Having just treating myself to the Nik Collection (thank you Google for your very kind offer of a reduced price :) ), and had a play about, was hoping for some comments on what you think?

This is the original image, shot RAW and straight out of camera with no alterations. I admit it's not the best of images, but more interested in your comments on the PP work:

Image 1:

Image 2 - PP done in LR4 only (added a Grad filter, then adjusted curves and bit of vibrance & saturation):

Image 3 - All PP done by Nik Collection (followed workflow of Sharpener Pro, Dfine, Viveza then Color Efex):

Image 4 - All PP done by Nik Collection (followed workflow of Sharpener Pro, Dfine, Viveza then Silver Efex):

Amazing how much the same image can change with some very simple steps! In all it took about 15-20 mins to PP all 3 versions.

Which do you prefer and any comments as to whether I've over done any particular element of PP (think I might have over saturated the rocks on image 3, but not sure!)

I prefer No.2. Everything from then on is overdone IMO.

I don't understand how the add on plugins offer any more functionality over the standard LR sliders?

Especially when the effects can be done with just a few clicks in LR rather than pushing them through different plugins

In my view, they offer a lot greater flexibility over LR and are more powerful in what they can do. I find it quicker and easier too, which is saying something as LR is hardly taxing or slow.

You can have a 15 day trial of the collection from google - might be worth trying it out yourself and watching some of their training videos on YouTube to see whether it works for you or not.

I agree, though you do have to be careful not to overdo it ... unless that's the effect you want :)

This is why i asked the question, the plugins are on offer at the moment but im struggling to see my requirement for them, ill give them a trial.

I tired em and uninstalled them they are not worth the extra ££££ for me, I have some onone presets and some from lightroomkillertips they do for me.
