So I've decided to take a trip out to Ukraine in around a month's time to visit the Chernobyl exclusion zone. I'm hoping it's gonna make for some interesting photos but I'm a bit reluctant to bring my 'good' kit to the zone where it may be confiscated on leaving the zone if it has been contaminated. So I'm looking at getting a poverty kit that I'll not be too fussed about ditching if the worst happens!
I'm thinking of picking up a 20D or 30D depending on the prices and a general purpose lens. Now I'm not sure what lens to go for. I know the 18-55mm never got great reviews but I feel a zoom lens could be more versatile than the 50mm f/1.8.
I have the 50mm f/1.8 so thought I could take that and maybe pick up a 17-85mm IS?
I could probably find a cheap heavy tripod in Kiev if I felt I desperately needed it.
Anyone got any advice for building a poverty kit? Thanks in advance!
