Alas it seems updating my Camera Raw in CS5 to match my 5Dmk3 has brought with it an issue. The issue did not rear its ugly head until the purchase of an 85mm 1.8 primarily for shooting portraits a lot of which will be from f2-2.8. After some testing it turns out that this lens was manufactured by Cadburys ( such is the amount of purple ) and i now have no sliders to remove the fringing in Camera Raw , the profile auto and defringe options have very little effect in melting the chocolate. I cannot roll back to previous versions as the 5d3 was not supported and i do not believe CS5 supports newer versions.

Are there any great solutions out there to fast removal of PF without destroying other parts of the photo or farting around painting stuff out , or am i going to be forced into purchasing a new version of PS.

The reason you have excessive purple is because your lens is heavily front focusing or you have some insanely bright highlights across the frame. Avoid both and you are good to go. At f/2.8 it should actually be very clean already.

You can still defringe it; just use the eyedropper tool in CA module of Camera Raw or use 'replace colour' once importer to photoshop.

You should hire 85 / 1.2L. That is even more Cadburys like.

The issue is happening regardless of focus with anything from highlights from reflective surfaces to the reflections in people eyes , example attached shot at F2 it goes away by f2.8 but that sort of defeats the point of the lens so i need to know if the lens is a dud or i can find a good way of correcting for it. Going to give the eyedropper tool a go now and see how that goes thanks for the advice :)

That's normal. Like I said you'd throw 1.2L and most other fast primes to the bin.

Btw. These are extreme highlights. If you shoot mainly these things perhaps 100mm macro L is a much better choice?

Tried the eyedropper but does not work in ACR as the fringing options have been removed , replace colour works in ps but is fiddly and is taking colours from elsewhere in the shot. Strangely i am actually considering the 100mm 2.8L ! but i dont do this stuff that much some ring shots and cars etc at weddings but to be honest lots of shots have highlights and i am just not used to lenses being this bad. I have taken exactly the same shot with my new 35 F2 IS at F2 and there is NO purple whatsoever. Is the 100mm L free of this issue ?

Thanks for the help !

You could also try one of the other raw processors such as Darktable and Raw Therapee etc. And use them only for that purpose.

I was expecting it on the edge, not on the highlight?

Lightroom has some decent profiles for lenses which I use to take out my fringing. Worth trying? They usually have a trial.

Yeah.. realised that after posting. Just forgot to edit.
