Genuine question!

Do people not read posts in this section, and instead just look for fights?

Historically I haven't posted much in this section, I assumed it was the place to come for 'light hearted banter', but it appears to be the place people come to be outraged or bullied.

People think the business section is 'tough' but it's an absolute playground compared to this. It appears to me people come here 'to get picked on'.

I'd add more detail, but I don't think I can without offending anyone. :)

I'm outraged that you'd post such a post - did you not think of the children (and the kittens)

It's a funny ol' place, that's for sure.

The logical fallacies and competitive rhetoric are quite amusing, as is the aggressive wriggling when challenged on something.

The 4th. form debating society tactics do get a bit tiresome, and some clearly prefer to argue than to see another point of view.

On the whole though, it's often more entertaining than watching TV.

I'd expect nothing more than drivelfrom such lefties...

Yeah, it does seem that quite a few only read things to see if they can take it the wrong way and get narky about it

Can I sit in the corner with the popcorn early.. Please it is Friday [emoji5]️

Get's a bit lively, but nothing, for instance, that's ever prompted me to hit RTM. :-)

there's been the odd thing that's prompted me to hit an alternative button though...

Seriously folks - if you seriously can't just ignore someone posting things on a screen, press the ignore button and let the machine filter it out for you...

We really do have better things to be doing on a Friday night than dealing with grown adults having a childish strop!

Oooh don't leave us in suspense, we want to know :D

You may sit on my knee and do anything you wish (I do have strong legs:eek:).

Someone once said "We never really listen to others, were just waiting to get our view across.

Yeah, I've heard something similar and I'm sure it's true.

I find I can often tell when someone is not listening to me but is thinking about their response.

It happens a lot here.

It would help if people, who clearly don't have an effin scooby what they're talking about, didn't try to make out they did and spout pish all the time.

There are so many replies....[emoji14][emoji14]

Forum would close through lack of posts [emoji6]

People start threads about current affairs and people with different views join into the discussion. These can get heated.

You see it on a lot of internet boards. Its not unusual.

Heated isn't the issue - I love a debate, it's people not reading what has been written but looking for some way to twist it. It's childish.

I'm well aware of the drivel that gets posted beneath news stories and the like - I largely stay away from them, they're full of sick little people looking for excuses to spew their poison. This is a forum full of people with one thing in common, which I'd assumed required a certain level of intelligence.

In short - I expected better :)

So would I but let's be honest, photographers here (and I include myself in this) are hobbyists. There's a few pros but the bulk are hobbyists.

Photography is a very popular hobby and to take mediocre images requires b****r all intelligence and thought. To take a good image technically merely requires the photographer to understand lighting, composition and exposure. Pretty basic intelligence level IMHO. Using software where there are video tutorials everywhere again isn't pushing any intelligence barriers.

A truly clever person might go the artistic route (there's no doubting @Pookeyhead) is clever and use photography to express emotions, meaning etc and create "art". Bit that's only one form of intelligence.

Some here take photos to make a living. It's requires skill, determination and patience.

But ask yourself this, does the technical skill set a high bar intelligence wise? I personally don't think it does.

You're right (you might want to bookmark this) ;)

Clearly I expected too much.

But its catch 22 - you [generic 'you'] say member X is twisting what you said, whilst member x is moaning that you are twisting what he/she said - and so the spiral twists downwards and no one listens [reads] to anyone properly, all too busy trying to get their own point across whilst putting your own interpretation on what others are saying.

So, we could just go back to no political threads [they being the worse threads for such behaviour, though by no means exclusively], but to be very honest, we would rather everyone behaved like adults and stepped back when it is obvious how things are going. We don't want to have to moderate [and definitely not on a friday night when its been a mad week a new camera needs playing with/pubs need visiting/bottles of wine need drinking/etc] but it does get very frustrating when long standing, and otherwise extremely good members who contribute so well around the forum get SO wound up by stuff. It isn't worth it, close the thread, go and read something else or do something else. if everyone applied this practice, there wouldn't actually be a problem.

I think I'd already decided to go back to ignoring this section exists Yv, but I'm not standing for anyone slagging off the business section. It's like a comfy old pub, there might be some 'characters' but in comparison this place is more like a town centre bar, the music is too loud and no-ones listening to anyone else, everyone's calling everyone else's pint a poof, accusing them of looking at their bird etc.

I know I just used a derogatory term, this is not my language, I used the expression in context, if you read the...

forget it.

Phil, you`re better off staying away mate.

I'm not one for blondes usually...

...but I make an exception in this case.

Beautiful.
