weekly Posiview's 2012 ....week 52 Busy added...finished!

hi Andy, have been stupidly busy lately so am catching up,

Money - i agree with what everybody else has said the closer crop wins it for me.

Win - its a lovely shot, theres just something about it that makes you want to look again

ETA i think its because she looks so natural

Much better, good edit!

Thanks, it's often the detail that matters....

Well, just spent some time on another Win, but it wasn't to be. I've yet to get to grips with my Nikon 105mm. I was moving the dials and ended up at f57....didn't know such an F existed

Good luck all with week 10

Cheers.

Hi ya matey

Money......2nd shot for me...though how you have the patience to do this sort of shot is beyond me !

WIN...great portrait ....no nail varnish is better....DOF or gaussian blur ? Which ever , it works really well  Is amazing how high f numbers go up to...managed to get f39 on macro lens once

Hi, it seems a lot quieter this year...

Patience...patience....

#2 for me as well. It's DOF, taken 50mm @ 1.8.

Getting a bit closer to the meet....can't wait :D

Hi Andy, sorry I missed your money shot when you posted it, bloody illness has slowed me right down these past two weeks!

I like the coin toss, very clever, now details please? How did you do it?

I like the candid feel to win, very simple but beautifully shot.
Obviously the edited version is better!

Hi, there, hope you're better

The coin, well, I just sat down, tossed and coin and used a flash. Done....

Maybe not. It was trial and error with the shutter spead and flash power. I took around 30 before I managed to get one I was happy with. I have a sharper photograph, but it does look like it's been PPs in and i felt a bit of movement worked better.

Great fun. Honest :D

lovely portrait but I'm afraid it doesn't say 'win' to me; 'secret' perhaps. Now if this week's theme is 'secret' I'm gonna scream

Hi Andy, what a lovely portrait of your daughter, I don't mind the nail varnish but must admit the edit is better!:) Lovely lighting and focusing!

It dosen't scream win either to me but I dont mind as its such a lovely portrait!:)

Hi Andy,

I've somehow got behind in my comments on your thread.

Root – I prefer your second shot with the whole root showing

Handmade – I like your elves shot. Nice lighting and good DoF. Well done for keeping going on your hols in Finland

Money – Good idea and well caught

Win – That’s a lovely portrait and definitely improved with the edit.

'Win' and 'Money' Two very nice images

Great lighting, composition, creativity and Depth of Field

Great idea with the flick and really great capture with the portrait. I love this picture.

Thanks. I had an idea in mind and it's nearly what I photographed, but not quite. I don't mind if photographs aren't obvious to the theme, sometimes I want think about what is displayed, but I hear what you're saying with regards my submission.

Indeed it doesn't scream 'win', but see above

Great idea with the flick and really great capture with the portrait. I love this picture.

Thanks a lot...

Well, sometimes it's those ideas that are unplanned that work best. For Win, i had a great idea but it wasn't to be. My submitted theme was one of them, "OOOooo, I have an idea...IIIIISSSAAABBEELLLEE!!".

Thank all. Hope I've commented on yours...PM me please if I have't because I think it's important to support each other.

Hi Andy

Handmade - good shots and a well spotted subject

Money - clever - just one of those shots that you have to have a lot of goes at ? i like both shots and I would not know which one to choose, although I like the shadow detail on the hand in #1

Win - difficult to get the theme for me from this shot. Good pic though and I like the use of the dof that you have managed to produce.

Well, first attempt at shiny (bubbles) was a bit of a :bonk: :bonk: :bonk: so I have another one I'll photograph tonight.

Good luck all and  to those that have already posted :D

Like the money shot, would maybe like a bit more focus on the coin but the overall effect is great.

Excellent shot of Isabelle, it does need a little bit of narrative to get the win link but a fab picture. Lovely colours and effect.

Nice work on both money and win Andy.
I think the edit of win works better as it was tidied up a little. I agree with you on having to look a bit deeper in a photograph to find its meaning. Some of these themes can have a very narrow brief if we were to try and get an obvious 'on theme' photograph. It makes things more interesting if we stray off the path every now and again. Iain

Thanks, I'm sure I'll have opportunity to do something similar again.

Cheers, I tried an 'out of the box' take on shiny and well, it wasn't pretty...:D

Cheers.

Well, Shiny is one of those themes that is everywhere....:D

My first attempt at the theme was, well, an abject failure.....

This isn't my final submission but I'm still getting to grips with my Nikon 105mm, talk about a small DOF :bonk:

Anyway, thought I'd practice with bubbles again: bubble bath and WD40...:D

I'm getting a bit frustrate with Flickr sucking the colours out...in PS, the colours are really vivid but on Flickr (can I replace the 'li' with a 'u' :nono:) the colours are far more muted.

Anyway, enough moaning....

Cheers all.

Hi Andy.

I like the colours here. I understand the oil and water but what have you done here? Is it pouring slightly? Sorry if it's a stupid question I just like to know what I'm looking at!

Your 105mm Nikon, is it a macro? I find I have to use at least f8/ f11 to get a decent DOF!

Ahh the old soap reaction trick, great structure holding it. ;)

Playing catch up BIG Time :)

Money - Well caught shot that, nice clear background too

Win - Love the edit shot, a good idea with great dof

Shiny - Love the colours in the shot

Thanks for catching up

Nice shot and love the colours.

Thanks the colours are much better on my laptop...far more vibrant.

Hi, bubble/oil in a glass, staw blowing at the bottom and getting in close...

ooooh - I've looking at this lens - how are you finding it (apart from finding the right f stop)?

I like abstract images, very nice!

First thing I noticed was the build quality. It's like a tank could run over it and it would survive...

Focus is very fast, it's very sharp and the manual focus is super smooth.

Go on, you know you want to...

Ahh the old soap reaction trick, great structure holding it. ;)

'Soap reaction trick', well at least I know the name now.

I've got a few more which I might submit later...

Cheers all...

I like that shot for shiny a lot. I'd have been tempted to crop closer to the coloured section, but it's great as it is.

Hi Andy

I'm playing catch up again

Money is a great shot and I love the fact that you can see the image on the coin

Win as already said a top portrait the focus is spot on

Shiny brilliant macro I like looking at a photo and trying to work out what it is before I read the notes and try and work out what it is and I got the bubbles but went for oil not wd40. I. Want to have a go but will have to wait till I can get a macro lens

Liking the WD and bubble bath what receptacle did you use to contain it ? - think this is a really nice image.

Cheers, macro is addictive...but it's not easy to get right...:bonk:

It was a small glass.

Cheers.

I have to say, I do find the easier themes, such as this one, harder...:thinking:

Hi,

Money....great capture

Win... Nice DOF and idea.

Shiny...I have seen this done on another thread for shiny, great images, I really like them.

Matt

Hi Andy, great pic, only thing I would prefer is a closer crop or to get the bubbles to fill the frame.

Cheers, with a closer crop it gets a bit noisy

Thanks for looking at them and commenting...

hey up matey

oooh....nice take on Shiny , brilliant colors in the wd40...what else are you doing for the theme ?

ps....Macro is addictive....it's also a royal pain in the behind to get right

Cheers, you've been quite lately....wonder why :D

Thanks for looking. Macro....:bonk::bonk: can't imagine doing it when there's any wind :gag:

I've done a few more, see below.

Cheers all...

I like the psychadelic (sp) colours in this Andy.
A creative take on the theme, which is very appealing. I think this would look good as a large print with the vibrant colours. Iain

Hi, all.

Well another baldy member beat me to one I was going to do...:bat:, so I had a few backups.

#1 was of some small shiny spoons I bought for this 52....I know sad....:cuckoo: Composition wasn't easy, a tad off and it looked naff. It was inside so naff lighting. Just looked at exif and I though this was taken @ 11mm, but it's 50mm prime. Yip, that's me...I'm meant to be there...but remembered I wasn't going to be in any of this year's 52...:geek:

#2 was of a small bedside light I have (which reminds me, I must put it back together). Photographed at f18 to get the starburst. I'm not sure about the space at the bottom, though. It didn't look right in square format so i opted to place it on the top third.

Cheers all.

Number 2, deffinately, and I like the empty space a lot. Number 1 is good, but I'm not sure it works with the tripod etc in view?

But number 2; wow!

Definitely prefer the spoons. Nice idea and I quite like the splash of red in each of the reflections.

Cheers, red and Audrey on the wall...

If you can photograph it without the tripod you're a clever man ;)

Good idea with the spoons Andy, but number 2 takes top spot for me too. The extra space is growing on me a lot.

Thanks.

Can I ask you all how long are the star bursts, that is the light from them?

I've just moved my laptop towards me a bit at they touch the top, left and right of the frame. Looks much better, if I say so myself...

Cheers.
