Photo52 2012 : Join In !!! : Week 52 Busy

Well once it gets dark im outside to do my entrance.

If i post it will bring back memories for those that went on the last 52 meet....if it doesn't sorry for wasting your time...;)

Really? Apart from the blatantly obvious I've got no ideas! I found a picture from Windsor castle last weekend and have used that! Is that cheating?

I think you know the answer to that question ;)

Marsha...ignore Andy :p we all have weeks ( I've had about 12 so far ! ) where we need to improvise....I think you just had a vision of what this weeks theme would be

Well I did take my camera that day for my 52 shot, it was just not that week!

I'm just too busy at work right now to do much! Oh and a certain drawing app being rather addictive!!! But hopefully once I'm examined tomorrow I'll have more time to catch up on everyone's threads!

I too am going to bow out of this. I have a back problem which has gotten much worse in the last two months and as such that I am not getting many opportunities to pick up the camera.
I can count the number of times I have left the house in the last 8 weeks on the fingers of one hand so the pressure of getting a weekly theme done is too much.
Even before this though I was struggling to comment on peoples threads as there were so many really good shots and I wanted to try and leave meaningful comments rather than 'nice pic'.

I wish everyone that is still doing this the very best. Who knows, if things improve in the future I might be back!

Sorry to hear that you are having to leave Phil and Richard but I understand why!!

Pop in from time to time and you never know you might decide to come back in later after a break!

Thanks for all your comments and I'll keep an eye out for your posts on other parts of the forum!!:):)

Just to say guys I am still doing the 52 I've just been really busy with work and family life plus a few other bits and bobs.

I hope to be upto date this weekend

Matt

Hi, all and mahhoossive well done for still being here

I'm sensing a few of you are getting a bit :shake:....it was never going to be easy and most people don't finish.

Stick with it....miss a few weeks if you need and come back.

BUT, do stick with it because on week 52 you'll be going :woot:  :woot:  :woot:  :woot:  :woot:

And it will be richly deserved.

Cheers all.

27 percent of the way through already! I have to say I'm loving this; I can't wait for the next theme the minute I finish one, and I'm even beginning to worry about what I'll do when it's all over. I imagine a second year is harder, but don't know?

My "prize", presented to me by me, will be a photo book containg all my 52 shots. It'd be a real shame to have only 51 pictures in it, so I'm determined not to miss a week anywhere!

Is it Saturday yet?!

Snap! I've fallen behind with everyone else's threads! I'm hoping for lots of sleep tonight and also playing catch up over the weekend!

Following a discussion within Manc Mans (Darrens) thread, I posted a suggestion in the thread re C&C on our photographs for the weekly theme. Some have said that they would like open and honest critique on their photographs as they feel that others may be holding back a little for fear of perhaps upsetting those critique is given to.
My suggestion was that, now we know each other a little better after 14weeks that we could now give more in depth critique without fear of upset. This is not a request to be rude or any other negative behaviour of course and it wouldn't be expected of the good peeps we have doing the 52.
Its just that I have read a few times now of some being a little unsure on their images, and whether they are progressing or not because others may be holding back or being too 'nice'.
If people were to acknowledge within their posts that they expect 'brutal' honesty, then no offence should be taken if the critique is delivered in what would be seen within the bounds of good conduct. Just a suggestion and of course I welcome your views on the above. Iain

I tend to agree that we could be more reflective on our comments, I know I have erred on the side of caution & kept to fluffy comments only!

Highly patronizing I know, but I like the current trend to say "what went well" and "even better if" to balance constructive critique? Feel free to add + and - comments to my postings!

Thanks Mandy

:agree:

I like criticism without being too harsh!

Many apologies if I've not visited your thread this week (or ever) just too busy and tired this week! I've nearly dropped my phone a few times mid post!!!

Now PLEASE let's have an EASY theme! Entrance just left me a little flat!

y'all seem able to give mine -ve fb easily enough

seriously tho - I just don't put any comment at all on the ones I don't like. This is a metter of taste and not a feedback issue. I find it hard to be objective if I just don't like it (folk forget that the shot still has to be pleasing to the eye, some would never make it into an album)

I have given constructive feedback before but I don't think it was appreciated.

maybe we should add it to our signatures whether we welcome -ve feedback as well as +ve?

the feedback must be constructive tho' as we are doing this to improve - aren't we?

EDIT: ok I changed my signature. I seem to remember though that your signature is only visible once per thread, so we have to be careful about checking them - let me know if that's correct :)

EDIT EDIT: I've also added it to my thread title :P

If you are not prepared to receive honest but polite negative feedback then you shouldn't be doing the challenge publicly IMO. I haven't seen anyone on the challenge being 'precious' about their photos but there is nothing wrong with responding with information as to why you did it that way or couldn't avoid 'xyz' ... that's the way to learn
"Brutal"? - Never necesary!

When I put C & C ( which I take to mean Constructive Criticism & Comments) I really mean it, I can take anything in life on the chin and personally don't get defensive or sensitive. I genuinely value any feed back +VE or -VE and try and learn from it. I think my work has improved and it has also got me used to using my newish camera. From someone that learned photography at art college in the early 80s, for me digital photography and post processing are a quantum leap and not an easy transition.

I always try to give polite and honest feedback but I have to say in my opinion the standard of everybody's work is really good.

In addition, both art and photography is very 'subjective' and there is not really a one size fits all answer - who ever said this game is easy !

I don't think an image has to be pleasing to be good; what's wrong with thought provoking? Photo journalism wouldn't exist if images all had to be album material.

I also don't think you have to like an image to comment. You can still say whether you think it interprets the theme well, what you think of it technically, and even why you don't like it.

I hope I've not upset anyone so far, but have already been trying to be honest. There is not one shot I've said I like that I don't, and if I see something I'd prefer to be different, I say so. I try not to be rude or harsh, just honest and constructive.

Yes please: honest comments only on mine.

The only thing that's worrying me now is; how many of the comments I've had so far have been "kind"? I'd assumed they were all honest :(

this is the part I struggle with - what if technically it's good, and it fits the theme? In which case we're down to personal opinion, which I don't think I can apply to someone's entry as I can't see how it would help the photographer to improve.

I still think a shot has to be pleasing to the eye, even photo journalists' shots are well taken. Perhaps I'm not explaining it right. I could give a good example but that wouldn't be fair on the photographer, I wouldn't want to upset anyone

oh dear this is such a minefield (for me).

"I think you're bang on theme with that one, and technically I can't fault it, but somehow it's not doing anything for me I'm afraid". Then, if you can; "I find it a bit.......", or "I tend to prefer........".

It'll help you too if you try to work out why a shot isn't working for you.

It helps the photographer because he has confirmation he's doing OK technically, and gets to understand a bit more about how people perceive his developing style :)
