I'm thinking of buying a decent printer and printing myself rather than outsourcing all the time. One thing that popped into my head, and has returned no real information via Google, is that sheet paper is supplied in A4, A3 sizes etc, but common print sizes are 8x6, 12x8 etc.
If I wanted to print a 12x8 print, which is my most common size, I'd have to use a whole sheet of A3, resulting in a lot of wastage. An A4 sheet would be too short by 1/4".
How do people get round this? Do you either have to resize and crop to A4, and supply A-sized prints, or just put up with a load of wastage?

Printers will use SRA3/A4/A2 and cut down to size, 2 A4's from an SRA3 sheet etc.

A3+ is 13" x 19" - 2 12" x 8" prints per sheet.

Surely if A4 is 11.69*8.27 then A3 is 16.54*11.69
If you cannot get one 12*8 out of an A4 sheet then you cannot get two out of an A3 sheet.
I now print A4, there are lots of frames about at that size nowadays

Kev, note carefully the plus in A3+, it's bigger than A3!

No worries, mate, new to me too!

Yup, A3+ isn't actually a "proper" A series size - a bit unfair of them to use the A designation! If I was planning to mount a 12x8 print, I would be tempted to print it on a sheet of A3 then trim it down a bit rather than have a minimal border that printing 2 on a single A3+ sheet. I know paper isn't cheap but it would allow a little extra margin for error!
