbar large enough, but the subject is interesting and the treatment you've given it really adds some character. Nice job

Not sure it needs a large crowbar... no more than my astro image anyway... I really like it Rob... the feel is excellent. Only one thing leaps out at me.. the bright dot on the right hand side... I think it's distracting and pulls my eye straight to it...

Thanks guys. I'll admit to being quite pleased with it myself can't put my finger on why though - does that happen often ?

Hi Rob, I'm ashamed to say this is the first time I've managed a visit to your 52 - but I've really enoyed the journey so far. :) I also think that with the hours you work, you deserve a medal just for getting ideas about shots, never mind getting the shots themselves.

Some of my favourites are the Poetry theme (both the photo and the poem - excellent) the Lego men, (how much patience can one man have!) and the lambs for Play (although I was a little worried when I read your comment starting "Read what people had to say and decided to butcher ... " I was expecting the next shot to be a plate of lamb chops.

and to catch up:

Chemistry - this shot works really well, and I think it's largely down to your excellent processing. The noise is nicely judged and, tbh, I didn't spot the spot until John drew my attention to it. :D So what if you've got the Crowbar of the Week Award - it's still a good shot.

Jean
