I run a mac and have resized my images down to 72.01 pixels. width 11.11 height 6.94 . 517.7kb. Whenever i try and upload the pics to my gallery it says the file size is too large. Any ideas where i a going wrong?

the 517kb may be the giveaway here, its too big, maximum is 200kb's

resize in pixels [in photoshop] to a maximum of 1200 x 800 pixels {ithink that sthe new allowance, though I am trying to keep mine at 1000 max then people arent having to scroll across], then use 'save for web' from the file menu, it opens a new window, with the file size in bottom left hand corner. Use the slider next to image for quality, and slide it up or down so you are just on slightly under 200kbs, then click save. probably best to save under a different name so you can keep the original at full res.

Using Photoshop :

Open the image
Go to Image (menu) > Image Size
First, enter "72" next to Resolution, and make sure it's set to "Pixels/Inch"
Then right at the top of that box, under "Pixel Dimensions" :
Enter 800 in the box next to "Width"...... the "Height" value should change automatically too, to keep the image in proportion.

Then click OK.

The go to File > Save For Web
This opens a new window. At the bottom left under the image, you will see a file size. Probably be about 100k or so. If it's over 200k,......there is a box at the top right, entitled "Quality", reduce this number (it goes from 1-100), until the file size at the bottom left, goes below 200k.

Hit save, enter your filename, and hey presto....There's your image, ready to upload :)

It is 1024 maximum wide or high.

I have noticed oversize images even with this new larger limit. Looks like the pixel police still have work to do :(

I don't use photoshop. Why set pixels/inch? does anything take any notice of that setting?

edit - apart from a printer I meant to say.

Right got through all those stages until the last page where i am looking for the box at the top right hand side "Quality". I am running Photoshop CS3 and there is not a box up in the top right to adjust the quality. Any ideas?

Make sure its set for jpgs, not gifs or bitmaps, that quality thing is only there on jpg saving IIRC. ;)

Okay just changed it to jpeg format. Saved it and gone to upload it (its only 125kb). Cant upload it onto site as it says 'file was not an acceptable format'
I got no hair left to pull out now!..........

:bang:

ok, did you change the name or location when you saved it? If not, did you then close the original image? [there is a reason I am asking these silly questions, I promise]
