Ray's 52/2011 - Week 11 - "Knowledge" added

Hiya Ray,

Brilliant  Like everything about this photo, from the idea, composition, colours, DOF, focus and straight horizontals.

I saw a sign yesterday and thought that would be a good idea, but I already have 4 images that I am trying to decide which one to post. I actually thought this was going to be a really tough one, but actually surprised at the number of ideas I have had ...... maybe what we think are the more difficult themes are actually not that bad (heaven forbid when we get a really easy one .... I think that is when I will battle )

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Ray

Hi Ray

Thanks. :D
You both comment on the colour but it's sadly not all natural. The sign was fairly faded, so the blue and red had to both have saturation and hue adjustments to make them look "correct". The wall on the other hand was so overly yellow from the lichen it was like something from the wizard of Oz, so that saw a big DEsaturation. Apart from that, pretty much straight from the camera.

Funny how you have so many ideas for this week Dawn, for me it was probably the hardest to come up with so far - the little accompanying tale isn't that far from the truth. Also, it is SO hard to find a road that is both a dead end and also has a finish/end type word in it!

Week 10 - Trio

Bit stumped (hah!) this week - didn't want to go the triptych route, so I ended up out and about in the country again. Next few weeks I'm going to have to stay inside - no more greenery. :gag: Not so happy with the photo this week, the B&W conversion is more of a covering up for things than a plan for the start like week 4 was.

Played with adding a frame this week - I think it needed it.

Hiya Ray,

TBH I actually like your trio photo  and well done on adding the border, it works well.

I like the way the trees seem to form the lead in to the lines in the right hand of the frame (i.e., in the field).

Perhaps a bit of a tweek with contrast and sharpen would enhance the image, but otherwise I think it is bang on theme.

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Cheers guys, I'll take the pointers on board for next time I do anything landscapey. Still something I don't do well, but practice and feedback make better, if not perfect.

The sky was tricky - a flat even grey. I brought out as much detail as I could in it, and ended up brightening it just to put a bit more light in the image.

Week 11 - Knowledge

Definition of knowledge shown on a site dedicated to knowledge, on one of today's modern devices intended for dissemination of knowledge. If that doesn't meet the theme, I don't know what does. :cuckoo:

Glad to be back inside this week, I've had enough of greenery!

Thanks. :)
No sepia tint. The only post-processing was tweaking curves (doubly so on the screen) and a pre-save sharpen.

They are very clear - perhaps not as much as shown, but really in another league than PC/tablet type screens. I think you're right on the oversharpening, though.

Hiya Ray,

Your knowledge shot definitely fits the theme.

Like the combination of colours that make the screen and text stand out.

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

if you want to compare it to pc/tablet screens then look at my week 11...
which is...
exactly the same thing, shown on an iPad and a HTC desire (my kindle had a flat battery...)
(hadn't seen this first! - promise!!!)

Hi Ray, some fantastic images in you thread. "trio" stands out for me - although it feels to tightly cropped at the top.

Cheers, Patrick

Hi Ray, missed your trio, and just seen your knowledge post, both great for the themes, quite like the b+w in your trio, and your knowledge is a nice shot also, other critique has already been covered. Heres to your next image

I have been naughty and fallen behind. :(

I shall have to fix this over the next week or two. Busy bee time...
