weekly Posiview's 2012 ....week 52 Busy added...finished!

Very clever idea. I prefer the first image in colour as you can't make the letters out properly in the shadows on the B&W version. What does your first one look like in B&W?

The black background doesn't do anything for me.

As for white background what is OCF? I've only ever got a white background by adding exposure compensation. I'll be interested to see what advice you get here.

Oh please take some bourbon laced shots, just for our amusement!!

Good heavens above mister...is there no stopping you

Nice simple & effective....love the shadows & the colors in the 1st image... very effective lighting

of the 2nd pair I think I prefer the darker image....seems to give better clarity on the letters ? Good work though matey.....look forward to seeing some outdoorsy Industry shots

Thanks, I did one with a dark BG to see what it looked like. These were off camera flash, mainly to get the shadows. I mainly photograph in manual and rarely aperture or shutter so don't really use EC.

Cheers.

Thanks a lot.

Given the chance I'd be out here now...long exposure show photographs..but I've had a few too many and would end up like Jack..linky

It's looking good for the meet as well :D

Ah, I see what OCF is now! Can you explain what your set up is to achieve a white background? I have two flash guns but get horrible shadows when I think about anything like this.

As for EC, surely it works in any mode? You just increase the exposure incrementally until you get the desired effect?

Set up, to be honest, was 'suck it and see'. Flash was behind and above camera....hundred or so were taken and the BG wasn't white in any; at best it was pale grey. I had to sort out in post.

I've read that EC doesn't work in the same way in manual as it does in aperture or shutter modes. Changing EC will effect the exposure scale (whatever it's really called).

Cheers.

It looks like you spent a while setting this shot up and I think it works very well. I would really like to try this when I have a bit more time. 10/10 for effort !

Love to see all the things you are trialling. It looks like you are really pushing yourself for the project! Thanks Mandy

Very neat and set up nicely. ;)

3 great shots Andy, agree with previous comment on the Y being very bright.
but the other 2 make up for it.
number 2 for me.

Thanks all. I really feel I need to get outside for this one. Hopefully I can get out on a lunchtime.

Cheers and hope I've commented on yours...PM me if not

Hey all...some cracking photographs for industry posted

I have an idea for industry and I'm looking to make it during tomorrow lunchtime.

I've been scouting Goggle maps which is a great tool for moocking around the street from the comfort of home with a Cobra in one hand and the other hand surfing Amazon.....

Cheers and, as always, if I've missed yours let me know..there's a lot to keep track on...

Hi Andy,
You have had lots of detailed comments and i have not identified anything new but i wanted to say how imaginative you have been and it is encouraging to see that you took about ahundred shots on a suck it and see basis cos I get a bit worried when I have taken 20 or 30 and am no where near getting what I want.:bang: On my fried egg still life I took 84 because lots of small details kept tripping me up. Another lesson learned from a shared experience. It's a good Challenge:thumbs:

Stop waffling mister :bat: I'm waiting.........:p

Really like it, the first one for me though.

Its great to take a theme and nail it but without doing the obvious.

As always good work!

**cough...and then I go and do a more obvious photograph :D

A simple but effective idea. I prefer the first version for industry, the colour adds more to the shot IMO good job

Thanks.

Hey Andy

Secure - How fun are they... Great idea, nicely staged and taken

Industry - What a great set of images, I really like the second shot, great getting the shadows too, real good work... nice one :)

Thanks..I ate sssooo much chocolate that week :gag:

Well, this is the photograph I envisaged when I saw the theme.

Photographed during lunchtime and it was bloody freezziinngggg.....

I decided to use a App I got for my iTouch to calculate hyperfocal distance. Not sure I did it correct

Anyway, this large expanse of land used to be occupied by myriad industrial buildings, many of which are still viewable on Google Street View (near Geldard Road in Leeds for those who know).

Now, well it's just a big expanse of emptiness, often occupied by travellers.

I made a few, more on my Flickr.

Thanks and thanks for commenting so far

Oh, and no chocolate :nuts::nuts:

Like the idea, it certainly fits the theme and I can understand why you immediately thought of it my only reservation is that it strikes me as being a bit soft.

Thank. I did have to sharpen more that I usually do. This was my first attempt at using an hyperfocal distance app and I'm unsure if I did it right. I'm going to put a query in the forum.

A great shot. Love the mood the shot creates.

Now that's a great shot. How did you get the sky that black, is it PP?

Thanks. It is darker that on my PC, but I used my ND grads for the first time yesterday, but even after using them I darkened in post.

I really wanted to portray the bleakness of the place.

Thanks all....

Matey....you're slipping here...NO CHOCOLATE & NO SELFIE :p:lol:

Great image though...bleak & moody ....just right for the theme ...yup , gotta say...really like it

Will you please stop coming up with all these new toys...what is a Hyperfocal distance app ??...just googled it , read the words & still none the wiser

Why thank you.

I've just about got to terms with hyperfocal distance. Basically it's a tool, or a way of photographing, that maximises focus.

I'll leave it there because I'll only confuse myself...:gag:

Oh, and only 19 weeks to go....

Hi Andy,

I like your first industry shot very much...very nicely set up and photographed. I can live with the bright 'y' ! lol

Carol

Wow, very clever idea for the indoor shots, brilliantly executed! I might just pinch that idea one week!

Stunning shot of the industrial landscape too!

I like this a lot. I like the black clouds over industry, I like the sun rays through the clouds and I like the cable drum? looking like a table. Nice B&W.

Yeah, I did notice it looked like a table.

Thanks.

Great shot - very moody.
Just googled hyperfocal distance too. V interesting for me for future pics.
Rangefinder cameras have that info on the lens itself - at least my old Rollei did.

I've heard the older cameras had it built in...wonder why the digitals don't

Hahaha, I'm glad I'm not the only muppet, I had to google it too:amstupid:

Not stupid... inquisitive :thumbs::thumbs:

Well, I've just spent 2 hours washing, cleaning and blow drying root vegatables.

My familiy think I'm totally

Just having a rest, my tea then I'll see what I produced.

Cheers.
