So this PC is over 4 years old, and I decided it was time for its, and my, first re-installation of XP.
Had to buy a new rom drive it wasn't reading disks, alls well with that.
So I install from a gen XP home disk, except when its finished, I must have cocked up somewhere.
Its an 80gig HD, before re-format there was just one HDD (C), now there's that and a 4gig local disk (F) with the new installation of XP on it, Documents/Settings and Program files folders.
HDD(C) contains 15gig of old XP installation + misc crap.
1.Can I delete all that rubbish
2.local disk (F) shows only 500mb of free space, is that enough for all the rubbish I'll be throwing into the folders doc/set and programme files.....I'm thinking not.
3.I'm gonna have to do this again aren't I.........:shake:

Any advice from you PC gods will be gratefully accepted...

My advice, although drastic, would be to make sure all your stuff is backed up, and start again. it doesn't take that long.

This time, in the menu where you select the drive you want to install too, press D to delete all the partitions that have been made, untill its says you have 80GB (or 74GB ) or what ever it is of unpartitioned space. then press C to creat a partition and manually enter the largest quantity in MB that you can. Then, just for the sake of it, do a full format (ie not the quick one) to really make sure it's all gone :)

Thought so.....b****r.

All my stuff is still backed up on externals, I've only installed firefox and avg, so.....might aswell do it now......uh.....b****r

thanks guys..

ere, what size partition should I make ?

make a single partition of the largest amount it says. On my 80GB's it actually turns out its a 74GB disk due to the 8 bits in a byte malarky etc etc (that is irrelevant really) the point is, when you go to create the partition after deleting all the current ones, it will give you an amount, in MB just before the space where you input the size you require. I suggest putting in the max amount it says. what it will then do, is make a partition that is 8MB smaller than what you tell it too. why it does this, i have no idea. Do not worry about this.

Yes....its clicked, it will only show one drive in My Computer like it did before I re-formatted.
thanks Woodsy..

Back.....no partition, one HDD, and a processes list that actually fits the damn page:)
