Thanks, all. I do like the industrial feel and the perspective on the B&W.

Maria, thanks, I did the 52 last year so have had plenty of practice. One thing you need to do is really let your imagination go wild. Make notes, if needed, as a reference aid.

I really like the spiral staircase it's a very powerful image. The colour is good but the mono fantastic. What lens dis you use Andy ?

Cheers, bud. I used the Tokina 11-16...:D I got some from standing on the top rails but my big feet were in the way.
 
All good photos and good takes on the theme but I really like the spiral staircase as well, can't decide if I prefer the B&W or not though as it looks really good both ways.

Cracking start to your 2012 52, look forward to the rest with interest :)

Fear.

So many ideas, many of which were already taken :bat:

I'm having to be a bit tactful at the moment...spending too much time..and money on photography so my wife's patience could be wearing a bit thin.

Had to wait until she went to bed and creep around for these. I think there is something instinctive about being fearful about what's lurking outside...:eek:

I have a few other ideas..

I absolutely love the b/w conversion on the direction photograph. very good :)
Nice take on fear as well, for me i prefere the curtain one, reminds me of my fears looking outside in the dark as a kid.
 
Both of these show fear really well, I can't decide whether the curtains should be a little brighter or if that would stop it from looking as dark and scary!!

Well done Andy and you need to get your wife into photography like i did with Peter but then the rivalry starts!!

Thanks, I tried a little lighter but didn't feel it worked.

I've been trying to convince Jackie to get a camera but she can see right through my reasoning...more gear bought by her for me to use...cynic she is....:D
 
I really like number 2, works very very well. I don't think 1 quite works; it might be better with a red eyed shadow showing through the glass I think?

Direction - I like what you tried to do with the plug hole, good effort.
The tree does it for me, it's one of those you see and you either have your camera with you and catch it or you don't!

Fear - good take on the theme. amazing what a couple of red dots can do to an image :gag:

The first fear shot is terrifying. Very on theme and a great idea. I think the simplicity of the shot really makes it. I'm not so keen on the second but that's only because I have seen the first.
 
That stair case shot is awesome!

I prefer your first shot of fear! I'm always terrified at night looking out the curtains so those eyes are quite menacing!

It's quite a dark shot though, I only saw the eyes when I zoomed in a bit, but looking on my iPhone makes it a bit harder.
 
Another idea of mine taken!

Personally I think you've made the eyes too obvious and that a barely visible, less regularly shaped pair might have been more effective. The barely visible face at the limit of visibility kind of thing.

I know that sounds negative but as I said in a different thread it's the way that I can see the intention but think you've just missed it that makes me want to point it out.

I prefer the curtain photograph, the red eyes look very menacing it works well. The second one not so much, if the eyes could be more defined by having the letterbox open may help, its just that to me they are a little lost in the darkness of the back of the door....IYSWIM :D Iain
 
I like them both. Reminds me of how I feel when I'm trying to sneak new gear into the house.

Can't help thinking that maybe in the curtain shot....a hand just visible moving the curtain slightly to one side might suit it & in the 2nd image maybe hands on the glass panels...like someone leaning on the door ? Just a thought...feel free to ignore me :D

Gonna look at sorting a meet to the YSP over the next couple of months ......:)

Yeah, I do like the tree, but it seems people like industrial more than nature...

Fear, indeed. I did have more of my face that I thought would scare people more, but I went for a minimal approach.

Thanks, yeah, the second one didn't turn out as planned. If I had time I'd incorporate a hoody as Southdowns suggested.

LOL, someone 'took' my original fear idea...

Thanks for the critique and taken on board. I like the idea of possibly making the eyes more oval, perhaps :thinking: I did try fading my face but couldn't get it right.

As above, I did try a few different take, as mentioned but they just looked too fake/staged.

YSP meet sounds great.

Hi Andy, still catching up with threads so apologies for not getting to you earlier.

Cracking start to your 52, can't fault any of the shots. Love the plug hole shot for direction and the spiral staircase works really in both colour and mono.

As someone else mentioned the fear shots reminded me of the Jawas from Star Wars, lol and they did scare me as a nipper hehehehe.

Can't wait to see more of your 52 :)
 
A great take on Fear for this week, think I prefer the 1st.

Something really sinister about someone lurking behind the curtains :)
 
Prefer the ist Fear one , somethings not quite right with the second but i cant put my finger on it , great take on it though.
