Planning to buy a Tablet tomorrow....

Why does my avatar picture keep popping up in quotes that aren't from me?

I had a 10" tablet before the hudl 2 and it was easy to get used to the smaller size

To update this thread I have just taken receipt of a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014). This is a huge hike from my initial budget but the notation facility could be very helpful for me (RSI and arthritis).

It arrived a few hours ago but I have a query and would welcome feedback from anyone with a similar product:

I plugged it in to charge it (the device is switched off) and the charging icon stayed on the screen for about 15 seconds then faded away. To check that this was normal I read some android forums and also Samsung technical support, and I was told this is definitely not normal and the charging icon should stay on the screen all the time. In other words, they told me I have a faulty product. However, since I have other Samsung mobile devices in the house I have just plugged them all in to charge and they do exactly the same thing as my new tablet - the charging icon comes onto the screen and then fades away, then to check the progress all you do is lightly touched the power button. So it seems like my new tablet is normal? Just seems odd that knowledgeable people are telling me otherwise.

Hi, Yes I would say this is normal, I have the Lenovo tab 10 inch and it does the same so dont panic and enjoy your tablet

I've always had Samsung Galaxy phones for years and they do the same... you plug them in, they start charging and then the screen fades off until you touch it again.
Do you have a red LED light stay on while your device charges?
Usually they change from red to green once the device is fully charged.

Phew, thank you Graham. I panicked a bit when the seller's technical department told me it was faulty and that I needed to send it back - and that I was legally obliged to do so within 28 days of suspecting a fault!

There is no LED on my tablet Chris (or on any of my Galaxy phones). I just lightly touch the power button and the charging icon displays for a few seconds showing me how far along the charge has got.

It sounds to me like it is fine. As long as the charger icon comes up when you touch the power button.
Only way to find out is let it have about 16 hour charge. Then switch it on tomorrow and see if it works. If it does, happy days :-)

Switch it on and you'll be able to see the charging status.

I'm too scared to turn it on fully - I've never handled a tablet before :ROFLMAO:

..... I have a feeling it might start prompting me to upgrade to 4.2.2 and all of the bizarre battery issues which apparently go with it - I may forgo this particular upgrade!

!

leaving aside the massive opportunity for smutty remarks... isn't that going to make using it a bit difficult ;)

Its fairly simple - press the button, if anyithing bad happens turn it off again ;)

I would have expected it to already have 4.2.2 installed or even 4.4.4.

You're right, I think it has 4.3 in it from the factory, so 4.4 would be the upgrade - which apparently brings some speed benefits but some people are reporting battery drain in their Notes (hopefully that was a temporary problem with the 4.4.2 version of kitkat).

Another vote for the hudl2. Daughter bought one this morning. Very slick and responsive. Screen very good for a budget tablet. Took 10 mins to help her remove the Tesco and Blinkbox bloatware and now is essentially stock Android.

Yeah they are excellent.... Had mine A while now and no complaints (apart from stupid full volume jingle when you turn it on) so did you root it

No need to root it. The worst bit of all the Tesco extra stuff is the "T" on the main home screen which if accidentally swiped takes you into pages and pages of Tesco branded services. To completely replace this, download the default "Google Now" launcher. The "T" is replaced by a "G" and this takes you onto a customizable "personal assistant" page with familiar Google search, calendar, Gmail, maps, etc. (Google Now is the standard default interface on many Android products).

All the Tesco and Blinkbox shortcuts on the main page can be simply dragged to the delete icon. The unwanted preinstalled apps themselves can be removed (well actually disabled technically) from the App Tray - for each one go to App Info and then click Disable. (They are not actually deleted but are essentially hidden from the operating system and the user).

Haven't tried to delete the jingle - not noticed it to be too annoying, and no request as yet from Daughter to eradicate it - unlike all the Tesco stuff that did annoy her.

Well, I am now starting to look at apps. As somebody with a bad RSI (meaning I can't type) the Swype keyboard is a lifesaver, not only is it amazingly intuitive as a keyboard, the Dragon-based voice recognition facility is excellent - it's pretty good at filtering out extraneous noise as well. It was 59p.

It 'jingles' when turned on and late at night if I am in bed after my wife and she is asleep I have to make sure I switch it on somewhere else in the house so not to wake her. But turning it on anywhere with a full volume stupid jingle is irritating
