Photo52 2012 : Join In !!! : Week 52 Busy

I have been ruminating on this for a bit.
Technically I am not sure what I have learned. I bought a new flash and tried some off camera work and I am trying to get to grips with Lightroom.. I think that I have learned a bit more about composition and trying to think creatively and imaginatively with some originality thrown in.

The real bonus is that the Challenge makes me think each week of getting out the camera and doing something. I like the idea of a new theme every week. IIn comps I seem to see the same images coming thro – presumably on the basis that if it is a winning shot it should be entered all over the place. The 52 demands more of us because of the constant roll out of ideas. I don’t always succeed in getting a good image and I have produced some indifferent stuff but I have enjoyed it – which I think is the point.

Sometimes I get inspiration for the themes immediately, sometimes it takes longer. Sometimes I carry out my first idea only to decide that it isn’t very good anyway and then back to the drawing board. Often the theme comes through in a phrase (but I am having difficulty with ‘Spread your wings for New Orleans Kentucky bluebird’,!!!:D) My main problem has been falling behind because of prevarication.

I appreciate others taking the trouble to comment. After 40 odd themes, I am quite prepared for adverse comments because throughout the year there has been much supportive comment made on all of the 52s threads and thus I feel that any adverse comment would be well meant. The feeling of a community is good, although I realise that many of you know or have met others, and this applies not just to the photos but to events in other’s lives e.g. illness, impending parenthood.

Commenting on other’s threads is time consuming but I think that has to be part of the deal. Recently I looked and commented on 12 threads and it took me nearly 2 hours :((I know my typing is carp, but that is only part of it). One has to see, think, consider, type and try to choose words and phrases other than’ good shot’. It was very manic early in the year and even now I comment on 19 live threads (2 of whom have not posted lately). Sometimes, and its only a small point in the whole scheme, I am disappointed that I get few people dropping by. E.g. of the 17 more live threads on which I comment, only 13 of those 52’ers have commented on any of mine since week 30 and of those, only 4 have commented on all and only 2 have commented on more than 6 of those 12 themes. It’s nice to get comments, however brief and I do appreciate the time that it takes, partic those of you with family and other commitments. But that really is minor. I do feel that I am part of a good group and everyone on whose work I comment does say thanks – good manners all round in the 52’ers!

I think that I will be in for next year because Saturday morning would not be the same. My wife always asks me what is the theme and is quick with suggestions and has even taken part as a prop! So good family entertainment.

'ello, it is quite easy to forget and I think I'm fully up-to-date, as usual, if not I'd be OK for people to let me know.

If someone misses you, either PM them and mention in post asking everyone to nip by your thread and have a gander

Cheers all.

PS, this is my (and Michael's and Lynne's) 97th week taking into account last year's TP52...and I'm doing it next year....gasp!

Had a bit of a catch up tonight but that took about 2 hours and I know I have more to get round to tomorrow night!

As for next year I keep thinking about it but havent made a final decision yet, it has been great taking part this year and I've learnt lots about lighting especially with table top photography - something I've not done before but have really enjoyed doing. some weeks I feel that I've posted something for the sake of it and not been pleased with it but life gets in the way sometimes and tests us! I have become alot more critical of my own photos but still find it difficult to be critical of other peoples work (I hate to offend someone).

It gets you out of bed on a Saturday and gets the old brain cells working which is good and I've made some good friends through the challenge as well!

I seem to be talking myself into another year:lol: but decide nearer the end of the year!!:):)

Hi Alan
I'm really sorry - I'm probably one of the guilty parties. I'm finding it really difficult to keep up with the C&C. Promise to try harder over the next few weeks.

Now dreading the news of this weeks theme. I thought together was going to be an easy one - but it wasn't...

No worries Mike. As and when you can is fine with me. I have again started to fall behind. I took a shot for Spread in the weekend announced but have my usual doubts about it - maybe better post cos something else today leaves me 3 weeks behind.

Pack...got my idea.

One thing I've done in the past when I'm strapped or time is just photograph the first theme that comes into my head, upload it and then you can relax for the week.

That way you don't get too frazzled....and don't forget....it is supposed to be fun...

(If you could see me now, I'm giving you all a virtual pat on the back for still being here !)

Cheers all.

Looks like I will be posting double! Not sure what's happened this week :shake:. I will get round to your threads at some point.

I know this feeling!

Just posted Together, hoping to get Pack tomorrow at Woburn! Then onto a catch up!

Good to see that you're all still hanging in there - not long to go now

BTW the bag of themes is starting to run a little low, so I'll be starting a thread in the next few weeks to ask for suggestions for themes for 2013.
Get your thinking caps on if you want to play again next year and/or have an idea for a theme to torture next year's participants with :D

look forward to the thread Sarah....would it be better for everyone to pm their idea though ? Just so we don't get a head start :)

Is anybody else feeling a bit of pressure now that the end is in sight? Not pressure to finish (I think everyone still in the game at this point will finish) but I feel like I should step it up a notch, make the last 6 weeks count.

No pressure....because it won't be the end for me...I'll be carrying on for my 3rd year :D

I am really struggling for ideas for pack and art, I just can't think what to do, I just can't concentrate and it is really frustrating :bang: I will catch up though, I will also finish on time, I won't let myself be late  Hopefully the remainder of themes are going to be much better than pack!

I've found that frustration can really block creativity. My advice, keep it simple.

Cheers.

I'm just totally stretched for time right now which is rather boring if you moan about it enough! Today I finished work four hours early so I cleaned my house from top to bottom so I can do guilt free togging on my day off on Thursday!!! But I know something will scupper my plans!

Nat I'm also thinking 'if I can't do something remotely decent, don't do anything at all!' So I have pack still to do and feeling a little pressured to try something new!

I still have threads need visiting too :bonk:

I've got my pack up loaded today (scary SP), then (thanks to DK) realised I hadn't put together on the spreadsheet only to find it had not saved last time when I put the two previous themes on :bonk: If anyone should look I have put ticks on the spreadsheet for me up until pack, please feel free to add them if they've vanished again.

Cheers.

Good morning :)

I've got two shots here waiting to post, but have decided not to until I've caught up with commenting. I managed two last night in the space of an hour, so it may take a while :(
