Hi all!

I last completed the '52 in 2010! Here are the images I took back then: https://www.philhackettphotography.com/201052

I'll be commenting on a selection of images every week once I've posted my own! The point of me doing the '52 is to encourage me to do more photography for pleasure (not just weddings) so I'm looking forward to getting stuck in!

Week 1: Lines and Angles
Week 2: Rust and Decay
Week 3: Windows and Doors
Week 4: Something Broken
Week 5: Rainy Day
Week 6: Looking Through
Week 7: Reflections in Water
Week 8: Vintage Objects
Week 9: Time
Week 10: Inspired by a Song
Week 11: The Colour Red
Week 12: Daily Life
Week 13: The Night Sky

Week 1: Lines and Angles - higher res version here: https://www.philhackettphotography.com/202652

52mm on the 28-700 f/2 Zoom attached to an R6II. 1/320s, ISO 50, f/2. Processed in Nik Efex.

This was shot yesterday at Hanbury Hall - the unusual angular hedges seemed a great fit for the theme.

This was another contender but I thought it lacked impact. This is a close up of a guitar's fret board and nut - I used the Canon 135mm f/1.8 @ f/10 with a couple of JJC extension tubes. I bounced the flash gun off a reflector behind the subject to make the light more interesting.

Good shots. I like your chosen one the best. Very nice lighting creating the shadow patterns.

Looks like you're a lefty guitarist. Nice inlays on the fretboard.

Many thanks - yes it's a lefty Taylor 818e - fab guitar!

That’s a great picture, really looks like something it isn’t, made me think of the mad hatters tea party for some reason

Cracking bit of topiary there Phil, perfect fit. I like the strings as well, if anything a bit more.

Quite a fascinating image. I first thought a full sized incinerator, then a model, then full sized and finally plumped for a mini-incinerator. Perhaps I'm just being slow this morning.

Anyhow, rusty and decayed! (and I'm talking about the image, not me)

To be fair I quite like the colour and use of shadows :)
Thanks both but it was a really poor shot - I'm happier with the new one!

Week 3- Windows & Doors
Canon R6 II, 85mm f/1.2 DS @ f/1.2, 1/125s ISO 160

For this shot I randomly approached a stranger who was happy to pose next to the door for me - apparently she is called 'Alice'.

I really like the use of light in your Rust & Decay shot.
Did you ad light (maybe a snoot, or something gridded to constrict the spread of light?)
Or did you need to wait for the natural light to fall in that way?

It's really nice to see some more posed people shots in the 52.
She seems a really interesting subject and the colour matching of her hair with the wooden door works really well. I love her expression too. (y)

Many thanks - I was lucky with the light on the lock - it was approaching sunset and I got a pool of light on it - further enhanced by a vignette in post processing.

The light and dark of Alice's jacket nicely compliment the light and dark of the building.

Week 4 - Broken

I went out in town this afternoon with the idea of photographing some of the many street sleepers which arguably demonstrate something broken about our society. I didn't want to catch their faces - just the situation. Then a couple of homeless gents approached me to have their photo taken so decided to go with a triptych - two lonely looking gents facing outwards with a much more positive and optimistic image in the middle.

The two outer images were 135mm @ f/1.8. The inner one was 85mm @ f/1.2. All taken on the Canon R5 II.

Yep that works well.

Is Britain Broken? Yes - but no more than it has been for a long time!

I'm glad you did this as a triptych with the positive image in the centre.
Whilst I'm happy doing street, shooting people, I tend to avoid the homeless as it feels exploitative.
Having teh interaction with the gents in the centre photo completely removes this feel to the image.
:agree:

Thanks all! I appreciate the comments!

Week 5 - Rainy Day

I've just picked up a totally manual Laowa 100mm Macro lens and this is my first shoot with it.

Canon R6II, 1/125s, f/8.0, Godox AD300 flash

Used a baking tray on a stool in the shower - supposed to be a worm's eye view of a puddle on a rainy day.

Very good! Creative to get what you wanted and a nice control of DoF.

Is it the Laowa 100 mm F2.8 2 x macro?

If so, great optical quality as I had one on L mount.

Image is on theme also :)

Many thanks - yes that exact lens - so far, so good!

Thanks Boots!
