Its that time of year again. At the end of the month is photokina.

Anyone hoping for anything specific to be announced?

Do you think we'll see a full frame mirrorless from canikon to compete with Sony?

If so do you think they've missed the boat?
 
Hoping to see something about the OM-D EM-1 mk II, some new Olympus f1.2 primes and at least some early details of the Panasonic GH5 :).

D750 replacement, and new software from Nikon that allows AF fine tune at both ends of a zoom lens (pipe dream the latter I think ;))
 
My interests are Sony A7 and MFT.

I'd like to see the much rumored Sony A9 and a cheap compact 35mm f1.8 :D and from Panasonic I'd like to see more shutter shock free cameras specifically shutter shock free GX7 and G7 replacements with auto ISO and exposure compensation and full time dof preview in all modes and an end to the use of field sequential evf's. I'd like to see any GX7 replacement retain the tilting evf too.

I think that in reality I've got next to no chance of seeing any of these things or any Canikon A7 rival.
 
The Ricoh roadmap for Pentax 645 lenses shows a new standard zoom and tele-zoom. They were on the 2015 roadmap and again on the 2016 version....it's be nice if something appeared to re-affirm their committment to their medium format system.

I wonder if we'll ever see a full frame or medium format GR?
 
I'd love to see an updated Canon 6d or a full frame mirrorless Canon, or even some news, but I think I can dream on.
 
With the developments in adapters maybe a CaniKon mirrorless isn't needed as all you'll need is an adapter for an A7... They exist now and will very probably get better.
 
I know its not the preserve of the pros, but I am looking forward to the upgrade to the Panasonic FZ1000; It appears a sterling camera, so if they can bring something exciting in line with the current Sony RX series, it will be very tempting!

If they worked better I'd be tempted. I've wasted a reasonable amount of time trying to convince myself but it looks like a costly, frustrating way to go at the moment.

There seem to be reports ranging from pretty naff to good enough for all but action shots but this is early days and it's possible that things could improve quickly.
 
There's an EOS M5 rumoured from Canon (no idead why M4 is being skipped). Latest rumour is that it will have an inbuilt EVF, improved AF and an 80D sensor. Don't get your hopes up though...

I don't expect a full frame mirrorless from Canon any time soon. Their mirrorless philosophy has always been to minimise size and I'm not sure how concerned they are about trying to compete with Sony. Their main rival has always been (and still is) Nikon (the EOS M line was developed in answer to Nikon's J1 rather than other mirrorless models for example). Now if Nikon were to pull something out of the hat...

Canon just showed a prototype of a CMOS sensor with an all-electonic global shutter https://www.dpreview.com/news/49570...utter-cmos-sensor-with-improved-dynamic-range. I don't think we'll see it any time very soon, but it is the Holy Grail for both manufacturers and photographers - a sold-state camera, with no mechanical shutter, no moving parts, no vibration, silent, no rolling/scanning shutter issues, no flash x-sync limitations. Should be cheaper and more reliable, too. One day :)

Edit: hold on a minute, it's already here! Looks like Canon's new flagship pro video camera has the global shutter option in the C700 PL-GS. GS sensor is 'Super-35mm' format, actually 25x19mm approx or roughly APS-C kinda size. Stand by for the price - C700 camera is $35,000 and the GS version $38,000, so a £3k premium just for the GS sensor.

Looking at Photokina and IFA:

As has been said, global shutters appearing on CMOS.

Increases in dynamic range and support for at least one of the new HDR formats standardised in ITU-R BT.500.

High dynamic range and wider colour gamut OLED and quantum dot screens have all appeared at IFA.

Canon also have a high ISO camera they're showing around.

In the peripherals, wider colour gamut quantum dot PC displays and I wouldn't put money against cloud services diversifying into large scale processing. The big innovators at IBC recently have been those who can process or use big data style processing to manage large collections.

Shame I'm missing Photokina this time.

It's good for seeing cutting edge, just released tech. It's bad for buying (unless you're there with a big budget purchaser).

I think the new sensor looks good, but I'm not sure it will survive at that price point against an ARRI Alexa or fully specced RED.

It used to be trade-only many years ago, but not now. It's still the premier photo show, but not for buying kit. It's absolutely massive and fills the dozen or so Cologne halls, though most of the big consumer brands are in just the first three. Well worth a visit.

There been rumours of an eos m5 and an 18-150mm
 
I'd love for Leica to release a digital CL like camera to compete with the x100 etc and at a sub £2k market price. Full frame or aps-c with 35mm equivalent fixed would be a gem! Wishful thinking though if I'm honest.

Hoping for some good stuff from Sony, if only to push the price down on their current range! haha.
 
How about a Nikon camera that can perform AF fine tune/micro adjustment at both ends of a zoom like Canon, been extremely slow to catch up.
 
Panasonic are launching some new ones, looking forward to seeing there. Ridge range - hopefully the rumors are not to be believed!
