Don't know how interested people are in video but I was intrigued to see that quite a lot of this was apparently shot on a GF1.

Not sure how he is getting such long recording times with it though. Also my brief experiment with shooting video in low light was very noisy, his looks great.

Andy, great cars!

I used to do my own servicing and bodywork repairs and I'd love to build a car but a bad back and a short temper work against me!

My first car was a Mini 1000 as was my first new car, a russet brown one that I later got a vinyl roof and a sun roof for after seeing lots like that in Holland. Happy days.

Great pictures everyone! :)

Errr, does the word 'timelapse' not give the game a way? It's not video, it's a series of still images strung together. Many DSLR's are capable of being set to take shots with a set gap between them for this very purpose.

I realised that after I posted actually.

I am new to all this stuff and a bit thick.

Can you do this on the GF1 though or do you need some kind of controller to set it off at timed intervals? Can't remember seeing it in the GF1 options.

I've no idea, it's not something I've seen nor looked for, but if the bloke in the video is using one then I suspect that it would be available.

One of these would do the trick - EBAYLINKY ;)

Deviating once again but how are you guy's setting your ISO? I usually stay at 100 but thought on a nice sunny day to pop it up over 400 (Gasp! shock! Horror!) Would i get away with clean shots at a nice fast shutter speed and something like f8?

Yup. I've been letting my ISO creep up to the dizzy heights of 400 too. I think that if you're looking at a whole image 400 is perfectly fine.

Would you need f8 though? I have mine on f4 and widen for less dof or in lower light. f4 seems to give a lot of dof.

Well the sweet spot (sharpest IQ) for the 20mm f1.7 is from f4 - f8 so i guess f4 would be good to try. The sun is shinig today so i may go and experiment.

I have mine set on Max 400 - so it will use anything from 100-400 and they have been perfectly acceptable.

The Noodle shot on the previous page was taken at 800.

I think 1600 and over would be for emergencies only.

I concur. ISO 100 and all is well. ISO 400 when it's gloomy. Above that and you're going to need some serious NoiseNinja work. Having said that 1600 is still usable if you have a bold image, though the pixel peepers will be casting aspersions.

The pixel peepers can stick it up their arse

Even 1600 and above would be fine printed at A4 or displayed on Flickr etc

Any one find silkypix to display RAW files full of noise ?. I just find it shows RAW file full
of it, even at low ISO. When I load RAW files up in other software they are fine.

Yep, to me they look awful so i just use LR now instead.

I have seen many threads slating Silkypix for the noise issue. Lightroom is perfect!!

Gimp is free but you will need to download the Raw editor which is ok but not brilliant.

Panasonic offering £50 cashback - 1st February to April 2010

Details here

Damn - I have missed this by 3 days :bang::bang::bang:

Yeah I am a bit annoyed, but I got the three year warranty instead which ran out on the 1st feb, so it's not too bad. Mathers site suggests you can have both but I think that's wrong.

I really like LR btw.

Rawtherapee is free and opens GF1 RAW files.

I shoot at ISO 400 as a matter of course unless I'm getting shutter speeds over 1/500 in which case I'll bump it down a bit.

I think i'll start to do mine manually from now on and try to think about the settings before i shoot anything.

BTW what's the difference between ISO Auto and iISO?

Slightly changing topic - I have just posted in the 'Wanted' section, I am after a 45-200mm OIS zoom.

Going to Eurodisney in a couple of weeks and I want to make sure I have a decent focal range covered (I think 90mm might be a bit short).

If anyone has one they don't use, or want to sell on, please reply in the Wanted section here.

A man must never RTM. It's much better to spend hours experimenting to find out.

PS. Or ask people on an internet forum...

TBH, I have read the manual, or at least searched through it to try and find out how to stop video file numbering reverting to zero every time. I still don;t know. :bang:

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you...

The one, the only...

The Great Manwell... MANWELL!!!

ok, it's not the only version but apparently its better than the one that ships with it

I've got an Op/tech wrist strap on mine, but I get the feeling it wouldn't be to your taste (probably the inelegant one you refer to), an alternative would be the skin you can buy to stick on the camera body, it comes in a variety of textures, including a Leica-like one

I'm not convinced it works on a GF-1 though....

Mine turned up today, quality is not too bad and rather than a nobbly leatherette its more like a rubbery material, grip is really really good, its not as easy to fit as he makes it look in his video but it wasnt too bad tbh.

I ended up putting the whole skin on as it looked better than I thought it would, in short... I like it :)
