Hey, Im upgrading my kit to a Nikon D700 and a Nikon D90. Now I need advice on lens purchases. I do portrait mainly so looking so lenses for this. Studio work along with some location work. So please recomend.

Thanks

85mm f/1.4 G
85mm f/1.4 D
105mm f/2 DC
135mm f/2 DC

I find the 24-70 and the 70-200 VR II pretty useful as well. Just depends on your budget, but I like the 135mm DC for head shots and the defocus control.

i think 70-200 will be perfect choice. This lens is amazing. I have got D90 and this lens is always on. Also can be used for other things(sport etc.)
For potrait is ideal something between 100-135mm.

For in the studio I used a Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 on my Sony gear what are peoples views on these for the Nikon? Especially on a D700.

Thanks

im in the same boat, just upgraded to a d700.
i was planing on buying a 24-70 tomorow as its highly recomended. but im in two minds on whether to get that or a couple of primes instead.
ive already got a nikon 50mm 1.8 which has realy never left my d90 since i got it.
if i go for primesi will probably go for a 85mm 1.4d and for the other im not sure, need to keep the total cost to the same as the 24-70 would cost.
i know the 24-70 is ment to be graet but does it hold its own agains primes

You're gonna need one or two fast lenses for location work but a decent zoom like a 24-70 will ultimately be a more versatile offering, especially when you can utilise the D700s high ISO settings

I will be looking at getting some travel studio lights likely the bowens in the next cuple of weeks so not 100% nessecary for super fast lenses

The 85mm lenses are good for portraits.

So i've bought the Nikon D700 so full frame so the 85mm f1.8 will that be fine on the camera? not up to speed with the nikon lenses yet lol

Yes it will, it's fine on mine  I'd also invest in a 77mm lens cap and use that on the screw-in hood as it's a pain taking the hood off.
