Well the 42" Plasma went click during Attenborough and the picture just disappeared.Sound and channel changing --no problem.Just no damn picture.Tried everything and I do mean everything.Checked the receipt and its 4 months out of warranty----of course. So I rang the local warranty agent to see if they would handle the repair for me and they wanted £175 just to look at it and yes I would have to get it to them--no collection service.
After much ringing around it seems that this sort of figure whilst at the high end is not unusual for plasma/LCD tellys.Eventually I found a long established local company that only wanted £55 up front but as I found out when I dropped the set off they contract out the engineering---huh ! I now have to wait 10-14 days to find out if its an economic repair.
All my previous tellys have lasted 7-10 years and been passed down through various children and so I have never subscribed to extended warranty agreements.I would now strongly urge anyone with a big plasma LCD to take one out----with the average new set costing C £800 and rising up to £2000ish its got to make sense if its going to go phut in less than 18 months.Me I am keeping my fingers crossed ---more in hope than expectation-----AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH.
Pete.
