weekly Posiview's 2012 ....week 52 Busy added...finished!

Hmm. I really really like the B&W one from your first pair; it does what you intended IMHO. I kind of got "entrance to the nightmare" even before I read your description.

The new one is a great image in it's own right, but looks more like a bridge than the entrance to a tunnel to me. I think it needs a more distinct but also more distant exit to work for the theme.

Apologies Andy but this isn't working for me.
I find the various aspects don't really come together, more so the ones with your good self as the model. The last one works much better for me, the light painting on the entrance highlights it with a faint view of the exit at the other end. Iain

Marmite shots eh; nothing wrong with that!

Thanks, I've done another edit and may post.

All your entrance photos are ace. Not sure which I prefer.
Interesting use of light painting and ND filters.
Like the way you can see the end of the tunnel through the body!

Thanks, seems like there's a mixed reaction to being able to see the exit through me, which is to be expected.

I really like your first B&W shot Andy. I may have been tempted to pp out the exit with your body. Nice though.

Thanks, I didn't really notice the exit though me for some reason

Thanks for the crit...always welcome.

Indeed...cheers.

Liking the latest version Andy, very nice.

Cheers, Michael, as said I have another edit and may post.

I've also got a more humerus photograph that I'll post later in the week.

I had another idea but Isabelle was less than helpful so it wasn't to be :bat:

Cheers all and  for still being here.

The last shot is very eerie... really like that one the best

A nice idea with the first 2, of the pair I prefer the B&W again, your torso in that one feels more transparent to me :)

Andy....spooky very spooky......was looking at the same time.....think I actually prefer the second one, the colour, don't know why...to me it just feels better....

Cheers, guys, here's my final submission from this shoot. I suspect any more will result in "The law of diminishing returns" :D

i like you think outside the box as it where we are all guilty of getting the obvious shot at times the first 2 entrance shots remind me somehow of the fire starter video, dont know why.

Spot on!

Hi Andy, I think I prefer the first black and white with you on. I just find the 'trees on your bottom':lol: a little distracting, but a good idea and well taken!!

Cheers, I watched Firestarter on Youtube last week...absolute classic...cheers.

Thanks.

Thanks, yeah I tend to agree with you about the exit :shake: If the tunnel had been longer I could have had the exit between my feet...never mind.

Cheers.

I just can't help myself :D

I was sat on the porch of the wigwam with Jackie and Isabelle on Saturday, inside my sleeping bag, chillin' away drinking Cobra. I took a few soldiers :D and had the idea of having one of the soldiers guarding the entrance to the bottle.

I don't often use my 50mm  even though it's a stunning lens, so I thought I'd use it.

I am quite happy with it: nice and sharp, nice colours and I like the DOF showing the fluffy clouds, then again I would say that :naughty:

If I hadn't had so many Cobras, I'd have waited until there was some rich colour in the clouds....never mind.

I don't think I'll be posting anymore for this theme.

Cheers all.

Week 14 2 by andysheader (Posiview), on Flickr

I love that; fantastic, almost painting-like, colours and DoF.

But you took toy soldiers on holiday? Really? What's wrong with you man? :cuckoo: :lol: :cuckoo:

Hi Andy,

Toy soldiers? ....you just can't take the boy out of the man!:D
Really like this one, it's a great idea well executed. The colours, composition, DOF all spot on. I'm not so keen on the tunnel shots but there is something about the last one I like...just can't explain what!

Carol

Only you would take toy soldiers on holiday

I recognise that tunnel.....your sepia type version , for me ,is the best...seems to suit the image better than B&W...the very small light at the end draws me in so a big  for that one matey

The verisons with you in them.....B&W works better for me with the almost ghostly effect you've given yourself.....BUT seeing those tree's where your bum should be freaks me out

Toy soldier.....lol at that one....do I detect a little tonemapping or just saturation boost here ? Great DOF though...is that pruely down to the lens? I f yes then I'm really looking forward to borrowing it for a day ....cheers Matey

Tunnel is much better without you in it Andy, hits the theme better.
I see what you were aiming for, not sure there is enough detail in blurred you to have achieved it, but hey, you know me, I ain't an expert!

Now as for the bottle; I like it!
It's a fun shot, the DOF is just right, the colours are great; which I'm going to say are natural - I'm no HDR/ Tone Mapping convert like Lynne, selling her sole to the dark arts!

And just the mention of those pods brings back great memories of a great weekend, come on June!

Love it Andy!

Cheers.

Owt for my art :D

Cheers. Toy soldiers.....:bonk: I'm sure they'll be back in the near future.

Yeah, I'm tempted to say, "Does my bum look big in this tunnel?"...but I won't :D

No tone mapping...WB, contrast, sharpen, smooth, clarity and vibrance tweeked. I try to avoid touching saturation.

The soldier was photographed with 50mm and just looked at the the EXIF and it was @ f13. As I recall, with f1.8 the BG was totally OOF, which I didn't like.

Cheers, Neil. These occasion are always strange, I spent hours planning and executing tunnel #1 and a few minutes with the soldiers.

And, as at 23.00 Thursday 5 April 2012 we have only 1860 hours to go....:D

Cheers all.

I like those entrance shots but can't decide if I prefer mono or colour as they both have their merits

I quite like both of the entrance shots but am leaning toward the colour one as I love the oversaturation and the almost HDR look to it. I love the creativity too of the movement of the head etc, however, being able to see the other end of the tunnel through your crotch is a little distracting to be honest.

Brilliant. I love it.

Cheers...

Fantastic - the backdrop, the log, the lovely beer and clever figure!

Thanks, I still smile when I look at it...:D

Thanks all...

Andy, absolutely love the Latest entrance, only you could go on holiday with a toy soldier

Thanks, Liz.

Ill pop by your last 2 today....I seem yo have missed them ???

Cheers.

Well, had 'soft' on my mind for the last day.... :cuckoo:....

I actually dreamt a cracker but can't blooming remember it...hopefully it will come back to me :D

I was brainstorming ideas with Isabelle and we came up with balloons as soft. Of I went to the shop and bought 100!

I wanted to get the balloon popping on the cactus but I don't have the gear and manually triggering the flash wasn't happening.

So, #1 was me pressing the balloon on the cactus until it popped. I really tried to get the spikes going into the baloon.

#2 was a closer crop of #1. I can see a horizontal band about an inch from the top which is really in focus. I assume this the DOF line? This was photographed at F9 and I was about 8 inches away with my Nikon 105mm...DOF is sssooooo shallow.

#3 was a bit of fun. I remember doing this trick with Isabelle when she as young...so we did it again. Manually focused so missed it a tad and clipped the end of the needle....

Cheers all and I have other ideas.

Good luck with your Soft.

Hi Andy,

love ya entrance shot, great imagination..

Soft - like the softness of the ballons against the sharp cactus needles, very clever..
#3 not seen that done for ages:)

Like the cactus shots, good contrast between the soft and hard/sharp - needle not really working for me, as you say focus missed.

Soft, not getting the needle, for me personally its just not interesting enough, i think for these to work well they have to be as sharp as a knife, i think out of the 2 cactus shots i prefer the second, i like the fact that its less busy and again it appears the sharper of the two

Thanks and fair point about the needle. I might have another go tomorrow.

Hi

I can't say I see ballons as soft, they are many things but I haven't thought of them as soft? Even working with the antonym of "soft" it doesn't quite work as that would be hard and the needles shout "Sharp".

Taking this in to account whilst all of the photos are brilliant they don't quite hit the theme's nail on the head.

I know from an earlier week about how I and other might interpt a them and too be honest it is a personal project and the themes are there to insire the creative process (or hinder for that matter given some of the themes we've had !).

Hi Andy I can see where you were coming from on this and number one is my fave of the 3 but they are screaming sharp at me rather than soft personally.

Thanks for commenting. I can see where you're coming from and I suspect your observation will be one many members say.

I have reshoot ideas and will get them done this week,

I'll keep my eye out for yours

I think I can see what you were trying to do with the balloon - but the spines just say 'sharp' to me, and boy do they look sharp. I might have tried it with the balloon less blown up so it's more squidgy and maybe press a finger or something blunt into it to create a dimple. Or maybe I didn't get what you were trying to do?

the needle picture is good but doesn't say soft to me I'm afraid
