1, (possibly for the boys) how do you avoid a numb penis?

2. anyone got any advice on getting rid of a stitch without stopping, and can you do any serious damage by not stopping?

I'v been running for about 18 months now, and i cant work these two out!

any help?

deeply freaked out by no.1

and no help whatsoever as I consider walking to be far too much effort

no 1 is a very strange question never heard of that

no 2 not sure there is much you can do about the stitches once you have them other than stop
have you tried crunch's or similar to try and avoid it aswell as longer warm up period's inc the area you are having stitches i persume you mean the belly area

1. Don`t hold it so tight, you`re cutting off the circulation......

lol.

Strange question!!

Don't know about a stitch, but for no:1 have thought about teaching it to read a book

In responce to the update:

Put a bigger pair of socks down there, it`ll insulate it.....

:D

Stitches round the abdomen are due to your stomach still digesting food I always thought? Stomach and muscles are fighting for blood so the muscls win and you get a stitch. To stop it just eat a bit earlier so you aren't digesting your food as you run.

May be completely wrong however...

nooo, a stitch is a lactic acid build up. but my knowledge stops there, i bet the Rozzy wishes i had remembered how to avoid it ;)

As for the penis issue, try deep heat

hmm never had numb knob from jogging heheh, had it from cycling though and it's from the seat pressing on a nerve or something

are your pants too tight? :p

I seem to remember a tale from David Niven where he plunges his chilly willy into a glass of brandy to relieve the numbness. IIRC, that restored sensation to the affected area quite swiftly.

woollen condom?

I always thought stitches were you pulling the tendons that hold your stomach in place so having it empty makes it lighter so it won't pull on the tendons as hard

I don't think there's any definite answer to the stich problem, but loads of info HERE

Can' thelp with your todger problem.

well thanks for the serious advice, and again, some of the replies have been amusing.

well iv done alot of research on stitches, but there seems to be no conclusion, and i wondered if anyone here had any tips or tricks.

and as for my "chilly willy" i spoke to someone today who recommended a product which protects the skin from windchill and keep heat in, apparently should work on my "ahem", extremities!

so thank you!

From my own personal experience, It's all related to my breathing. I seem to get it when I take short breaths (obviously not inhaling enough oxygen or exhaling enough carbon dioxide).

When I feel the stitch coming on I start breathing deeply, exaggerating my chest and stomach movements. It (the stitch) normally disappears within a few breaths. Not sure how this goes against any of the scientific theory, but it works for me.

oddly enough im the other way round! when my breaths are deeper i have problems!

i found that strapping it to my leg cut off the supply...tighter pants worked better...

Lycra cycling shorts under whatever you currently wear?

Just tuck it in your sock! ;)

I can sympathise with the stitch thing. I used to hate running because I always got the stitch and always in the lower left abdomen, sort of in the appendix area. Everyone used to say keep running and it goes off, but it never did, once I'd got it, I was stuck with it and bloody awful it is too. :gag:

Thermal cycling or running tights/leggins or shorts for number.

Only thing that causes me stiches when running is eating about 30mins before, i tend to eat about 1hr before.

Wear longer shorts so that it doesn't hang below the leg hem.

I believe they're called shorts. I always wear them when out running - that way, my knob stays toastie and I stay out of jail.

Interesting, is that 2:2 breathing a good idea?

I noticed it works quite well, as i was trying to take longer, deeper breaths, instead of hyperventilating. (Did it without reading about it before hand)
