Can anyone recommend a good site that will print out and send you a hard cover photo album for a reasonable price ........... ?

Thanks

Tic Tac Pro will do you a 60 page for under £100. That includes foil block, metal corners etc- lose them and the price comes down

Depending on the quality you want, Photobox are pretty good. I've used them a lot and they always deliver quickly and are good quality (but not "professional" quality IYSWIM). The layouts, etc, are all flexible too.

Asukabook are good. I use them for weddings and the quality is nice but you have to give proof that you do it for work. They aren't as cheap as the cheapo ones but they are very high quality.

Thanks all ......... will have a look .........cheers

I'm doing one with Artscow. A hardback 6x6 book is costing $3.99 delivered (they emailed an offer). I guess you get what you pay for, so for just over £2 I will wait and see!!

have found ubyu on the net recently, really want to give them a go - have got their sourcebook, any else bought photobooks from these?

I'm waiting for a book from them. They have had a few problems getting it to me and it's about 3 weeks late. It should be delivered tomorrow. Apparently their machine broke and then there were printing problems. In compensation I'm meant to now be getting 2 books. I will let you know what it's like when it turns up.

Right,

Finally got the Photobook from Ubyu today (I ordered them on 16th Jan  )

First impressions is i'm not particuarly happy. They were delayed on 3 different occasions. twice due to Binding machine problems and once not meeting their 'high standards' of quality control. To suppliment this they offerend me a second book free of charge.

Well I wonder how high their quality control standards are because on one book there is imperfections on the binding that show out like a sore thumb. Also on the last page of one of the books the page is rippled like paper does when it gets too wet.

I'll try and post images later so you can see what i mean.

Cheers

Simon

That doesn't look good at all Simon. No way that can go to the client IMHO. Have you contacted Ubyu?

As far as the OP goes I use Loxley and am very happy with them.

I have contacted them but it wasn't till i'd got photos to send them which was not till about 6pm lastnight so I doubt I get a responce till monday now

Well the saga is slowly coming to an end. Finally after having 4 re-prints that the quality was very low they have refunded me and are printing me another copy.

Nearly everytime they went on a print run their binding machine was broken and they had to do it again or there was some other reason why it took almost 2-3 weeks for the copies to arrive.

This has been going on since the middle of January!

I've used Blurb on several occasions now and I'm very pleased with them. You don't say what it's for though? I'm not sure I'd use Blurb for wedding professionals but for most other things I'd recommend them

Ignore this, sorry, just seen the date of the OP, sorry Simon

It wasn't Blurb it was UBYU. Its wasn't ever going to be a full proffesional album it was a low budget wedding book for the wifes cousin but the quality was shocking.

No problem, I didn't want to slate them as the person I was dealing with (Sam) was helpful, but they consistently said they had 'high standards of quality control'. I just cannot imagine what they would class as bad quality!!!

I know, I was replying to the OP before I realised the post had moved on

Hi Simon

I work at ubyu - I wanted to make contact with you personally to address the issues you’ve had with us.

First let me thank you for your patience. Yes, we’re in beta, but having taken the time to read your correspondence with us, I would have felt extremely frustrated indeed had I experienced what you experienced in trying to get a great quality book for your client from us. Having to apologise to your client on numerous occasions must have been very embarrassing – especially as the book was no doubt intended as a chronicle of their special day for which I’m certain they were paying very good money. For this I sincerely apologise.

I think I owe you some further explanation:

Your first book was bound by our previous binding partner, who we felt did not meet our standards. We moved to a better partnership for your next book but in this case the printed a book came back to us with slight scratches to the leading pages. Another unfortunate challenge which, of course is not your fault. But I want you to have all the facts.

It was never my intention that you would experience these growing pains which is why we did everything we could to try and make good. I accept that those attempts may not have been good enough.

Let me assure you of this: we’re going to do better. We’re a little company. But little doesn’t have to be shorthand for bad service. Actually it’s being small that we think gives us a competitive advantage.

What we want you to experience with us is not just a better quality of book, and exceptional finishes you can’t get elsewhere, but a different kind of experience in dealing with us.

Needless to say your experience was poor. I know that issuing reprints and refunds have likely gone some way to restoring some faith in us, but not entirely.

So I’d like to make a suggestion, if you’re agreeable? Could you send us your next project and we will print it free of charge. I’m going to personally handle this to make sure that you are as happy as you can possibly be.

If you wish to get in contact, please do PM me via my profile.

Sincerely

Hello Dean,

Thank you for your reply it is really appreciated and has given me some confidence back in your company.

I do not doubt you want the best quality to be sent out to your clients and on at least 2 occasions you informed me that you needed to re-print due to poor quality, which led me to believe you thoroughly check the books that go out. Unfortunately some that you sent me must have slipped through the net.

I will say I was very impressed with your software and the whole designing and purchase of the book was very good and easy in my mind and I was very impressed.

I just felt let down with the final quality of the received product. I just didn't understand how a books could be sent out with (in my case) rippled pages, or glue over the inside and outside covers. To me they were obvious defects that should have been picked up easily.

I agree that being a small company can possibly give a competitive advantage, but should not be at the cost of supplying a quality product.

I hate sounding like a whining Victor Meldrew but I hope you understand why I have lost a lot of confidence.

I will discuss your generous offer via PM.

I do appreciate you spending the time to respond to this thread.

Thanks

Simon
