Posiview's Photo 52 'Nature' added **FINISHED!!**

I like the idea behind this image. It certainly makes me think about all the "knowledge" that has been gained and lost when people pass on.

The gravestone is a bit unclear for me, so it's hard to read the inscription.

Hiya Andy,

I like your idea of 'knowledge', but not too sure about the photo. Perhaps if there was a bit more space around it.

Did you do much processing to it, besides the b&w conversion?

Would be interesting to see a colour shot of this to make up my mind.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Cheers, Patrick, in hindsight I should have shifted left/right and photographed from an angle to see if I could get more shadows in the inscription.

I've tried PPing it but can't get it any better, I'm sure I could zoom right in and 'dodge' the text but, naaahhhh!

Evening, Dawn, can't say I disagree with what you're saying. One of those situations when it seemed like a good idea at the time, which it was (;)) but the composition was lacking.

I couldn't move further back because no detail was visible if I did.

Perhaps a photograph of a much larger expanse of the graveyard to emphasis the loss of their collective knowledge...

If I have time I might reshoot at a local graveyard.

Anyway, here's the colour one which, I feel, adds very little, if anything...:(

Cheers.

I was sat there scratching my head after telling my wife this week's challenge and she gave me this idea....

It was getting dark and I had to shoot @ ISO 800, hence some noise.

And, no, I'm not cross-eyed:lol::lol:

Hiya Andy

Thanks for posting the colour version, which I actually prefer, mainly because it stands out better. I'm not so keen on the b&w close up of the headstone and somehow the processing loses something that the colour version has, but that is just my opinion. And it is not often I go against a processed photo, but sorry, in this case I do.

I've just noticed your post for the new theme, well done and what a great idea, 'Mr Costa'. The DOF and angle is spot on, although I must say you don't look impressed that you are going to have to have a small Costa  (now that is moderation :D)

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Lots to take on-board in relation to my Knowlede post...which is good (and bad!).
I might re-shoot a similar one in future as I really feel this one has potential.

Oh I like it...
May I just point out that it's the exact same amount of coffee, just with less water?

Only don't tell your wife!!

Hi Andy

Had a feeling your addiction to Costa was gonna show up for this theme

Great idea & focus & your expression is spot on...

:lol::lol::lol:

I like this, use of dof to direct viewers gaze, colours, noise, you know about.

Thanks all. I am quite happy with this one. It's great when you see the new topic and have one of them 'light bulb' moments.

Cheers.

Wow Andy that's a great shot. So many good things going on. Excellent use of DOF. Great self-portrait - natural but expressive. Nice light. Lots of good colour. Imaginative image.

Cheers, Patrick

Really like your moderation photo, an excellent idea, spot on!

Thanks, I quite like potrait photographs and might look to include myself more often... ;)

I have a few where my expression is better but dof, composition, etc don't work as well as this one.

Cheers.

moderation works well i great shot
some clever ideas for your themes :thumbs:

Week 13, empty.

I was looking to do a motorway photograph with a 10 stop ND filter at f32 to try and make a very busy motorway look empty.

Anyway, I don't think my cheap filters will be up to it, might try on Friday.

Decided to photography and egg after I emptied it.

Dark room, egg on a plastic Mcd cup top and used my laser pen by shinning it through the hole in the top.

Also cloned out the base to see which one looked better - I feel they both have their pros and cons but I'd go for #2.

Cheers.

Interesting image :) thank you for the explanation - otherwise I'd have been left wondering!
really excellent fresh idea, I wonder whether it would work a little better in b&w as the colour wouldn't confuse what it is so much? (LOL! or at least to me ;) )

Hi Andy, what a clever idea. I like your use of lighting, and agree that they are both likeable, I also like number 2.

great idea Andy and very well executed. Nice one (btw No2 for me too)

Thanks, all.

Here's a b&w version which I quite like, just a converted jpeg.

Looks almost celestial...thanks for the idea, Maria.

superb what a great idea and a great shot as well i think number 1 for me :thumbs:

Hiya Andy,

What a brilliant idea for theme Empty. I prefer the 2nd of the colour shots as I find the Mcd lid a bit distracting. Also like the b&w conversion and like you say it looks celestial.

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thanks, it's quite strange how one some weeks, the idea just pops into my head and for others it really takes time to think of an idea. I guess both have their benefits.

If I have time I'm going to take a similar photograph of a full egg to see if there is any discernable difference.

Cheers.

WOW, I would NEVER have come up with that! Brilliant!

I prefer #2 as it looks airborne and other worldly. Marvellous. I rather like the colours better than the b&w as it gives some shape to the image so defining the object from the backdrop without describing either. Love it

Absolutely brilliant  - I like the colour version best - a really great shot and a great take on the theme.

Very cool idea for the empty theme. I like the 2nd one with the base cloned out. Looks like an astronomical object! Love it.

Many thanks, it's always good to receive positive comments, really gets me psyched up to raise my standards/bar.....

Cheers.

Your empty has a plant look about it, all be it an oblong shaped planet - great idea and nice image.

Hi Andy

really like your shot for Empty ,great thinking as always

The B+W version appeals most but I do rather like the colors in the 1st shots

Thanks, I too was sat there last night waiting for week 14....:bonk:

I've got an (good) idea but will have to wait until it's dark!

Cheers.

Week 14.

Well, off camera flash is easy.....not :bonk:, but fun playing.

I couldn't get what I was after, that is shadows from various angles and with various depths that I was going to merge together...

Anyway, I ditched the flash and pulled out my cheap torch.

Got a bit tired so not overly happy, especially with the shadow as It's slightly off balance.

Object was hard because it was so easy, if you know what I mean??

Cheers.

Hi Andy

I know exactly what you mean about Object being hard becasue it was easy

Like the angle you've taken your shot at & the shadow created but maybe a slight straighten as the base looks off slightly...but it could just be my eye's:thumbs:

Sometimes when you look at some thing so long you miss the obvious...:(.

Thanks.

Hi Andy, that's quite a nice little object, as you say the shadows are a little awkward, but I think you have done well considering.

Cheers, this is the one I'm most displeased with. The idea was there but the execution/processing was a bit off. Might give it another go tonight.

The detail (in the raw file) on the trophy is great but it hasn't translated to the posted image.

Thanks.

Apart from the wonky view I like the effect you have created here, nice image with some interest

Thanks, it's frustrating when I don't have the skills to translate what I visualise into a photograph.....

Anyway, it's much better than I could have done last year and a tad better than my first object.

Cheers.
