well i think you hit the nail on the head with the light:thumbs: it gives it lift and the detail is very great shot

Anyway, my offering; this was taken in my back garden (with the unwanted assistance of my terrier). Your challenge is to work out what is hidden :lol:

This was taken at the bottom of my back garden that has a 2metre fence all around (to retain the Jack Russel!)

If I say I had my back to the house, does that help?

It's a mirror hidden in the undergrowth to make the planting look thicker. You can see a reflection of the house which is behind me...

Convoluted but I'm told women are so...

 I was going to say a mirror (especially after your last hint), but then I thought you and other's would think I was daft saying that

And I was thinking why would anyone put a mirror in their garden ... but now that you explain the reasoning behind it ..... it makes sense.

Well done, you had us all guessing.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Tina must admit I didn't guess the "hidden" mirror. :(

Overall I like the second shot. Lovely colours, composition, great DOF. I like the curve of the red/green shrub on the right.

Thanks Patrick.

I prefer the second shot but thought it too obvious, however, in keeping with the project I have learnt that is not the case ;)

I wondered what was broken...the list was so long I decided to simplify it. the boys and I went to Heswall and walked from the local boatyard along the beach to Thurstaston and back along the Wirral Way.

I found this, it seemed broken

Others I took are on my Flikr

Hiya Tina,

Darn it girl ... you are on the ball .... or should that be the boat for this week's theme

I love that shot .... well spotted. You have captured some nice detail and colours there.

The composition, for me, is spot on because I could look at the photo and see what it was without having to first read. Did you do any post processing to this or is it straight from camera?

Well done

Cheers

PPfft, plenty of life in that boat...:)

The motor (?) looks a bit central, for me. I wonder if you could have take the photograph from one end viewing over the motor?

I quite like the muted colours.

Plenty of opportunites there.

Cheers and nce one for being ahead of the game.

I'm sorry Tina, but that's not broken, it just needs a lick of paint :)

I'm not sure about the engine (or what's left of it) being central in the shot as all the boat suits the theme and the central engine is stealling the show.
There is plenty of interest in the shot though. I also wonder if there were any close up and abstract shots to be had?

The family and I were at the Caravan Club Site in Thurstaston last weekend and enjoyed some time on the beach and at the Country Park. About half way between the country park and the marina at Thurstaston, there is two other broken things stuck in the sand; one is an old rusting engine and the other is an old rusting oil tanker/ drum. If I get around to it I'll post some snaps on my flickr of them.

Hi Tina, I really like this one. The detail along with the colours and contrast really work well with the boat. The object in the middle is a little central but thats only minor as it's a nice shot.

Thanks fellas

I think I have a brain that is capable of seeing thirds in others images and often when I compose my own but then other times the knowledge leaves me and this is the result!

I will be going back again, I hope, with better skies as the location has plenty of potential.

Good shot Tina, I don't have a problem with the central engine. Think it would also look good as a high contrast B&W

The B&W is really good Tina. And I think the crop has worked too. Excellent pp.

Hiya Tina,

Just popping past to comment on the b&w post..... which I think also suits the image, but have to say I still prefer the original (reason being is I like the colours and how the litchen and fading wood and paint all add to the broken feel).

Well done though on your b&w processing

Cheers

Great shot Tina! I prefer the Black and White image!

I love old boatyards for pics!

Hi Tina,

I'm going to go against the grain and say I prefer the colour one. Reason being the b&w to me looks a bit flat, it may have worked as a composition to pull a lot more detail of the decay out. Engine position doesn't bother me either, but would have prefered it if the gunwales (thats the side bit) framed the shot and you didn't have the underexposed grass in the bottom left hand corner.

Thanks Caleb. I've always wondered what the gunwales are ;)

I also rather like the colour as there is such a variety of tones within the colour and such gentle colours.
