And with eager to be published people providing a steady supply of free to use images, It is little wonder why they don't. :nono:
Yes it does ruin my and other professional photographers livelihood you have to remember that we just like yourselves have mortgages to pay and children to feed. Giving pictures away just for a byline is very naive and please remember that the BBC will syndicate your pictures to other media outlets.
Glenn Surtees said:Having neither a mortgage or children, nor an ego that requires me to get free bylines, I think I am entitled to do what I want with my photographs. The BBC make it clear they can do what they want with my image, suits me. I didn't notice hordes of professionals covering this event, whose livelihood I have ruined by giving my image away.
That's brilliant Glenn! Did you email asking to have your picture up? Or are you also the reason they did the news report?
And while I've got you - how have you done your signature, I love the flickr information! Does it update automatically?

'I'll do what I want, I bought a camera so screw you' really is a fantastic attitude to others professions.

It's true though. If he just likes taking photos which is how all of us start and most of us stay then this is more of a pride thing to have a photo published and that's a fair attitude.
I can, however, understand the professionals point of view that it's a worry if you try and make money out of this type of shot but others can do it for free and are happy to.

Do you really think I should concern myself with your business, Mortgage or income?
