weekly Reanimated 52 - Fit/Water added... 2013 done.

Looks like normal boradband service has been restored. As such, I'll try and catch up on everyone's work.

I have a 'proper' Beginnings shot, but I can't post it at the moment (just trying to build up the mystery, there). In the meantime, here's a placeholder sketch continung my experimentation with square crops for impact:

Beginnings by ReanimatedImagery, on Flickr

Handheld macro in a half crouch looking up at the underside of a leaf in a windowbox. The wee beastie was about half an inch long in reality.

whooah - he's a little cracker there - (the baby caterpillar), lovely colours (see there's a less saturated version on flickr - but this one for me), the hairs are in perfect focus and creating a little starburst effect before you get led up to his face and see he's drinking from a tiny droplet - confirming the size. well done.

liking the connection of mother and child - colours again working really well there. and a definate connection.

Hi Tony

Now there's a cute little furry fella.....beginning of a new life works for me ,great DOF with cracking detail in the fur....love it

& yeah....a picture of the Connection with the lightning between the fingers would be good if you don't mind

Connection - as I said in my thread, you (unknowingly) snookered yourself for beginning with your "creation" abstract. :D but I prefer the mother and child one anyway...

Come on then where's the PROPER beginning shot?

Thanks all

Couple of quick still sketches till I get out to shoot the proper one. First, thinking about the quality of stillness:

And secondly, a rather more direct take:

Superstition by ReanimatedImagery, on Flickr

If that second one was going to be the real one, I'd probably crop into the top the catch the light but lose the back label showing through.

ETA: Here's the shot with the lightning - as you can see, I didn't really shoot with it in mind; if I had, I would have left a larger gap. As it is, the spark doesn't register enough and just distracts from the simplicity of the shapes. IMO, anyway.

anyhoo, it wasn't completely finished, just a couple of layers of glow etc.

Thanks, Sarah.

My last idea for Still hasn't worked out due to a variety of horrible personal and work things eating up time. However, all is not lost as one of the shots from a photoshoot this week has turned out to fit the bill quite nicely.

By The Dawn's Early Light

So I'm now torn between that one and a lizard. Possibly the mirror one, seeing as Sarah liked it so much.

Hi Tony

the portrait for Still has a real ghostly feel to it & I find myself constantly going back to it....the only thing I'm not keen on is the spot of light in the dark eye....seems a little too fake maybe

By Dawns Early Light really hits the spot for me though...can't pinpoint quite why but really liking it

Hi Tony,

I really like the way you have captured the sunlight on the models face. Brilliant.
Would a crop losing the excessive right hand side thus making the model the main feature improve the image.

Really like it.

Lots of images there and all very good (as always), but for me I think the mirror one too - mostly just because its just a little unsettling.

That still shot.....wow....just wow. I think its totally stunning. I am not entirely sure it fits the theme (having said that I still have no idea what I am going to shoot!), but its awesome

I like the still shot with the model, it really looks like she is having a moment of calm and stilling her mind... I would have liked to see more of her chest! - please ignore my schoolboy humour - I just think the bottom edge is a bit high (compositionally). Nice one. :)

Hi Tony :)

Gawd I really need to practice my PS skills (which are currently limited to cloning only :D) that's great, lots of good detail/thought in this, the focus point on the branch is spot on for the young lads positioning, the text and the splash of colour with the apple - Nice One

lol, thats harder than you make out - well done on both nice idea and execution.

Cracking job - lots of people can't get their heads round layers and masks, I still can;t always remember which way white and black works!!!

Great idea and the font and the text works really well.

I just took all the elements except the baby in the same light :) .

One thing... I see no baby.

Hard to pick a favourite for Still. I love the lizard shot, perfect DOF, and lovely light and colours, but there's something about the B&W portrait that I really like, probably the eyes and the expression. It's not what I'd expect to see, but there's a stillness implied in it, and it works.

Whimsical is great. Bang on theme, and a really quirky, smart image. Inspiring stuff.

I really like by the dawns early light, I think it is a very calm image and fits still perfectly.

Whimsical, very nice interpretation.

Hi, whimsical, well done

Well processed and lovely light.

Great idea behind the photograph.

Cheers.

What Andy said Tony

I admire your creative thinking on these themes, good work

Same here - I was about to suggest those three too!

If I had to choose one it would be High Curve

Hi Tony

Whimisical........can't add anything to what's already been said....cracking idea , well shot & put together......as always from you

Now...what are these masks you talk about.. I really do need a training session on pp !

Curve....High curve for me as well...only viewing on netbook which might explain the slight bluey purple cast...or is it really like that ?

great ideas through these tony,

love the sharp focus on the hay bales with the softer sky beyond, purpling around the strands (CA)? draws the eye somewhat..

Curved light, Brian will love this, if he manages to make a few more mouse clicks to find his way in here!! :naughty:

I'm put off high curve a bit by the purplish in there too.

so I'm going to have low curve as my pick... great lighting, and the composition is spot on too. really having the look of the leading edge of an aeroplane wing, which I prefer to the more angled position of high curve.

Damn quick and a nice shot too, great pp on the sphere - quick get it on the photos thread :)

First of all, your Power :bat: and ggrrrrr :D

Like it. Well composed and executed. The blue hue takes it up a level IMO, as does your expression.

I always like to give crit and find at least one 'fault', but none on the one

Curves, good set. I'm strangely drawn to #3, but I'll opt for #4.

Cheers and ggrrrr again ;)

Cheers, Andy and John. The nice thing about this, for me, is that the lighting set up with almost unconscious. That means that the flash lighting has now reached the same level for me as stage lighting - I.e I can set it up for the effect without thinking about the technicalities. I wasn't able to gel the little flash that's off camera below him to provide the uplight, so had to add the blue tint in post. It also meant I had to darken the outside of his hand and lighten the inside to give a credible source for the light.
