We had a room that did nothing in particular, apart from provide a passage between the hall and the kitchen. We decided to change it in an office.
#1 - the wall on the left as you enter, we converted the fireplace into a set of bookshelves.
#2 - the next wall has a work surface on which are a desktop, a laptop, a laminator and a scanner. Both the computers have a wifi connection to the Internet. Above it are three rows of shelves holding CDs, DVDs and software. Underneath the worksurface, there is a colour laser printer, paper, a spare lap top and paper amongst other things. The kitchen and conservatory is beyond.
#3 - after the kitchen entrance, the wall has a desk, some CDs and a USB turntable. The painter of the picture on the wall is the man who took a photograph of John Lennon at Quarry Bank Grammar School when Lennon was a pupil at the school.
#4 - the last wall with another worksurface which has another desktop, webcam and router. Above it are three rows of shelves holding books, DVDs and software. Underneath the worksurface, there is an inkjet printer and a scanner amongst other things. And thus back to the hall.
So now this is one of the most used rooms in the house.
