Patrick's 52 for 2011 - Week 31 "Wind"

Hiya Patrick,

Wow .... I can take the DG's off now

Now .... this is stunning .... it!

The detail you have caught in the leaves is beautiful, not to mention the blue sky and the shimmer of sunshine.

It feels like am lying under the tree gazing up at the sky and leaves.

The image has a very romantic feel to it

You see, your OH is always right :D .... and glad you have listened your fellower 52'er too :p

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Phew! was getting worried I'd get ejected from the 52 club:help:
Glad you like the new one. :)

I like your divided first post as is....I would nt change anything....

A man of taste and judgement :thankyou: . That makes two of us...

I prefer no 1 too... Still think b and w would suit better though than colour... The dreamy feel to the second one is a bit naff... It's like one of these god awful posters you get with some phrase your meant to ponder over... Some may like but not my cup of tea.

Patrick..i almost mistook your tropical for divided ... my bad... all three themes have been captured wonderfully... love the delicate flowers surviving in the hrsh landscape..

Really like number 2, like the dreamy and romantic feel to it.

Thanks Michael, I don't normally do dreamy and romantic (as my beloved often tells me;)) , but I do like this one for the colour, shapes and contrasting light/dark.

i must be odd then i prefer divided mk1

Thanks Dave, I guess we're both a bit odd then, (see you Friday - starting to panic now...)

Hi Mark, I usually struggle with mono conversions, but you are welcome to have a go - I'd be interested to see the result. Patrick

Hi Kev, I hadn't thought of that, yes it fits the divided theme as well. The flowers pic is one on my favourites that I have done this year - glad you like it.

Hi Patrick,
I must also join your minority of odd. I preferred you first divided shot too. I like that level of saturation in certain circumstances and it works here.

Some divided opinions about your divided Patrick.

#1 hits the divided theme with that clear divide in the trunk, but #2 has the better detail and I think is the better shot, so I guess I'm divided! Nice idea though.

Hi Neil, originally I preferred the first by a long way, but the more natural shot is growing on me. Certainly seems to have "divided" opinions :D

Thanks Martin. I think of my pics as images rather than just photographs - if that makes sense... I'm happy to play with processing even if it moves away from being natural looking.

Poppy seed heads promising glory when they open.

PP: slight adjustments to sharpness, contrast, saturation, WB and exposure and added a border. Taken with my beloved 50mm lens.

Things I like: the colours of the greens, red and purple ; the watercolour look of the poppies; the back light on the seed head.

Things I don't like: composition not quite what I wanted, (but poppies refused to move even when I asked nicely), sky too blown.

I like this Patrick. You have already commented yourself on the blown sky so no need to go there. Thats the only issue for me. I actually like the composition, and as you say, the backlight on the seed head adds something - Good use of dof without the background being too oof. Nice work for Promise

Hiya Patrick,

A lovely photo for Promise. Agree with the points you have already identified, however I do like the way you have the focus on the poppy bud and the colours are gorgeous.

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Cheers Dawn. I really like this time of year for the flower colours.

The back lighting is good and aids the detail.
Thanks Neil. I will secretly admit the backlighting was an accident
I agree with all that has been said.

Where are the poppies? Anywhere near you? Take in better sky conditions? I like the composition but the blown sky really kills it for me :(

Pic was taken in our front garden. Strangely I don't mind the blown sky that much, but I can see it would be better with a bit of blue. I might try a re-shoot at sunset.

Many thanks for all comments. Patrick

Hi mate. Great shot for promise... I dont mind the blown sky... I actually think it adds a bit of hope and future to the image... almost leading to the progression of the promise!

Great work

Mark

I'd agree about the blown sky. It seems to assist the poppies, they merge and I like it.

Think I'd like to see the purple flowers out of there (cloned, of course...;)).

For me, it's the hairs on the main poppy that makes it.

Cheers.

Thanks Mark and Andy, it's amazing how divided opinion can be on the same image. I think I've decided I like the blown sky. The backlighting of the poppy head was an accident, but it's something I will remember and try to use in the future.

Cheers, Patrick

Looking round the garden for something twisted I spotted this rusty screw sticking out of the fence. Then this little fella wanders into the frame and just sits there.

(I like his shadow which is my homage to the Hollywood portraits of the 1940s :D)

and here's a B+W version (I prefer the colour version)

Patrick, I too prefer the colour version, it has loads of detail and is a nice sharp photo. Definitely on theme for twisted. Well done!

Cheers

Hiya

Apologies, it was a moment of madness, after seeing Kev's photos for hidden and reading the drama about his tripod in the garden, I thought this was fitting ... i.e., Kev had lost a screw which really bugged him  (obviously not funny :coat:)

Anyway I better go and comment on said photos now :exit:

Cheers

Dawn :)

Now Dawn , I'd like you to quietly sit down and take a few deep breaths. You are obviously suffering with Mid-52 Fever and yours is a particularly bad case :cuckoo: People with this condition get a wild staring look in their eyes, irrational giggles and start talking compete nonsense which only makes sense to them. The only cure is long and difficult and involves taking 30 more photos and posting them one week at a time until a sense of relief and calmness return. (actually I'm feeling a bit strange myself... oh, it's ok that's normal for me...:D)

:lol::lol::lol:

Not often I use the word serendipity but fits well here.

Colour for me as well, I like the I like the colours in the what appears to be wet wood.

Reall well caught and it's the shadows that make it for me.

Cheers.

Thanks for the advice Dr Patrick .... not sure there is any cure for me though, I am beyond repair :lol:

OMG I dread to think what I will be like at the end of the 52 .... and what is going to happen to my mind beyond then. I wonder if TP offer post-52 counselling?

I'm already eagerly waiting for week 23 :D

Cheers

Dawn :)

i am especially if only to carry on the mini story you suggested...

Now that has brought a smile and a laugh to me.:naughty:

Patraick, really liking the colour version, great detail and I really like the shadow.
Thanks, my beloved also says she likes the colour one
Also I think I'm going to call myself Patraick from now on - it sounds more mysterious and classy than plain Patrick

Definitely serendipity. What a great word. I think I'll say it again - "seredipity"
Yes, wet wood (not a happy fence)

Hi Ms Dawn, I'm sure counselling can be arranged for a very reasonable fee. Please come into my consulting room and just leave your chequebook on the desk...:whistling:

:cuckoo: ... mid-52 ... Patrick i like that diagnosis for Ms Drodd there...

I think we're all going a bit 52 crazy:cuckoo::D

Dr Patraick

I can leave the chequebook, but can't promise it won't bounce .... would a jar of 1 & 2 pence pieces do? :D

Indeed ... I agree there are more than a few of us going a bit 52 :cuckoo:, some more so than others ..... no names mentioned :p I wonder if it has to do with the themes that we have been getting

Cheers

Dawn

The first image is called "Hidden Power". The ones that follow show the power that is hidden in the first.

Mr P you have excelled yourself here.... i think you have added something to the melting pot of 52s... i was awestruck by the first, the dipped head, mono, the part reflection in the floor captivated me... then the rest...

i think the only thing that distracts me about number 6 is simply that she looks ??? static...the background seems to punctuate her grace.. i am comparing it to number 5 where the swish of the hair adds to movement in my eyes...

overall...EXCELLANT!!

First up I really like the mono and the lighting and focus. Really had a good and willing model there.

Works well for the 'hidden' #1

Although I could not do even a smidgen of what she is doing there, the rest of the pictures don't support the theme too well (in my view).

That said, I really like #4.

#5 isn't the best side of her. Ok shows concentration and brilliance at getting horizontal in the air, just not too flattering on the model (head area)

#3 the colours look a little off? Plus the brighter lighting appears to blow

#2 Is cool and nice dof

#6 really good use of flash, and the black background helps bring her out. Lighting isn't too harsh

As I said, just my view, take with a pinch of salt :D

The first shot is fantastic. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with any of them but the first is really really good. If you had put up a colour version of the first shot I don't think it would be anywhere near as striking, very good conversion and use of vignette. Might also have looked good with more of the reflection included but presumably the reflection dropped off with the light?
Great interpretation of the theme.

You're fone really well on the focusing and they're nice and sharp.

For me, I like the form of #6 especially with the black background.

I also like the symmetry of #5.

Cheers.
