weekly Posiview's 2012 ....week 52 Busy added...finished!

ahhhh brilliant shot

Great photo, love it.

Great shot Andy, very well taken

Now that I like. A lot!

Oh I like it. I like all the bubbles in the syrup and the golden colour is sublime.

Now explain how you did it?

Thanks...by the time I made the one I was quite satisfied with, I'll be reshooting because the focus isn't as good as I want, I'd licked :D the plate about 15 times so was almost sick after 1/4 bottle of syrup :gag::gag:

Camera on tripod, flash at side, prefocused and switched to manual, remote shutter in left hand, syrup in right....squeezed and photographed on continuous....loads of trial and error.

This one was 105mm macro, 160th second, F10, 50% flash power (I think). I had the built in diffuser thingy over the flash.

Hardest thing was focus...DOF is wafer thing so loads were OOF. The best one being an OOF photograph.

Anyway...good luck all

I'd appreciate any feedback to improve

I guess the point of focus will depend on how accurate you are at hitting the same point on the plate! Could you tie the syrup bottle up above the plate somehow, pick your point of focus and then shoot away once the syrup flows? The same way people do (I've read this, not done it) for photographing water droplets.

I considered that but the syrup won't come out unless the bottle is squeezed and squeezing would cause the bottle to swing.

I'll keep thinking

Cheers.

What a great idea! Also, I love the colour. At the bottom, is that a reflection (or a shadow, I cannot tell)? Personally I think I would have preferred it not being there, but I'm not sure if it would have been possible to eliminate it (move the flash to a different position perhaps?) Either way, I think it's a great take on the theme. By the sounds of it, also a technically difficult shot. Well done.

Hmmm, it's the shadow and colour reflected through the syrup.

Quick edit - think I'll have to pop back because I'm too tired to really asses which I prefer, thanks for the suggestion

Ah, yes, I do prefer the edited version. But I suspect it's a personal thing as with most photography - you might find that everyone disagrees with me! ;)

The best one so far :D

Great colour, great idea and a great take on the theme. Well done

Great capture Andy, I prefer the edited version. Certainly fits the theme for me!

Hi Andy,

Your house sigh, colour for me but the tree dominates too much of the left hand of the frame and is distracting.
As for buying it, two things, stop buying all the camera gear and Jackie can have her dream house  Secondly, don't it's got subsidence, you can tell from the way the house leans down on the left :p

Now for week 4, love it, it's a great idea.
I prefer the first version with the shadow.
The bubbles are great.
The only slight negative is the syrup trail, it looks over exposed/ a different colour to the syrup pile.

Cheers and I'm glad I did the edit to see before and after...I do prefer the original, though ;)

Great colour, great idea and a great take on the theme. Well done

Cheers..it was a tasty theme :gag:

Cracking shot Andy. The edit just edges it for me, but a brilliant idea for the theme, can't fault it fella :)

Why thank you

Cheers bud.

I'm not too happy with the house, in reality I should have surveyed the scene, realised that it wasn't suitable and come home...but I did learn a few things, so not a total loss.

The syrup, I'm hoping to have another go tonight with the nifty. The trail was a bit of a nightmare because the flash just burned all the colour out because the trail was very thin....

Cheers all.

Nice idea Andy, it looks moulting hot. Loving the light playing through the translucence substance. ;)

Hmmmmmmmm syrup yum. Like it, gives a really nice feel and you can almost touch the stickiness.

I like both, cant detail if I like with or without the shadow.

I think the only thing I would be tempted to try with it, obviously the syrup has now been put away, is it falling on some nicely coloured sweets? Just a thought...or dream or something!! :D

Thanks, I'll be doing a reshoot during the week..unless something else comes along.

I had a nice cream egg that I was going to use...but Isabelle thought different. :bat:

Week 4 d GGRRRRRrrrr by andysheader (Posiview), on Flickr

Love the syrup shot Andy, think i prefer the edited version, as for creme eggs,,,,,,,,,,,,,, yuck Isabelle can keep it

Really like your syrup photograph Andy. Great concept and tones. I like the shot of Isabelle too fits the theme well and is a bit different.

The syrup shots is a great idea!! Think the edited version works better for me. Looks a bit cleaner without the shadow.
Couldn't pick between that and the shot of your daughter though. Brilliant lighting on this one. A great portrait.

I would have done the same :)

I did...with the other one :D

Nice look! Did she get the whole egg in?

She did. She was like one of them animals trhat has to gulp the food down otherwise it will get taken off her. :)

The first sweet shot is great

Thanks a lot.

I'm looking to do another syrup photograph....not overly happy with either.

Yuck to cream eggs :bonk:

Thanks, most of the props have now gone...:gag:

Cheers all and I'll make sure I've commented on yours...don't forget to use the spreadsheet..it's getting easier because quite a few have dropped out.

love the syrup shot, although I would have been tempted to crop a little off the top. The b/g is that bright the "stem" just looks a little weird and messy to me.

I love that shot; the colours are wonderful, and having had a go with syrup myself you did extremely well to get the flow just right!! I prefer the version without the shadow personally; I find that a little distracting.

She looks like she enjoyed it!!!!

She did...and I enjoyed the other one

Cheers, Hhmmm, i had a crop and it does work better....the main blob falls on the lower left third after the crop.

Thanks, it was an enjoyable exercise :bonk: I had another attempt last night but was too tired so it just didn't work.

I like the idea I wonder how a black background would work.

I bought some black card tonight and I might have another go...time permitting. :help:

Cheers all....

Hi Andy, I love your second pic of the syrup. The lighting is just right and helps give it that lovely rich colour!!

I think the kids have done well out of this theme - Thomas was eating the lovehearts whilst I was taking pics of the rest of the pack, then George ate the Blackpool rock that I used for my shot on flickr!! Isabelle looks like she was having a lovely time eating cream eggs!!:lol:
