Can anyone please tell me how to set this up. I have plugged the Shutter Release into the Mic socket but nothing happens. :(

What guided you to plug it into the Mic (microphone) socket?

Plus, what does the manual say.......is there actually a wired remote release socket?

I just googled the release for this particular model. I have looked online but nothing seems to instruct on how to set this up?

I found a manual online ....

Apparently it does have a socket ..

It is above the memory card door (just like my Olympus bodies) a small flap conceals/reveals the socket. The mic socket is on the opposite side with the other external connections sockets.

HTH:)

PS I have never had to "setup" a camera to use a wired remote release.....a Panny should be no different.

Sorry nothing there. It only fits the Mic socket?

Odd as the manual clearly mentioned it and shows the location. The mic socket is only for a microphone not the remote release!

PS just looked again and though the link says FZ200 it is the FZ2000 manual displayed

Perhaps the FZ200 does not have a remote socket???

A little strange as when you type the make and model it comes up with the remote I have ordered? o_O

@Barry L.
There's no setup required. You plug it in to the correct socket and it works like the normal shutter release. We now know that you are using the correct socket so let's check you have the correct remote. It's supposed to be the DMW-RSL1 so do you have a genuine one or a copy? If it's a copy does it have four contact rings on the plug?

You've definitely picked the wrong manual. The one from Panasonic's web site clearly shows the mic/remote socket on the left of the camera.

Just copied this from the manual, not sure if any applies to you.

Remote Shutter (optional) (DMC-FZ200)
If you use the remote shutter (DMW-RSL1: optional), you can avoid jitter (camera shake) when
using a tripod and you can keep the shutter pressed fully when taking pictures with Burst Mode.
The remote shutter works similar to the shutter button on the camera.
Note

Always use a genuine Panasonic remote shutter (DMW-RSL1: optional).

You cannot operate the camera with the remote shutter in the following cases.

When the Sleep Mode is canceled

When starting/ending the recording of motion pictures

Record with Creative Video Mode when using for motion picture recording.

The remote shutter cannot be used while the stereo microphone (DMW-MS1: optional) is in use.

Read the operating instructions of the remote shutter for detail

@Barry L.

I am pleased the other TPers have got you on the right track.

I could not, on my phone, download the manual found another 3rd party site but that manual appears to be wrong as no mention of remote release either!

The operation of the remote is easy to check with a multimeter or something similar.

Many people try to use a remote that work with Olympus, but are unsuitable for Panasonic cameras.
Check yours has three rings on the plug end that goes into the camera.

Thanks it only has two but is the recommended remote for this camera

Sorry, but I don't think that will work, they are supposed to be wired tip. ring. ring, sleeve.
The more usual Canon, Pentax, Olympus configuration is tip, ring and sleeve.
If you look at the official Panasonic remote you will see the plug does have the three rings.

I also have a third party wired remote and a genuine Panasonic model too, all with the three rings.

But that one does show it as having the three rings.
Afraid proof is in the pudding, your two ringed version doesn't work.
Best bet is return it and try to get the correct type
Thank you so much for the help. I will return this one and order the correct version (y)

How stupid can you get I had the wrong end plugged into my camera it is the correct remote and now working perfectly. :$

Don't beat yourself up.......we all forget & make 'kick yourself ' silly(?) errors:)

I've never changed the battery in my car remote only to find it still didn't work. The correct one for the car did perfectly when I realised I was trying to use the wrong one...
