Recommend me a Coffee Machine

Odd, I spent 4 hours reading reviews for nespresso and tassimo and there were lots of complains about using a small cup in the machine to pour into a mug and it only did espresso style coffee.

The joy of online reviews - they can be written by idiots :(

Ignore my previous info then :)

;)

I read the same reviews before I bought one and, as soon as I got it, wondered what on earth they were on about!

The first thing I think I read about the Krups Nesspreso machine was that it had an adjustable cup stand to take different sized cups!

It does look like a good machine and one that would fit my needs, however it is a bit more expensive than I was hoping to pay!

read post #23 for quick foam
Thanks, somehow I missed that tip in my first read

Nespresso - great for espressos, but thats about it. Cup size is limited.

Tassimo - a tiny bit behind Nespresso for pure coffee, but they have licensed the p.......

FWIW I wanted a machine that I could turn on, and end up with a hassle-free cup after a minute, I thought the tassimo might be that.

However, I was curious as to how the system worked, I found a vid on youtube, it took 4 minutes, and changing cartridges to produce a latte? Doesn't seem quite so simple as I was hoping.

4 minutes, I cannot remember it being that long when we had a Tassimo but I mainly just used single coffee.

anyways here is a Dolce vid I did for someone on another forum, quite a bit less than 4 minutes..

???? where did the delete post option go

dont think there ever was one for us lowly mortals

only the all-seeing Mods............

so I just delete my post contents and say whooops....:D

it doesn't waste any milk. Only the amount required. Also when you are done u can put the container in the fridge again but only do this for a day or 2. When u want to clean it take it apart and stick it in the dishwasher :D dead easy. the pods work out at about 28-30p a pod for nespresso once u buy them. I would only buy them from nespresso tbh. Really easy and best coffee ever. The tassimo uses powdered milk and u can taste the difference. A woman in work has one and i would deff rather have mine. Also u can preset the nespresso machines to suit ur own cup!

The nespresso pods look to be ~80p per cup?

Hi

No, between 29p and 35p depending on which one you go for and if it's a special edition combination flavour.

appreciate your initial thoughts and no i have not read the other 50 posts, but we have a nespresso.

Does the job for me. I only use the 9/10 and 10.10 strength ones though.

When we first got it, I was so impressed I think I made 7 or 8 espresso's straight off and drank them all.... didn't sleep much that night!!!

The Bosch Tassimo doesn't use powdered milk it uses it's own filtered milk.

Personally, I was nearly sold on the Nespresso. The major negatives for me were the initial cost of the machine, can't get the pods in supermarkets (like the Bosch), George Clooney advertising it :p but most of all the Nestle connection (Nestle Boycott...baby milk in the third world etc)

I have a senseo machine but haven't bought pods since for ages. I got a coffee duck adapter that lets me use real coffee in it. Fantastic :)

Did the OP buy a coffee machine in the end???

If not another vote for the Nespresso, have had mine for years and swear by them, good enough variety, great customer service and never had a fault yet!

Only reason I say good custoemr service is that when I enquired about some limited editions they did a year or two back they sent me a sleave of each FOC :)

A lot quicker
A lot easier
A lot less mess

The three main reasons that spring to mind

We have a bean to cup machine and to be honest I think it has a Nespeesso machine beaten for conveniance. We fill it with beans about once a fortnight (takes 1 min), water every two of three days (takes 30 secs) and empty grinds once a week (another 30 secs). it has to be cleaned once a month which involved putting a tablet in it and leaving it to itself for 5 mins.

To use it we have to press one button. From what I have seen it have seen it's a lot quicker to actually make the coffee than a Nespresso.

It was a lot more expensive than a Nespresso but it's MUCH cheaper to run.

Nespresso machines are like inkjet printers they sell them as a loss leader to hook you into an ongoing cost! That's why they'll send out samples of new blends for "free".

Serious coffee fiend here, With regard to the Pod machines, I have had a lot of Senseo/Nespresso/Tassimo pod coffee, and find them to be washed out in terms of flavour. Yes it is slightly easier to clean and use, but i find the hassle of washing out my machine to be a small price to pay for better tasting coffee. I run a machine running on 18bar pressure, and use either home ground beans or pre ground espresso. I only drink espresso, and nothing with milk, so am a fan of a real dark bitter coffee.
For most people a pod machine will be ample, but i think if you are really into your coffee, its best to get as close as you can to a full barista setup.

I've killed about 3 coffee machines over the last couple of years including a senseo, a delonghi one and I cant even remember the name of the other (I drink at least 15-20 double espressos a day). I gave up in the end and bought a jura C5 bean to cup machine (http://www.amazon.co.uk/JURA-Impres...SJ9Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323295512&sr=8-1) - its pretty much self cleaning and can cope with my usage. I am loving it and its so much nicer than pods - I get the coffee sent from garraways as well and the smell just makes me drool.

I have a feeling (Next left a message on our answering machine) that my fiancee has bought me one of these for Xmas.

What you guys think?

Sorry, but you have a problem and need to seek help if that is true.

That's 4,000mg of caffeine.

Can't be surely?

I'd be having serious stomach problems if I even had three!

Just ordered myself a Delonghi ec710, thermometer, stainless steel jug and various coffee beans, can't wait for it all to arrive :)

I get headaches if I dont drink coffee but have been drinking it since I'm about 6 years old so pretty much used to it. I get the stomach problems if I drink instant coffee - that stuff is disgusting and should never be called coffee. The coffee machine is on from when I get up at 5.30 to when i go to bed at about 1am. I just love the taste - and coffee is fat free (no sugar or milk as that ruins the taste). But yep I do probably drink a little too much but meh you've got to do things you enjoy.

I am and do not mind admitting to being a coffee addict, 30+ a day and thats after cutting down.. I am up around 6am and get through a dozen shots by 8ish then onto 2-3 an hour, its easily done.

Think you might also be addicted to caffeine!

Yes the OP did end up getting a coffee machine, or more accurately my wife bought one for me!

She got me this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4233880/Trail/searchtext%3EDELONGHI+PRODUCTS.htm

and I have to say I love it! My one small gripe would be that there isn't much clearance under the espresso outlet or under the steam outlet but i've worked out ways round that.

Nice one! Hope you've been enjoying your new coffee machine, Leslie.

My other half did indeed get me the coffee machine linked to above and I have to say it's very good, especially for the money I have to say.

A question to all those who use an espresso machine though. Which coffee do you find works best for lattes and how much do you tamp the coffee into the filter (if at all) to get the best result?

Ian :)

I dont agree, nespresso coffee machines isn't so bad as everybody think, the capsule is making from fresh coffee and it is made very tight. In general its very cheap way to have good and profesional taste coffee.

All the links above have expired so I have no idea what you all have.

I'm retired so have time and bought one of these
http://www.lakeland.co.uk/31818/De'Longhi-Dedica-Coffee-Machine-Black-EC685BLK

about 2 years ago and paid £150 for it. I also bought a Krups burr grinder.

Yes its a little bit of a faff but I like the coffee I produce (cappuccino) and if working I would probably go for nespresso. My son has one
but I think the freshly ground tastes much better,

The delongi makes a nice coffee and has a small footprint. It also take the teabag style pods which taste awful.

When it wears out I might splash the cash and buy something a bit more automated, probably with 18 bar pressure.

prefer coffee black so a cafetiere is all that is needed. Good quality coffee makes all the difference.
not sure why anyone likes steamed milk.
